We’re waiting for the plows to come by before tackling this 0.3″ of craphas. Yep, that’s what they were predicting for us. I think the forecasters placed the decimal point in the wrong place… πŸ™„ Might even be more, but we haven’t gone outside yet to check.

Unfortunately, cache adoptions have to originate with the current COs. The CO of “Message in a Bottle” appears to be long gone. I suppose someone who wants to keep the cache going could sneak in stickers at WP1 and WP3 with the GC symbol and the appropriate number on each.

The problem with this cache and so many others, however, is that not many want to go looking for it. Most of the area cachers have found it already, and new ones don’t seem inclined to look for multis that take this much time to do, even if everything was there to see. Also, just like Sandland, this location is not the site of power trials and geoart, and cachers have to actually want to visit the area to go caching. Quite a few of our caches languish with very few finders… and I’m not talking only “Granny Squares”! Heck, no one even wants to look for our caches that are on the LCG list! Lots of points for some of those…

In 2012 the nasty weather interfered with some Leap Day cache hunts and events around here and to the north, and this year it looks like the nastiness is waiting till late this evening to make an appearance and will be more to the south. We will be doing a noon event close to home, maybe finding some caches, too, but we plan to be tucked away safe inside when any craphas starts to fly in Sandland.

Yeah, this cache was on its last legs long before we found it four years ago. (Remember, CTQ? Our original plan was to make it a Leap Day find for you and for us.) Cindy22 contacted me for assistance, and I had a photo of the sign at WP1 to send her, since she said the little part with the statute code on it was no longer on the sign. I also told her of how we came up with FFF, which wasn’t probably correct as far as the IAT goes, but it got us close to the pile of brush and sticks where we found the final. She sent me her calculated coords, and I confirmed that it was where she should do some searching, but she’d have to look around a bit. Nice to see that jar42 can confirm that the bottle is still there.

Looks like Mister GT is slowing down. He and Sunshine found only one cache today. πŸ™„ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€

We had some light rain and some pretty big craphas clumps at times, but I think things have moved on for now.

Is that why the late-lamented pirate pet was named Oscar?

Well, I predict it will reach 10,000 today, Mister GT… πŸ˜‰

This year, BBG? As in 20016? As in… it’s only two months old!

Jar42, you have two mice. You caught the dumb one. The smart one is still out there waiting for another single sunflower seed.

Here’s an idea that would work with each of the State Parks where there is an existing WGA State Park Cache.

State Parks with coordination of the WGA could develop a Park Passport for let’s say, 10-20 the WGA member/sponsored caches with the park. The park office staff would verify all caches were found by the cacher providing their verification of finding the cache. The WGA would have an incentive for those who completed the passport book of caches. (mail a pathtag?) I’ll bring an example to the BOD meeting.

Linda, maybe the WGA could work with the DNR to develop a regular (not just for caching) passport book that can be published and sold at any Wisconsin State Park and property. They could have stamps in offices for visitors (not just cachers) to use in their passports to signify their visit to those places, like we do for the National Parks and properties. The WGA could include some brief information about geocaching and our organization in the passports, but this would be for anyone who visits the parks, not just for geocaching, and it might be less labor-intensive for the park workers if they didn’t have to verify cache finds, etc. Could be another way to solidify the relationship between the WGA and the DNR, too…

Here’s another thing to discuss that was briefly touched on when we were on the committee working on the WGA State Parks Series…

There are many properties that were once state parks (or that people think are state parks) that are now part of the Wisconsin State Forests. (Think Kettle Moraine, Lapham Peak, Pike Lake…) There are 14 state forest units and nine state rec areas that could be combined into another WGA cache series for people to work on in their travels around the state. That would be a total of 23 for completion (the parks series is 47), and electronic art badges could be awarded for completion of the forests, the rec areas, and then for finding all 23.

Wisconsin State Trails is another series that could be worked on, except there are a lot more of those to identify and work with, and right now quite a few trails already have caches and/or power trails on them to entice cachers to use those properties.

We’ve always said that milestones are what you make them. Sometimes you make them monumental caches with friends helping you celebrate or having signs ready to hold up in photos of the occasion, sometimes you make them quiet ones in the woods or at special places, and sometimes they pass unnoticed.

If your milestones are out of order and you want to get them the way you want, you can do that on your own GC page through the statistics tab. Find “Milestones”, then scroll down to the milestone that you want to change, then go to the right where it says “actions”, and that will give you a chance to edit and make another cache that milestone. You can also lock or unlock your milestone caches on the list by clicking to make the little padlocks red or green.

Nice view, Noonan. Yes, you should make a jigsaw puzzle of that pic. Glad you’ve put down more permanent roots now and are getting settled in.

Discuss ways to get purchased WGA merchandise to its members without them having to attend a WGA function. Perhaps a BOD member could take on this responsibility, or even an ongoing “unofficial” if a system gets developed. The WGA has members in all parts of Wisconsin, and there are many past members and even WGA fans who do not live in Wisconsin who may want WGA merchandise.

Also, there has not been a new WGA geocoin since 2012, and it would be nice to have general (but with eye-catching designs) WGA pathtags offered on an ongoing basis.
