Thank you for the quick response on this Packer playoff Sunday.
What last minute things are you guys doing for the camp out?
Flying home from TX in the morning. Woohoo!
See you all this rainy and COLD weekend.
Sounds like fun! I’ve got some ideas, but work is gonna get in the way of this opportunity for me. Heading to TX for 12 days and won’t be able to put any efforts into it. It’ll be cool seeing what others come up with.
Not sure someone saw the sarcasm in my post. 😂
I see some of us are a little slow to catch on to my Johnny 5 reference. . .
I don’t even know what a Johnny 5 is.
You know; Johnny 5, from Star Wars?!?!
May the 4th be with you!
I don’t understand the need for the stacking rules. To answer the question of why do we need more smilies? We don’t, but hosting an event is designed for meeting people. It seems that was the case for the campfire. Creating an event would be an excellent way to get the word out to the masses. As far as an event for the pancake breakfast, it’s an added convenience for the planners that have to estimate the amount of food they need to purchase.
I agree that an event is held to meet people. The campfire event was an event within an event (which is already designed for the purpose of meeting people). So why is there really a need for another event to meet people at the same place? And, I can kind of get your reasoning for the explanation for the pancake feed if it were one of the first years of the event. But it has been happening for enough years now to have a good enough gauge for numbers from past events. Plus, it seems like it has been easy enough to ask those attending the campout to post on that page whether or not they will be eating pancakes on Sunday.
It is too bad that whoever reached out to the reviewer behind your back simply couldn’t have reached out to you first. This behind the scenes communication is just another reason gaining trust nowadays is so difficult. How hard is it to reach out to someone personally to notify/remind them of Groundspeak’s rules before sending that message up the ladder?
Now, with that being said, why is it necessary to earn another “attended” smiley at an event which you are already attending. Is the intentions of your campfire event to include or not include other people who are already in attendance at the WGA event? Can’t you just have a campfire and invite other without the need to gain another smiley? Same with the pancake feed. The intention of the breakfast is to feed those already attending the campout. So, why is it necessary to gain that extra smiley?
I guess I don’t see this game as a game in which it is necessary for me to pile up as many smileys as possible. I do it for the enjoyment of getting outside, being in nature, spending time with the kids, meeting new people and catching up with old friends. We all play for our own reasons, but at the end of the day we should all be grateful for the organization and the people in it that make these events happen in our state. Go home from the campout in a few weeks with a feeling of gratitude and not one of sourness.
This might be more appropriate for a couple of different forums, but I put here in an often read/posted forum and I think someone reading here probably can help… 1. WGA Newsletter went to my Spam, again. Last time I clicked This is not spam. Is there anything else I can do to keep it out of the Spam folder? 2. When I open the newsletter, it is always too big for my screen. Is there a way to make it fit? I use Chrome on the phone and usually Firefox on the desktop. Admin can move this if it is preferred in another forum. Thanks.
I have experienced the same issues that you mention in both of your points. The newsletter goes to Spam even though I have marked it as “not Spam,” in the past. Also, when viewing the newsletter, it does not fit to my screen and I am using different browsers than amita17. Is there a thread in this forum where we can report these bugs? It would be a great goto spot for the website admin in order to get input from users instead of having to look through different threads.
We will have Swedish Fish & Gummi Worms for the kiddos at the campout
Yoohoo! I’ll let the kids know! Any activities planned? We’ll try to remember Purler beads. The girls love to make little trinkets with them to put into geocaches for trade.
As far as the other topics in this forum (that I am just noticing after 6 months)…maybe a choice of another forum thread would be a more appropriate outlet. I see this thread pop up under most recent topics and feel happy that there is new discussion in The Kidz Corner. Then I open the page, to have to be updated on negative opinions and that smile turns upside down. Come on man! Find a more appropriate setting for your discussion and I definitely would be more than happy to reply to the subject there.
Palm Sunday…sounds like a great day to go climb a tree.
Here I sit with zero cache carnival points. There is an event in Wausau this afternoon and a few new caches in the Wisconsin Rapids and Waupaca areas. Guess I just don’t get that excited over souvenirs.
It was fun to gain points toward the souvenirs by other’s submissions of “favorite” to our caches. Those 25 points per favorite can pile up in a hurry.
Thank you for the reply Admin. It is good to hear that steps are being taken toward a fix.
Have you had a chance to visit the forum on gsak.net regarding this issue? There are some very helpful individuals here that reply very quickly to any questions one would post. There may be some advice they can given regarding the API key that would allow for the WGA’s website to continue using googlemaps? I recently posted some questions on the GSAK forums for help in populating a statewide database of caches with GSAK. Because of the restrictions from Groundspeak and GSAK on daily download limits, I needed to try to figure out a way to get the state’s ~30,000 caches onto one list and get around those limits.
It took a few days and advice from forum regulars, but that datebase is built now and I am able to filter from it. The one thing I was trying to gain by doing this is opening up more possibilities for the LCG. If I set a filter for caches “last found on or before” today’s date, the result is just over 5000 caches. So, about 17% of the state’s caches have not been found for a year or better.
Leaflet?
Bob,
Leaflet is a very popular open-source mapping tool. I think it would be a great replacement to the googlemaps that is currently being used on the website.
Here is a link for your information: https://leafletjs.com/
Maybe the webmaster could take the information provided in the link and run with it?
bubblers
fried cheese curds
Harley Davidson
potholes
large amounts of snow in April
Friday fish fries
Bratwurst
Cranberries
Time to make the change to Leaflet?
