But like Bob said, “…far fetched excuses…”

IMO, “geocaching” is the sport/hobby/etc- geocaching.com is A listing service for geocaches. It, in and by itself is NOT “geocaching”, but a hosting site, just as Navicache, etc are.

SO WHAT! That really has no basis here! Since the WGA was created as a part of gc.com, and the BOD was voted into office under the gc.com, navicache, terracaching, seekers in the woods, plastic under bushes…whatever…none of those mean anything on this site! So, if members of the BOD are seeking hides under a different site, good for them. If they are listing hides, logging finds, walking without logging, good for them. But, it is my belief that they shouldn’t be doing those things and telling me that they are representing me. I am a member of the WGA…I hunt hides listed on gc.com…I attend events listed on the gc.com site…I personally like the BOD members who do the same thing.

I don’t follow your logic. 😕 WGA wasn’t created “as part of gc.com”
They are Not affiliated, not related, not co-owner or anything else. They are completely 100% separate entities. I didn’t see anything about it in the bylaws, or about us pages here on Wi-geo website. I believe this point to be untrue, unless you can show me where you gathered your info/logic? Link please.?

. . and the BOD was voted into office under the gc.com, navicache, terracaching, seekers in the woods, plastic under bushes.. .whatever…none of those mean anything on this site!

What? “under gc.com” ? I don’t understand what you mean here?

Your personal beliefs versus some simple facts: Geocaching is geocaching. Representing cachers in WI by working with the DNR,and other state agencies, etc is their purpose- which is not dependent on gc.com, in any sense.
Representing “cachers” in Wisconsin includes ALL cachers – Not just those who use gc.com. WGA is an association of cachers. Geocaching is seeking out hidden things in the woods, Not a website that lists such hidden things. Issues relevant to geocaching impacts ALL cachers, not just those who use gc.com.

I am a member of the WGA…I hunt hides listed on gc.com & Navicache & terracache, and special hides between Friends listed on other sites. I attend events listed on gc.com & other geocaching related sites.

The work WGA has done has befitted me greatly, regardless of which site lists the caches I seek, or the Caching events I attend.

Well said, I agree and no debate is necessary 😆

The timing is pretty ironic too- just today I witnessed a poster on another forum be called ignorant for posting an opinion on something. Yet, the explanation of why he was ignorant amounted to the other posters opinions on the matter. Then someone made the “this doesn’t need to be discussed here” post, and the topic closed by the OP, or at least the thread derailer who split it into its own topic, then closed it.

We are all free to have and express opinions – to suppress anyone is just wrong. But for me the best part of a forum is to learn from others by discussing things, and getting to see “the other side” of things. Being exposed too/Reading the opposing view should make you think. Discussions can actually lead to people changing their view on a topic, based on what they are presented with in a forum debate. It can happen. It should happen.
That, IMO is what a forum is for. To share ideas, toss out ideas, think outside the box, learn from others, and so on.

I got mine at home in MN, and took it into NW Wisc and dropped it shortly after. It has since been taken just across the river in St Croix to a really cool cache- Canoe Landing.

I agree with the concept, but disagree with making any more “rules” for newbies.
Instruction, advice, tutoring, etc- all great ideas- but please- no more rules!

Ive been at this since July 2003. I waited until Sept ’03 to hide my first. I placed a total of 4 in 2003. All are still active.
I only have 66 (offical, logged)finds- so by this kind of rule, I would Still not be “able” to hide a cache.
I now have 9 hides all together-placing another 5 in Mar of 05. These 5 are also still active- 3 have over 120 finds, one at 92 and my other at 66(had to diable each spring-high water)

Funny thing is, living in the land of the “King of cache density” cough coguh-
I have seen some of the poorest caches placed by some of the more older, “wiser” cachers.
Cookie tins, plastic bags, caches on busy intersections, etc.
That is part of the reason my find count is so low. I prefer quality- and dont bother with many hides.

From what I have seen- some of the newer cachers have some great ideas! Some thing so far out of the bax, as compared to older cachers- it amazing.
If you were to look at one of MN’s more prolific newer hiders-(All in Roseville)
you’d see he has some fantastic ideas, and is really showing a new twist to creativity.

In the end, I hope it reamins open to each new cacher as to when to hide thier first cache. Hopefully, we as a community can help new cachers by providing what we can in advice, tutoring, mentoring, etc-

But as I also said before, I don’t lose sleep over it. I stand by my stance that there are no “points” for geocaching and no score to be kept. The site does not keep score but simply offers a history of your
                  finds.

This quote, in itself- TO ME – puts criminal or any other cacher the reason to “Close Thy Trap…. as my dad used to “try” and put it. The extra commentary is not needed at this point.

In all reality, I’d say F…….. orget them.
I realize many of you don’t realize this, but I spend a majority of my caching time in WI – NOT mn. I really like the way THIS organization has gone since I became a cacher. Being a dual state citizen (tax payer) has enabled Me to see the quality of what an organization can become. Everyone Here deserves a Great Big Thank You !

A recent Lunch Bunch was hosted by 2 MN cachers. Does anyone wonder why? I sure don’t.

WI, especially now with geocaching – to ME – is “Heaven”.
I got tired of typing at the big site-
Im My Opinion- to be short and sweet –
F……orget them. Enjoy yourself, and let the rest of the ‘chaf’ seperate itself from the wheat. This is Not an officially regulated “anything” You Will NOT be audited, so enjoy yourself at your own pace, and at your OWN enjoyment.

PS – I didnt make it to the last event, but tried- had some problems. . .. .

From the cache page the log is from:

Once you find this cache and get back to your computer, you are REQUIRED to include a joke in your “Found It” log entry … to make the Lion Laugh … or else the Lion will send the Ghost Car after you! (Only “clean” jokes please)

Just in case you can’t think of a good joke, I’ve include a bunch of booklets with One Lion-ers in the cache. Want to hear all these great jokes as they appear, then sign up for leo-geo-jokes.

3073 within 100 miles of 54853 (Luck, WI)
but that # is very skewed- 100 mile radius covers a Lot of MN to the W, so its pretty inaccurate. Within the first 14 miles, I begin to see Mn caches….

I used a 50 mile radius, and got about 700 (minus appx 20 mn caches)

Thats a TON more than were around when I began – Im excited by the growth in WI caches!

PS- If you access caches in your area from “My account” page- I beleive I read recently that the default is now 50 miles.

If you access cache searching from the Hide & seek a cache page, you can manually give it a radius.

Looking forward to it! No, not that the current site is lacking in any way – its just I’ve watched many of my other forums & websites go thru updates recently and “New and Improved” has been refreshing and fun to see.
It gives everything a fresh look, and for some strange reason, I some how enjoy learning new operations, skills, updating softwares, etc. Being confused only leads to enlightenment, right?

Trying new broswers, scripts, RSS, podcasts/readers, and so on. The world is changing before our eyes and close to 99% of the time, Ive seen these changes work for the better.

A big thanks to the people involved in getting it going and putting in the effort to make it happen.

                            Pto

I just read a post on the Mngca forums, where Member 5savages Posted:

                              quote:

I just bought twelve .50 caliber ammo cans (the bigger ones…11 long x 6 wide x 7 tall) from a guy in the metro area for just $5 each. While not the cheapest I’ve found, they are in fantastic shape. The couple I looked at closely had no rust, smelled brand new, and the seals were perfect. A few scuffs & scratches here and there though.

He sells them $6 each in quantities of 1 to 9, $5 each for 10+. The guy is in the eastern metro area and he dropped them off at my friend’s house in Woodbury.

I’m very pleased with the deal. Good price, cans were in great shape, and he dropped them off.

If anyone is interested in getting some from him, send me a PM on this forum, or through geocaching.com and I’ll pass on the contact info. He says he has quite a few available.

If anyone can get to Woodbury, MN (at very least, it seems) this might be a good place to look.

*Using the Gc.com profile link for 5savages would probably work best.

Good luck! (I havent hidden any cans yet, but have plenty before Ill need any )
