Well, Rick, we are already fifty feet ahead of you, since we were just at the eastern terminus in Potawatomi SP a couple of weeks ago!
I know that zoesbrother and MuggleB have both hiked chunks of the IAT, so maybe they can chime in here or you can contact them. Good maps are a must, I would imagine. The IAT web site, which I’m sure you have already checked out, can help with some of what you might need.
If you need transport at one end of a segment or another, let us know so that we can be part of your support crew when your regulars are unavailable or if they need a break. And when you arrive in Interstate State Park at the end of your journey, we’d love to be there.
There’s your answer, amita: No one is left in the forums to do any posting.
I have seen some former posters who now post on Facebook, while others I know have basically left caching, though none that have said totally, “I quit!” I don’t have permission to tell any good stories even if I knew of any.
Now about caches… I used to check on what was in the area quite frequently, but then there got to be too many caches to keep up with, and then every so often I would wonder, “What about that cache?”, and I would look and find that it was now archived. Or I would be checking on caches to find when planning to visit a certain location, and think that this would be the time to look for that cache, and it would be archived. I can’t give you any reasons, just that some caches always seemed to be there, but then we forgot about them, and when we thought of them again, they were gone.
So I have no answers, but I have just increased my posting count by one. 😉
We salute you, Commander! Congrats on the 5000 finds!
Gramps, we did a teaching unit with you at Hartman Creek SP for DNR employees five years ago, and at that time, most of the state parks and some of the other DNR properties had several yellow eTrex H units purchased for their use. Some had up to eight of those units in the park offices for checkout.
Maybe some of the new personnel don’t know where the units are located at the park…? Certainly Hartman Creek received a goodly amount of those receivers at that time.
I had plans for some Sandland geoart (40 puzzles), but I figured there was enough plastic in the woods…

Thanks for reminding us that not everyone was at the WGA campout meeting to hear all of the series plans.
A multi will get cachers to the same spots as several stand-alone caches at the various waypoints, but the experience of a multi is different. Many people talk about “wasting” all that space for only one smiley. If cachers want lots of smileys, go for the power trails. A multi is a multi for a reason, and seekers of that multi should respect that.
Some owners of multis will allow cachers to log a find for each waypoint. If that is the case, then it is up to the individuals to decide how they want to play the game and how many finds to claim on that cache. If the CO does not mention this, then finders should respect this and log only one smiley for the cache… for signing the log book at the final.
With all of the newer technology, some people don’t even know how to enter the new coordinates from each waypoint. Some don’t even take the time to learn about the different types of caches that are out there. Yes, the sport has evolved, in ways that are good and not so good.
As for the original question, we do one smiley for one multi, even if the CO allows otherwise. That’s how we’ve played the game for six-plus years.

There are still caches yet to be published. The event is still over a week away. Don’t do your final loading of caches until you are ready to leave for the campout.

Will there be a handout at the campout that shows the schedule, the trails and/or the caches that are in the park? GC4Z7KJ
Not sure about a handout or the schedule that the BOD has planned, but here is the link to a PDF of the park’s trails. As for the caches in the park, you could check them out against this map when all of them have been published.

There was one taken. I don’t remember who took it, though. I never saw it.
Four new BRICKS puzzles. A couple of them are horizontal, and the pieces seem to be bigger. Still 300 of them, though. 😈
Awww, maaaaan, Hack! I thought I was going to get to log an armchair discovery for your purdy rainbow coin! Wrong side! 😉
