I know it was always a lot of work to do, but I missed the booklet that has been handed out at some past events. Yes, the schedule was on the cache page, and yes, it was posted in the shelter, but when we had one of those, I would carry it with me wherever we went during the day of the event, and I would refer to it often.
And it was always nice to get something when we registered. The medallion stuff and the tokens in the caches were the “surprise” things, I guess, but I was somewhat in the dark about them all day because there wasn’t a big deal made of it when we registered, and there were no big posters drawing our attention to them. I did see the little cards on the registration table with the clues, but I think that was because I was standing right next to WA when he was getting ready to add the photo clue to the set.
I knew about the games, but like Birdin’, we preferred to cache and chat and see the waterfalls while we were at the event, so I’m not complaining about how things were set up. However, there may have been those who did want to play but may have not been fully aware of how things were meant to go. We do not use a smart phone for caching or for communication, so if we were to play something like this, we would prefer to see big posters at the shelter, and it would be up to us to return to get the information, or maybe have a teammate stationed there who could relay the new information to us when it came out.
Having been in caching only half the time it has been around, we’re not exactly old-school diehards, but we certainly don’t go for the numbers or the new technology taking over the game. We haven’t been able to do a WhereIGo or a Chirp cache without help from others who are equipped to handle these, and I would hate to see the WGA “assume” everyone wants and has newer technology to the exclusion of, or at least rendering to second-class status, those who do not.
We all need to put ourselves in the positions of new cachers who come to our events. We were new once. We didn’t know anyone to talk to, but we received a warm welcome and a bag of goodies (booklet, etc.) when we registered. Lately we have just been signing our name when we show up and left to make our own fun, which is easy for us, but again, think of yourselves as newbies or at least cachers new to the WGA events.
And back to Team Northwoods’ thread about the medallion game, I think TN should be put in charge of anything that requires shiny stuff and glitter in the future… 😉 The BOD as a whole can make the resolutions and work out the details on that.
Finally posted our “attended” log for last week’s picnic event. Added a couple dozen photos to it if you want to see more.
Mr. S came home from the parade here with a pocket full of candy.
Drove down WRR #50 yesterday to check on the leaf color, and we also checked on the BakRdz cache there that we adopted from him. GC20CD8 Scrolled through the old online logs and found this 2010 photo of two very young pirate princesses:

So Big Jim was at in-service all day and wasn’t bored enough to post in the drivel. Have in-services gotten more exciting or has the drivel gotten less?
Homecoming here in town. Nice day for a parade; nice evening for a football game.
That’s because you’re two hours behind us, Noonan…
Maybe this is Homecoming Week in the Thread Stealers’ Thread. I would like that.

That is old news, WA. Didn’t you have that question on the BOD test to become the prez? 😉
Nah. Just plan a trip up there on your own sometime.
Here’s a photo of the medallion finder, Lois of raslas, raking in the prize goodies:

The Mecan is a lot closer to visit, though.
Congratulations on the 20,000 finds, Marc! I think this geocaching hobby may stick for you.
Oh! And thanks for making cemeteries the “in” place to be. 😉
Little Manitou Falls

And now, for your viewing pleasure, some photos of the falls at Pattison State Park, (They may be frickin’ huge!) When I finally write our log for the event, you can go there to see more.
