Garmin announced today two new Oregon Models, the Oregon 550 and 550t.
Enhanced Sunlight Readable Screen
3-axis compass
3.2MP cameraSounds great, especially the readable screen…(sigh, my 300 didn’t last a year before I got upgrade itch).
No kidding, I sent the wife a link to see what she thought about an early anniversary present (yes we are addicted to geocaching)
We’ve had good luck with MegaGPS also an authorized dealer.
I’m not trying to be a smart ass, but why do you want to load waypoints to Streets and Trips? Or better yet, what do you use it for?
here is the post that I read regarding the owner of the cache:
I sent the E-Bay listing owner a message, and they replied. I copy/pasted their reply to The Cheeseheads:
Hi, This is Clan Riffster from Fl, Found this on E-Bay it may be yours.

It’s a plastic container, about the size of a breadbox. The contents are numerous & varied . . . . probably 20 – 25 items plus the logbook. There’s some scribbling on the inside cover from “The Cheeseheads”, but I can’t make out the numbers. The first entry was in Nov. 2005 then another 18 pages. The typical entry has a date & time, some cryptic message & what was exchanged. That’s it. Sorry, I can’t supply more information. McKeever

Oregon 2.97Beta is out, which fixed the two major bugs that were released in 2.96B. Here is a collective list of what got updated from 2.95 to 2.97:
* Added Waypoint Averaging application. (For more information visit our new Trail Tech website at http://garmin.blogs.com/softwareupdates/trail-tech )
* Added Sight ‘N Go application for the Oregon 300/400i/400c/400t.
* Added option to display four configurable data fields on the map.
* Added customizable text to unit power-on screen (see Garminstartup.txt)
* Added Man Overboard application
* Added the ability to view geocaches logs separate from the description
* Increased the number of waypoints viewable from the Waypoint Manager and Where To?>Waypoints
2.96 bugs fixed:
• Fixed lockup when a search returns no results
• Fixed map stopped drawing while autoroutingI think I will wait until tomorrow to see what the other forums are saying and then give this one a try over the weekend. One thing I do appreciate about the Oregon is the ability to go backwards with the releases if there are issues you dont like.
I looked to download the updates for the Colorado, and they have not updated the software since December, even though they have updated the Oregon a number of times. I wonder why Garmin is not updating the Colorado as often?

The emails to this question from Garmin is that all the releases for the Oregon are beta releases. They are testing out the updates on the Oregon first and when the software is stable they will port them to the Colorado. Personally, I think this means one of two things – either Garmin hired a bunch of layed off ex-Microsoft programmers (let end users find the bugs) or its faster to develop for the Oregon platform. Either way it doesnt sound like the Colorado users are going to be left out in the cold.
And no, I’m not a Mac person, but after using some of these releases, they have broken more things than they actually advanced. However, I spent the whole day putting the 2.97 through its paces and it very cool. Not one hiccup on either one of our GPSs. Now if they update the chip firmware this is going to be one cache machine that wont be beat.
Someone from GC.com contacted the lister – according to the log book the owner is Cheeseheads. Now why would they let a perfectly good looking cache like that go missing?

Just a note on this…the “300” file will not open…it is corrupt or incomplete…I’m going to try later in the week.
The 300 file has been fixed and loads fully according to the GC forums. I downgraded back to 2.95 on my 400t because there was talk of the maps freezing during autorouting.
Actually, the maps freeze or disappear in 2.95 too, but the biggest issue right now is searching a POI alphabetically, shuts down the GPS. I too decided I might wait this one out.
If each person in the group gets their PQ of finds and then they are all combined in the database you will have a database of all caches that some or all of the group have found. Then mark the entire database as found, next import a new PQ of an area; any that appear in the database unfound would represent everything unfound by the group.
Last time Dave and I cached together, he took my found query and loaded it against his database to filter out our collective finds. This does work.
In fact, I’d even do it just get the experience. These challenges are fun, sometimes even better than puzzles.
Here is one way it could work. Everyone would need to have a database of thier finds. Then the first person loads the PQ in the the found database and filters on unfound caches. He (she) would export that to a GPX file and send it to the next person who could then load that file in the their found database and export the unfounds. And so on.
OR you could have everyone send you their found PQs load all of them into one database, then globally mark them as found using the database function. THEN load your PQ against that, and filter on unfound caches.
In hindsight, I like the second version better.
Congrats on your latest milestone, we look forward to sharing the trails with you again sometime (just in warmer weather)

Now, when I first got into these forums, I didn’t know who anyone was, who was serious and who was joking, and what all the insider comments meant. Some of it I still don’t know, but in case you’re totally confused now, Sparki2003, just let me know what you need translated.
Most of all, DO NOT SEND ANYONE ANY MONEY!!!!!!!!

You know, this is what happens when you go caching in Illinois. I understand that these flatlanders have nothing better to do than follow around Wisconsinites and stash live (and dead) rodents in cache hiding spots as we approach. Next time, you better just head north!
There is a whole thread on GC.com about hampster caching. I hear that it originated in Illinois.
