Further proof of global warming! 😆
(Not intended to be a serious comment not intended to confirm or deny the possibility of a global warming effect)
The polish cutie got me a new GPSr as well…also an Oregon 450. I also did not ask for one, but I won’t complain. We took it out for a spin today and I am pleased thus far.
Bill, charge admission to all of your silo caches. 5 cents per cacher per cache. You should have the money in no time.
So…I was led to believe that someone here had candy and they were giving it out for free………
I was wondering if I could have some?
Please?
I’ll write a nice log in return! 😆
That cache is about .5 miles from my house…I’ve been obsessed with filling my days since about December last year. A few days in November and February and I should have it all wrapped up. I should be there that day, but I don’t know if it will be before or after work.
Interesting. Thanks for the info Dave…I should have known that, but I didn’t.

I am going here on October 27th on a winery trip. I guess that the GPS will need to come along.
Love caching trips that start off like that!

I can echo Ralph’s sentiments. It has always bugged me that a guardrail cache gets found 10 to 20 times as often as a nice hiking cache. Unfortunately, it seems the majority of geocachers (and I assume our members) would prefer drive through city neighborhoods and parking lots than hike through forests and prairies. So, that is what they look for and what they place. I don’t buy that people don’t know the difference. They do what they enjoy. Just because you and I don’t understand it doesn’t make it wrong. The strange thing is, if you compare Wisconsin to other states, you will find that we actually have a much greater ratio of “hiking” caches to drive ups. Apparently some people are trying to change that.
Maybe it’s not that they are preferred caches…maybe they’re just so easy to find that no one can resist. Everyone plans to get to the other ones, but…..sometimes that takes longer than one would prefer.
I would say that while there are some urban caches that are in “distaste,” there can be hides in fairly public places that can be nearly completely unobtrusive. Again, thoroughly enjoy a hike in the woods out to a waterfall or a rock formation just as much as anyone, BUT, locally, sometimes that isn’t an option.
Too bad Groundspeak couldn’t prorate the number of caches you could place by the number of caches you’ve found…similar to favorite points. However, like zuma pointed out, that wouldn’t be real friendly for their profit margins.
Man….that would be a lot of fun. Darn summer is booked up solid. How does that happen so fast? Have fun!
Thanks a lot Brian!
Who da man?
YOU DA MAN!
BUMP
Anyone have any advice?
GCX17W-SCOUT’S SLIPPERY SLIDE
Yes this might technically count as caching, BUT if it’s a nice day I could personally spend at least a couple of hours there. Water isn’t too deep and Siskiwit Falls has a natural waterslide that could provide HOURS of fun IMO.
Not sure if it’s FAMILY fun, but the White Winter Winery in Iron River and the Bayfield Wintery in Bayfield (duh) were sure fun for polish cutie and I when we were just up there.

Shane, I suspect you’re correct. And I agree, some kind of flag to help people remember would be great. It interests me that most of these people don’t even respond to say, “Oops, I’m sorry.” I don’t know if they think we won’t act on things or what.
Gary, I appreciate the nice logs too, but have learned to take them when they come as a gift and delete the tftc ones when I’ve checked answers. ruff and polish cutie just did our Amnicon Falls one and he had a nice log. They don’t have to be sagas (although of course those are fun), but say something about what you saw or experienced or something.
Awww, thanks T&B. I’m sure polish cutie’s log will be good too…it just takes her longer to get around to logging. 🙄 Caches like your “Amnicon Falls Meet Douglas Fault” deserve longer, better, more thoughtful logs because of the effort that was put into creating the cache and because they are quality caches. That was the best EC we’ve done….maybe since your Effigy Mound cache.
Back on topic, agree with the types of cachers that are coming into the game. It’s a tough job, but I almost think that some problems can be alieviated by veteran, local cachers reaching out to newbies and giving them suggestions, (controlled) criticism, and praise when necessary.
You read my mind CJ. This has been bugging me too. I knew there had to be a quick fix instead of it being all jammed up. Thanks for sticking your neck out there and asking the community. If you hadn’t started this thread, I’m sure I would have soon.
