According to Buxley, it barred geocaching.com from listing on it’s maps. But since none of us were there, we can’t possibly know the real reason.

However, since the link I provided has data on caches that were placed as of yesterday, Buxley is alive and well. Did you mean geocaching.com no longer publishes maps?

Talk about coincidence. You’re talking about this map http://www.brillig.com/geocaching/wisconsin.shtml I was bored yesterday and was searching through some really old threads – before my time. This was in a thread, in the Help section, where someone asked about the geocaching epicenter in Wisconsin.

This map was suggested. I believe that was before Jeremy Irish had a fight with Buxley and probably had more info on it, then it does today.

I’d be curious to see where he epicenter has moved has moved.

There’s more than that because there’s also other caches out there than those listed on http://www.geocaching.com

Boy Jay, do I have a Troop waiting for you. Bring your rain gear.

By the way weather forcast for the last weekend in February around Camp Ohdakotah – rain.

I see a slippery slope coming up here.

“Why did the WGA approve and endorse XYZ’s GeoEvent and not mine?”
I don’t know that a WGA endorsement for a particular event is that big of a deal. I can plan an event, pay for an event, host the event and market the event on these forums and get a decent turnout. That being the case (and I’m sorry if I offend anyone), why do I need a WGA endorsement? It’s my event.

I would think a WGA Event would be planned by the WGA Board, paid for by the WGA, hosted by the WGA Board and marketed by the WGA Board.

As much fun as the Gifted SnowBuster event was, can you imagine if it was promoted as a WGA event and had triple the participation? What a blast that would be.

Picnics and campouts are great ideas. Why can’t they be done in the winter as well? There are cabins for camping, and hundreds of heated shelters for picnics.

I fully realize that I can plan and host an event (and even ask the WGA for assistance). Been there, done that and will do that again. But then it wouldn’t be a WGA event, would it?

in reply to: WI DOT Wayside caches #1883603

We discussed this once before in this thread: http://wi-geocaching.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6011

I don’t see the gray area here. It seems pretty black and white to me. The DOT doesn’t want geocaching on their property – period

Upon asking for approval for a geocache at a rest area outside Poynette, I received the following reply:

    “Mr. Heffron:

Thank you for your inquiry. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation
has reviewed geocaching activities and does not allow it in rest areas,
welcome centers or seasonal waysides for reasons of liability and safety.

    Robert Spoerl
WisDOT – DTSD – Bureau of Highway Operations”

If I placed a cache without permission where the property owner posted a no trespassing sign, I guess I’d expect at some point, it would be removed. How is this different?

I think they should be allowed. It’s a great idea for a way to break up a long trip. I have personally found them in most of the wayside areas around the state.

but they aren’t supposed to be there.

I posted a note last year about rest areas. I was told by the DOT that it was illegal to geocache on DOT property! Does that clarify it?

    You guys are funny!

We all know that one Mr. Maxwell Zingfried, the head of the secret organization that controls the entire world’s oil supply, Delforence Ignatious Norbando Gilbrao Bellthower Agatatha Teronis, or DINGBAT for short, will never allow the switch from oil to electricity.

Mr. Zingfried controls all the patents on the electrical vehicles – has for years. 😉

    in reply to: Electro-mobile #1883388

Don’t get me wrong here, I LIKE the idea of a pollution free car. I like the idea of an electric car. Until it is as convenient (and reliable) as a gas powered vehicle, there’s no real market.

I think the parts and repairs issue is a valid one. I have a 92 Dodge Dakota. They made – what 450,857,211.5 of these things. I can’t find parts.

Where are you gonna find parts for one of these electric creatures in 10 years? True, you can save money on gas. Are you going to throw it way though?

    in reply to: Electro-mobile #1883387

How do I get these things out of my tire treads? 😆

    in reply to: Electro-mobile #1883384

The problem with all of these “cars” is that my big ‘ol gas-guzzling truck would squish them like a bug.

Oh yeah, good luck on repairs in 10 years.

I’d like to thank all the kind words from folks about my staffs and all the well wishes for my shoulder. I make about 2 new staffs per day and have added a bunch to my website http://diamondwillow.homestead.com It’s good therapy and I’m really enjoying it.

I get to go up to Froedert on Tuesday to see if anything more can be done – right after a dentist appointment – fun fun.

Matt, you just have to place yourself in the proper position to accept the ways of Rogheff.

1 – Cover yourself in mud, sawdust or pine sap
2 – Go to the Goodwill store looking for proper inspiration.
3 – Listen to EVERYTHING that everyone says to you, you will find inspiration.
4 – Surround yourself with lots of screaming kids.
5 – Surround yourself with lots of screaming parents of screaming kids.
6 – Surround yourself with a screaming wife.
    7 – Get yourself a dog – they don’t scream.
    7 – Learn to count.
8 – Learn how to ramble on and on and on and on and on and on about nothing.
9 – Just start typing, you’ll find that inspiration just comes to you.
10 – Make a list and follow it.
11 – Do just the opposite of everyone else!
