Thanks… Now have to make sure I don’t forget them

If you have expenses to cover me would say put out a donation box with a small sign. I would be against requiring a fee when you are trying to introduce the sport.

While $2-$3 is not much, if people see a fee, MOST will just simply dismiss. Why would I pay you money to tell me something about something I have no clue about?

Hopefully you will not have to invest too much in the first place.

Hope my OPINION helps you out.

I estimate the trip will cost me (family included) $150 for the trip. Gas for the car is unfortunately a large portion of the cost. So in comparison I can think of many places to entertain the family for less but, that would not be where we would want to be.

No argument here… just thought the comment was interesting since it makes me wonder what you normally spend on a day of entertainment.

To become a WGA board member I heard that you must take a 30 question test that’s completely encrypted to test your true knowledge.

I guess they think we might drive 3 hours during the night to raid all the caches before the event starts.

I tried a badger and could not tell the difference between it and a skunk.

I’m currently working on the robin and a wood violet on the coin. It probably take me a few days since I have to draw most of it. 🙁

Will the computer at hand have babel and a SD card reader to transefer waypoints?

in reply to: WGA Geocoins #1744407

I’m good at taking pictures, graphics, and other visuals and manipulating them into what I want. I did not draw the deer itself only made a few changes to the ground to fit in the coin and modified the fur on the deer.

Take for instance the compass rose on the one side of the coin. I took that as a regular picture then broke it into 4 major parts: Lines, Base, Main points, Sub Points. By doing this, I was then able to apply different textures and gradients to produce the effect, which you see on the image. Editing that one object took 30-40 min. I spent far more time working this side of the coin for I imagine it in a 3d effect while other side more than likely be a 2d effect.

I only free hand items as a last resort since it very time consuming. If I were to draw a deer freehand, it would probably take me a week to do so. I lack the ability others have in art to be able to draft out a design that I would consider my final work. Therefore, I typically stick to bring things together.

I Spent 10 years in the Navy as a photographer/photojournalist and 5 years as a DOD civilian. I currently create online courses, which has me doing a wide variety of task such as minor programming, graphic work, audio work, video work, and about anything else that needs to be done to get a project completed. (Jack-Of-All-Trades master of none)

In short, I only draw a little as needed.

I’ll look at the wood Violet — just looking no promises.

Good point — Wanted to do something that was state related but not already on another coin. The coat of arms has lots of detail — to much for color probably. The state bird would look like Ohio coin. Don’t even want to think about the state fish. 🙂

I also trying to stay away from the stereo typical Wisconsin image (cow / cheese). Unfortunately seems like this state is not really known for any awesome landmark natural or manmade, that I know of.

Anyhow that’s why getting people to post submission and post ideas might help.

    Thanks for the input.

in reply to: Too many business cards in caches? #1759318

🙂 Well if taking them is ok then make it your personal mission to clear out each cache of its cards. (that is a joke but an option)

Anyhow, while I don’t collect them I have at times sat down and went through the cards to see if anyone has something of interest.

Since I’m relatively new (how long can I use the NEW thing?) I only know what I seen in the logs since I joined. SO I hope I give more of an outside prospective.

1st Thing is as I understand it, I can be very wrong, if someone logs multiple attended it shows up that I attended the event 30 times. What’s the point of that – I look at my numbers as not a race to get to a certain amount but to actually track what I have done. If you look at my states it says I attended one event and hey that’s the truth only one. So when I look at my stats I know they have not been doctored in any way.

I look at this coming picnic as a single event with 1 attended log and if I hunt for any caches at the event I get 0 credit. So, I plan on having lunch, talk to people, once things start to break up I will hunt for only 2-4 temp caches then I will hit 2-4 caches in the local area that do count.

To me just keep it simple, If you don’t like not being able to log the temps then don’t look for them. But for those who don’t care, it gives them something to do with the sport with others with the same interest (the social part) at their leisure.

**this not to be a flame post so if I am wrong about how social events are counted email me directly to let me know — don’t turn this into a she said he said fight.***

Going to hate not being NEW one day. 🙂
