OK, so maybe the problem wasn’t FireFox after all. The problem came back today again. I put the computer on stand-by while I went back to work for a few minutes. this is something I almost never do. I haven’t used the stand-by function for over a year, until yesterday. Hmmm. Two days in a row I had to use stand-by, and two days in a row that the computer froze up coming off stand-by, and two days in a row this problem occur ed.

It seems fixing the problem is as simple as leaving the computer powered down for for an hour or so. Now this is all starting to make sense. But now the question is; why is the computer freezing up after being put in stand-by?

I’m still blaming Firefox though. If I hadn’t downloaded it, I wouldn’t have used stand-by either time. 😀

I have a Dell laptop that does the same thing in standby mode. It seems like standby powers down the network adapter and it loses its connection. But when it powers up, it does not go and get another IP address from the DHCP. That is my guess as to what mine does. However since its just a laptop (low power consumption anyways) I just lock it through the screen saver. Personally, I think power saver modes and standby create more problems than what is savd by using them. Just my .02

All the more reason to put text on the cache page….”this cache is available in the winter but is NOT winter friendly!” Or “this cache is available in winter and IS winter friendly. EnergySaver takes it one step further and writes, “available up to 4 inches of snow.”

    Hope this helps! Tami

I would agree this is a great idea, but using the snow icon, starts the process by allowing you to create a pocket query. In my query, I looked fo 100 of them in the Milwaukee area, then viewed their cache pages to decide further if we should go for them. In that case the posting on the page would help, but it would not do any good for a query.

We’ve been doing a bit of caching this winter and for the most part the winter symbols are accurate. However, every 2 out of 10 is either frozen in a puddle or buried under some snow and ice. I think the hiders assumed we would continue to have mild winters like we’ve had prior to this one. Since the cache is protected from snow, it was marked snow friendly, they did not guess the area was going to fill up with water or the snow would be so deep it would prevent you from getting the cache.

There is really good hunting in Waukesha (mostly The Tapp’s caches) and the winter symbols are accurate.

    team_red,

Bring the GPS to the event on Saturday. I can show you there how to do it. I’m sure there will be plenty of others there to help as well.

Uh, Dave, isn’t the event on FRIDAY, as indicated on the cache page? (he says with fingers crossed…..)

Maybe he wasnt planning on going home and keeping the party rolling til the next day?

On a Garmin 60 CSx you would use the Find button to display all your waypoints, then use the menu button and select delete. It then prompts you with which type of waypoints to delete (or all). I am guessing the Legend will follow a similar procedure.

Thankfully I did not take an ammo box when Jason and I found the seed cache, I do have a “be like Rogheff” recipe here for you. Stay awake for 48 hours straight and drink only european expresso the whole time….

hmmm ohhhh oooops thats the recipe on how to start a hallucination, the rogheff one is the same just stay awake for 36 hours.

1 framed backpack to load all your gear into

You know, the basic gear needed to hunt any Rogheff cache 😆

You forgot to mention the following:

    1 Arctic rated sleeping bag
    1 multi-tool
2 pair dry socks (we all know the importance of proper foot care when in the field)
    6 AA Li batteries
    2 gallons of distilled water

I’m not sure how far you want to snowshoe or how “winter friendly” the caches are but the Wiouwash trail has a number of caches available as well as the entire Winneconne/Butte Des Morts/ Oshkosh area. Some are PUZZLE caches and may take some research but should be well worth the effort.

We did the Wiouwash Trail over Thanksgiving. Although I messed up and missed one of the caches, I do remember the one in Larsen is winter friendly and all the waypoints for Chamber of Secrets are at least 3 ft off the ground, the final is low though. Also Beam Me Up Scotty is winter friendly.

I believe they snowmobile on the trail, so snowshoes might not apply. Wild Rose isnt all the far away and from what I have read, some of Lab Rats caches might require snowshoes. You might want to try up there.

When my kids behave this way, I tell them to grow up and get over it. Unless you want to be able to vote or sit on the board, what does it matter to you? The designation of friend or member and $1.25 will get you fries at McDonalds. The organization or club gets to make the rules. If you don’t like them, there is nothing forcing you to belong. If Minnesota and New York are organizations that you admire – join them. Why is it necessary to keep badgering around on this board about it. One of the biggest problems with society today is a minority group wants to change the policies for the whole. I think the straw poll already taken indicates the majority of the members don’t see a need to change. So why do you have to keep pressing the issue? One term I did learn on the GC forums for people who constantly post to be obnoxious are called trolls. Why aren’t you thankful that you have a free resource that you can participate in?

Wow thanks for the reply, your recommdations beat the 25 caches I selected from the area around the hotel. And we are planning an ATV outing, one of the choices was Valley of Fire. I think you just made the choice for us, as we could do both now.

in reply to: External Hard Drive #1879420

Just to confuse things even more, I have used Western Digital, Seagate and Maxtor drives and have had great success with all of them. The lastest portabel USB drives we have purchased for our company has been the Maxtor. But it is true, get a brand name with the best price with the longest warranty is the one to go with.

Also I have bought a lot of stuff at NewEgg, they have a great reputation.

How cool, I’d love to see your pets some day. I bet they are a lot of work and hard to keep track of. Do you have a lot of them? I’ve heard they move so fast that it looks like they are flying… I have to admit that that I am not birds, but raising roadrunners sounds awesome. 😆 [/i]

We are currently working on that Series. Finished Navigation last weekend, still have Elevation and the Final to do. So far we think its a great series and really have enjoyed the long hikes. Good luck with Navigation, we put WP2 back in place, but all WPs are there and dry!
