Pete (or others), do you have an update on the coins for this week. We chose not to pick ours up at the picnic, so I’ve been watching for it. Can someone advise on timing? Thanks a bunch!
I believe that’s also that Viking Qb’s (what’s his name) bday (and my father-in-laws) so we’ll be eating cake as well in someone’s honor….. 🙂

i thought eveything was great. i cant think of anything i would change. no live bears lol. although i do wish i would have saw one cause ive never seen a live bear in the wild. thanks again for everything.
well as one of the crazy cachers that walked from the campground to the Night Cache in the pitch black of night (ie 10pm)… I’m pretty glad that we saw “no live bears in the wild.” You have NO idea how dark it is until you trek that stretch of the park in the dark….
oh the first one is the sweetest I think… welcome to the world of tupperware and bison tube chasing…. your family/friends will never understand until you take them out for their first one…
enjoy your new hobby… oh and be careful (or you’ll get a square on a bingo card for having had to go to a doctor as a result of geocaching. and that’s all i’m gonna say about that…)
I’m not sure I have any changes to suggest, I do want to make sure the board knows: THANKS for the great time and for the great prizes! I was surprised when you said there were 67 prizes. That’s a fantastic prize list (and we appreciated winning).
Because we were camping and Mrs. S had told us about the logistics of the park, we knew about the parking issues etc. For us, we chose to go back to our site and grill and squeeze some caching in and then returned for the pic and the raffle. (To be honest, with kids along, I appreciated that flexibility)
I’d be happy to throw my name in to be a helper with things in the future also.
Yeah!! Congrats!

Yes, there are black bears in the area, occasionally. When my husband was riding his bicycle a few weeks ago, he saw one cross the road in front of him. That’s our first sighting in 35 years of living here. You will have very little chance of running across one when you are caching, though. Make some noise while you’re in the woods, if you want, and the bears will most likely avoid coming anywhere near you.
anybody else remember “The Parent Trap” and the evil step-fiancee being told to tap two sticks together to scare the bears?…. 😈
on that note RT3 is in the living room pounding on a coffee can with two tinker toy sticks singing at the top of his lungs… guess we’ve got our own bear repellant…now to find the culprit that GAVE him the coffee can…..

Bear repellant? your kidding right? are there bears in the area? should i worry when im caching? do i need that while caching in the area? ive never in my life seen a bear here and my wife grew up here? im seriouse should i have bear spray?
Not to worry, my family snores loudly enough that I figure any real bears will take off running 😆
Here’s an example I found of one put in a cache:

My only concern (and I’d have to research) would be if one got opened. We are just learning about my son’s asthma and I wonder if the dust would trigger a reaction from him. His asthma is mild compared to some, but this summer I’ve learned more about how things like campfire smoke and hot tub chemicals/heat create a reaction.
I’ve found articles now from New Zealand and it looks like Europe where individuals regularly use them in their caches.
I think it could be a great way to recycle (although one of the articles says you need to use fresh/new packs or they aren’t as effective. Of course, they sell them….)
woohoooo! Congratulations!

Robin and Lauryn and I will be staying both nights at a motel very close by.
We do however enjoy campfires. I wonder if one of the folks camping there will have a campfire big enough for us to share. Would love to sit by the fire Friday night, even though we cant camp.

We’d like to do that, too, zuma. Nothing beats sitting around a good fire with good friends. So, we’ll be out there Friday evening, too.
Yeah! Bring some chairs or we’ll slide a picnic table over. We love campfires….now I need to procure the fixins for smores 🙂
Thanks so much Pat for all of the info. Our camping this year has been at a private campground that my in-laws have a permanent site at so those details have already been taken care of for us so I wanted to plan ahead.
If all goes as planned we should leave Oshkosh by 3:30ish and get there around 5:00. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I have a 9 yr old that loves to play with his flint knapper and wood. Look for the biggest fire in the place 🙂
well if the new hitch that came in today is the correct one, then we will be camping this weekend as well.
My understanding is that RAC is – non electric, non water, pit toilets, etc. correct?
Sites are on 1st come, 1st serve basis? what about fees? (read $12-14 online).
Any good spots to pick up firewood? will I be selling my first born to get it?
Is there anything else I’m missing? I’m trying to get my arms around filling the new camper and making it there Friday right after school. Oh and solve a few puzzles between here and there… 😉
Any insight would be appreciated 🙂

I wonder if the media gets the rest of the news as wrong as this?
zuma
absolutely…. I learned a lot a few years ago when dealing with an issue at work. Reporters are sometimes clueless about all the dynamics of the story that they are reporting on. You can try to educate them, but ultimately they write the story based on what they comprehend or interpreted. With the internet and competition, reporters will go to press electronically much before they’ve really gathered all the facts. Learned this the hard way when dealing with a layoff situation and a reporter that was trying to make a name for himself. (I know that all reporters are not this way so I’m not blanketing all of them, but the news is someone else’s interpretation of what happened.)
Never, ever trust a news story at face value. I remember visiting the Milw Journal in high school and a top reporter gave us that advice.
