We are planing on doing a Meet, Eat, & Greet sometime next month. It will either be in Stoughton or Madison. I am just waiting on return phone calls. Any local feedback to help decide on location would be great.
With the busy days around this house and my cache a day streak busted at 262 days in a row I’m glad to see that someone is still finding caches.
WTG ClaytonKind of sounds to me like a virus problem. If it worked at one time and now does not, I would try the go back feature. It cant hurt, you can allways reset if that does not work.
Congrats on your 3000.
Thanks for riding the glacial drumlin trail to help get you to the milestone. Now if only you had found The Great Sand Dunes or Vicksburg Military Park caches you would have made it sooner. You might also be able to find some ideas from companys that sell weather vains or Lightning rods
you could check with earthcache.org.
Basic math is for the field. Teave the other math for a home solve with a geo checker.
People not replacing them as found is a fact of the game. How many time have you been to the store and found things where they do not belong?
Almost every time for me.
As for people not signing the logs, unless it is a real difficult hide 3.5 – 5, I leave it alone. I have deleted logs on 4 star hides with an email sent explaining why it is being deleted. I also check all my puzzle caches.
The rules state you must sign the log but I guess it’s really owner discretion. I cant tell you how many nano’s I found with out putting my name to that tiny paper. Why could’nt you just revisit caches that are close to home.
Its a shame that it had to come to archiving caches. I just hope that they are all retrived before any of them are found and more blown up.
Haste makes waste and I hope the CO was not hastey in their choice to quit the game.I had a meeting with the McFarland Police Dept a few weeks before we had out ten year event here. We explained the entire thing and showed them a few containers. They took it well and thought it was a great idea.
A few weeks ago someone called on one of them and reported strange activity in one of our parks. The police went out, Once there, they knew what the deal was. They picked up the container, showed it to them and explained what was going on. They then emailed me to pick up the container. They thought it best to remove it from that spot since all the neighbor hood kids now knew about it. I was told that I could still hide there but to find a new spot. That’s cool with me.
We chatted a bit about the police being informed better about them. I gave them the web site and a print out of each cache that is in the area, including final resting places for all puzzle caches.
I think it would be great if some kind of a packet with all caches in each police district was put together for a quick referance, discribing each container and hiding spot.(kind of like the DNR form) Just my thought.
I also have been contacted by the Fitchburg Police in regards to geocaching. I have had 1 meeting with them so far. They want another meeting with them and the parks dept. I figure great, that will open up a large area of Madison’s south side.
Now to work on Madison and Dane county. Some stop signs have holes in them allready. They are there for a reason. It is so that if they get hit they will break off with less damage to what ever hit them. I dont think there is anything wrong with drilling a hole or attaching somthing to a dead or downed tree. However a live tree I would never agree with. I have seen many containers held to benches or signs with valcro either stapled or double sided taped. There again I see nothing wrong. They can be easily be removed on a later date. However If someone cut out a section and replaced it with another piece that was hollowed out to hold a container Like one I had found In another state. I have a problem with that. I guess we need to all decide for ourselves to either report the cache or not.
I had to fill out 56 forms for another cacher that can not write yet. Of those 40 were mailed and the other 16 were hand delivered. I ran into the reviewer about a month ago on the trail and asked him about them. He said that they are very busy and dont have the money to mail them all back. I even had to make a topo map of the trail with a little X on them as to where the caches are becouse they cant afford a GPS. As of today over 4 months later I still have not received a single one back. Dont fret if you dont get a copy back they told me you would hear from them if there is a problem.
Sounds like a fun challange. My best would be 13 mystery,s in a row with no traditional in between. However I did log one in there. It was the Can you count series near Hartford, with a few WSQ’s that were near by.
Congrats on your 2500 find. I have stoped off at that memorial with my father once quite a few years ago. He served in both WWII and Korea.
