I know I bring up the scouting experience I was apart of for about 16 years a lot.  It started with a Cub Scout den of 18 boys and all their parents, and in the Boy Scout Troop, we had 33 scouts at one point.  While not all parents participated, there were still many ideas and differences of opinions a plenty.  The goal was always to provide the best experience for the boys and I don’t see any difference in geocaching.  I feel like I’m very willing to listen to ideas and provide my own, but feel like the goal is to improve the game and not just make sure my ideas are the only ones that are heard.

I also plan to discuss ideas with others to get their opinions on what they would like to see or if they have any ideas that would make the game better.

Not trying to steal MavWitt’s idea, but he has good ideas…we also used the survey in the Scout Troop, and being willing to approach people and asking is usually the biggest hurdle.  Before last year I had not participated in many events during my first 17 years of caching, and I didn’t really meet that many people…but early last year I started attending events monthly in the Milwaukee area and have met so many people over the last year….just getting out and meeting people should be very helpful in trying to get help when needed.

I tend to be one to always be willing to pitch in an help whenever possible….that included coaching for my son’s little league games, stepping in as a Cub Scout den leader when my son’s first leader moved to the east coast, and taking over first the communication role when we joined the Boy Scout troop, and then as Scoutmaster the 2nd year when the outgoing Scoutmaster hand picked me.

As for a struggle or weakness, I’ll say just being new, learning my way on how things are done.  Though I feel not being afraid to ask even “dumb” questions can help in that area.

Hi jacquendoncody, since stepping back from the Boy Scout scoutmaster role I held for 10+ years I have a lot more time on my hands, along with my 2 kids also out of the house, so I felt that it was the perfect time to give back to the hobby I have the most passion for.

Hi Jen, in response to your skills question, I also will be new to this if voted in, so I have lots to learn.  I’m willing to pitch in where needed, as I have lots more time available since stepping down from the scoutmaster roll I mentioned in my introduction.  What I think will help is my experience in planning outings and events as we had a goal in the troop to go camping monthly from January to October (November and December were sometimes as holidays kept everyone busy).  Also planning geocaching events and activities should translate well too.

I tend to be a very organized type of person, and willing to ask questions and provide ideas for something new to do, and willing to do the grunt work where needed.  So I’m hoping those skills will be a help too.
