I do not see “old school” as the next big thing. There are way too many cachers for that now compared to when caching was “young”. Not all locations have wild places nearby to put these marvelous caches, and even though we have some caches of our own placed on public lands, I would hate to see these places become power trails. Yeah, we could squeeze quite a few more hides in there, but why?
I don’t know about what the next big thing is. The genie is out of the bottle now, so until people tire of micros and power trails and numbers, or geocaching goes the way of disco, I see things continuing on the the same direction. As for us, we’ll keep on doing what we like to do, finding a few caches here and there, and they will most likely be whatever strikes our fancy on given days or trips. There are still caches out there calling our names.
If I were any good at coming up with the “next big thing”, I would have cashed in on something by now and be living on Easy Street!
No. That’s just when the race ends and the stats will be taken.
Nie work, Puffins! Now go after all those lonelies up that way! 😉
#1400… ka-BOOM!!!
And let us be the second… Congratulations on 45 years of wedded bliss, Bill and Vicki!
Congrats on the 1000 finds, Scribble Scribe!
Yeah, the camo paint job really works on that one! 🙄
Forget any caching numbers… BigJim is #1 in the fancy pancake-making category!!!
I saw a photo of the 4 0 0 0 in pancake form. Now I know what that meant. Congrats on the 4000 finds, JimandLinda!
Way to flip ’em and stack ’em, BigJim! Congrats on the 2800 finds!
And a great-looking tributee in the log photo! Nice job on find #3000, Wi-Hi… and on the previous 2999, too. Congrats, Sherry!
Congrats on the milestone, Commander! (The beard looks good!)
Hi, Hickaseer! You’re no stranger to us, but we’re glad to see you back in the great state of Wisconsin. Welcome to the WGA and the forums!
Congrats on the 1000 finds, Tom! The smile on your face in that photo says it all.

The other day I found a cache that I had dnf’ed in the past. The cache was a camo’ed bison tube lodged in a natural crevice in the bark of a very large, very old white pine. The bison has a history of popping out of the crevice and being found on the ground. The previous finder’s log included the following: “Found on ground. Rehide better per the way this game is suposed to be played.”
“Rehide better” in this case included carving a niche in the bark with a knife, cutting all the way through the bark to the sapwood. I can’t believe that anyone would believe that this is “the way this game is suposed to be played.”
I was sickened by this cacher’s actions. That resulted in the cacche being disabled while the container was pulled and getting desapped, and allowing some time for the tree to heal. We didn’t want people thinking that it was OK to stick the cleaned container back in the gouge. We wrote a note on the cache page as to why the cache was disabled, but I doubt if the person who really needed to read it ever saw it.
I struggled for most of a day about whether or not I should contact that individual and express my feelings about his actions. I decided not to, but it still bothers me.
Same here, Jim, but I opted for the note on the cache page. Someone who would carve up one tree might carve up more in retaliation for what I might have said. Save a tree.
