If they dont allow us to make a reservation, I’ll go there early and grab some tables. Bring your appetite and GPS.
lagrac,
From what I understand the difference between your membership and the full membership is voting – why is it important for you to become a full member?
Actually, next thursday… is there something wrong with Thursdays?
I gotta go with 3Hawks on this one. When the coordinates are off it is really annoying – not knowing the size of the cache does increase the challenge. But as far as cache sizes, they are all good, its the hunt that is fun.
djwini – if you ever decide to hunt micros again – I’ll go with you – I like just getting outdoors with a purpose, micros or not. We’re currently working out way through Whitnall and the Root River.
While we have never done a cut and paste job on a log, some of ours have been brief. There just isnt that much to say or it is hard to come up with something. The thought I wanted to leave is that we have never made a hide to see what logs would come back (even though we do enjoy them) but more as a thank you to the other people who made hides for us to find.
Just wanted to say the process for getting a hide in a SNA went fairly smoothly.
Step one – I started by just sending an email explaining what I wanted to do. A very quick response granted me approval. Step two -made the hide. Step 3 – Submitted the DNR form, Step 4 Put the hide up for review. It was published Step 5 – got second approval back for the location from the DNR.
In the future, I guess I didnt realize aproval was needed after submitting the form. But will rearrange step 4 and 5 in the future.
Actually, if this gets passed around to a few of the clubs, I am sure it could become a very useful tool. Thanks for the info!

Thanks to the magic of POI files, I have the decoded hints at the ready in my 60CSx in case I need them.
And here I had created my own language trying to stuff hints in the notes of the waypoint. I need more info on that magic.
I dont know how exactly you would do this, but find out if the last finder took them thinking they were swag. As with outdoor wisconsin showing gum in a cache, there may be a lot of newbies out there thinking everything is a trade. I think the intro to geocaching classes really help with this kind of thing.
After reading about what it took to create a map, I was looked for the easy way out. And Garmin does advertise they have trails on their topo maps, hence my trip to Cabelas. I would have to say it was a big NOT.
There is a company called US Trail Maps – they have mapped all the snowmobile and ATV trails – which is what I really want. However the user reviews of their product and feel of their website lead me wonder about how good the product is. I have resigned myself to bread crumbing our ATV rides and not worry about the maps for that, but will get City Nav when version 9 comes out to help route to caches in an area.
You can also check out all the maps on many of the GPS handled by Cabelas at their store. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and kept moving the micro SD to each unit for me to see what it looked like. Unfortunately, I didnt like any of the topo maps, but I wanted to see trails, not just topography of the land.
Is there a process for archiving caches where there are deadbeat owners who refuse to do anything about a cache that is missing? There are some that are sitting out there and wont show up on any reviewer list until the owner disables them, but the caches are just as useless as there isn’t anything to find and log. I would think there should be a process that goes around the owner to disable it, giving them time to repair/replace the cache or get archived.
Thank you to all, never even thought about the magnets coming off. How do they expect them to stay on a car that way. Anyhow, I’ll give it to the kids to play with for a while – a true test of durability.
Anyone want to come up with a plan on how this would work? I can see hosting in different areas, but how would you pick the caches? Would they be ones nobody has found before?
Still new to this, but it seems like there should be some reward for the effort that people put into hiding cache. The reward is giving people the chance to find it and comment on it. If the basis is a GC number and a log then I think 3Hawks has the right idea and use bonus caches off a main cache. I have no idea how to do that but it sounds great.
One could always place permanent caches and disable them after the event and finally archive them. What do other states that do not log event caches over and over for temps do?
