Yes, I thought I would go with the reinstall of cachemate to the palm as well. As always, I thought there may be an easier way. I have spent enough time on trying to find the ‘quick’ way. Thanks for your assistance.
Hmmm, I don’t know what is worse: looking for a micro in a pile of rocks or trying to figure out how to force Palm cachemate to sync with pc.
At any rate, I am in the middle of this and really need to know how to force the sync of cachemate to the pc.
I have used a file called fileZ on the palm to set cachemate and defaultItems to backup with the next sync.
The Snyc preference on the palm shows that cachemate is set to be backup.
The pc palm desktop is set to accept syncs into the palm folder under my name.
So, everything looks like it should work. But…..it doesn’t.
I am hoping for a nice day tomorrow. Then I’ll go geocaching. I don;t plan on looking for micros in rocks or piles of bark either!
Uisng FileZ I see that the last time Cachemate was ‘backed up was 4/1/06. It was last modified 3/19/06. So, The file, cachemate, was not backed up. When I look at the Synch log I also see that cachemate was not synced.
So, it would appear that I need to get Cachemate to sync.
The device name has not changed. it is still rpaske. I am looking at the correct file in C:Program FilesPalmrpaskeBackup
So, I need to force Cachemate to sync. I’ll work on that!

Are you sure that CacheMate is actually synching… do you see something like “Synchronizing CacheMate” pop up on the Palm and/or PC? This would occur at the very end of the Hotsync.
If it is synching, you may be looking at the wrong file. Maybe you changed your device “name” or the CacheMate database name when moving to the Tx so the PDB file is now in a different place? Search for an alternate PDB file in the same general area (Program Files->Palm…). Or change something in CacheMate on the Palm, do a sync, and then search your entire hard drive for PDB files changed today and you should find it.
If it is not synching, check the settings for the Backup conduit in the HotSync manager. You might also want to delete the PDB file (save a copy somewhere), which should force the Backup conduit to grab it from the Palm.
Here is a link to a Groundspeak forum topic about the same subject… it sounds like you have already tried some of the stuff people have suggested.
This topic took a right turn somewhere. Let’s get it back on track, start a new topic, or just abandon this one. ok?

Looks like some will be here to stay, based on their numerous logs.
I don’t know, am I an ‘ole’ timer? Funney, I don’t feel like one.
For some time, the number of finds for me have been registered as finds. I do sign the log and I do leave a message, especially if I have been to a geocache with a view, or one with a nice walk.
I have found that the journey is more than the find.
With fuel almost cresting the $3 mark, I have found that the jouney on a bicycle or a small motorcycle does make the journey more interesting. Here’s a huge thread at GC.com. http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=92130

Thanks for the update.quote:

Actually, the link was changed many months ago when Brillig and Groundspeak had their falling out. The link will currently take you to the groundspeak map and it is current. if you click on the “identify” button it will tell you what’s what. It doesn’t give the GCxxxx but will give a link to the cache page under the map.
http://www.geocaching.com/map/WI.aspit sure does look like the brillig map.
I think you may be referring to the map link -Wi Geocaching Map – found on the opening page of Wi-geocaching.com site. The map comes from http://www.brillig.com. The site is called Buxley’s Geocaching Waypoints. There hvae been no new updates since 27-Mar. More info can be found here: http://www.brillig.com/geocaching/news.shtml. Hope this helps.

Just wondering who maintains thmae map, and if it would be possible to add the (GCXXXX) to the identifier. I sometimes use the map to look for caches if I’m travling through or to a pitcular area. When doing this I usually just jot the info on a peice of paper, and look them up on GC.com later for manual downloading. Thanks TygerD

They had many suggestions and ideas for improving the site as well, most of which haven’t yet been implemented… I’m sure the rest of the beta testers will provide equally valuable feedback.
Gotta Love this! I pretty much broke it. But Jeremy put it back together. Technology is wonderful!
WOW! Flashback!!!

Socko,
I hope your ammo box remains filled with trading items others seek out, a log book filled with tails of the search, memories worth keeping, respect of geocachers, and journeys worth traveling.
