I think #3 the smaller one is nicer.

Thanks Ken! I’d say that is just what I’m looking for.

I suggest that you consider redoing the cache as a members only cache. I think plundered caches are either found by passerbys or hunted down by someone intentionally but likely not a member of http://www.geocaching.com.

I’ve had one cache taken and one relocated to the point that I didn’t find it, but another cacher did. So, I understand your disappointment.

My thoughts are that I became part of the group by sharing my logs and happening upon fellow cachers on the trail. Geocaching can be a solo activity where someone uses the opportunity to get away from things and enjoy nature. Some may not appreciate a letter or message assuming that they want to be part of any group. Rather, the WGA message on participating caches draws interested persons to this site and it becomes evident that a door is open with a respectful invitation to come on in and enjoy at whatever level you desire. Just my 2 cents.

It is facinating, isn’t it? Cheesehead Dave has a great cache, ”Gee, I’m a Tree” that requires an understanding of this. BJBest had ”TryAngulation” which is a simpler version. I hope to have a similar one soon.

Wow! When I was there, I figured all the guys parked there were just killing their lunch break. Nobody followed me in. I don’t know if I should be glad or insulted.

Actually, the Gold Wing does have a trailer hitch! The former owner pulled a pop-up camper with it.

I’ve kept an eye on OIT. One of the things on my wish list is a trailer hitch and bicycle rack to fit in it for my new Subaru. I got the bike but right now it only gets used to keep up with Kanook on his runs around the block.

An appology is in order from me. I’ve implied and expected to get a nice hunt or two put together and ready for this weekend. While I usually can hike a few miles with absolutely no trouble, my knee will suddenly give me trouble for no apparent reason sometimes. Usually it is for only a few moments. Today while finishing lunch, I stood up and the knee couldn’t take weight or straighten out. This time it is worrying me. Some years ago, I broke my leg in two pieces and had some resulting knee and ankle damage. I’m hoping that my luck has not run out and I’ll be ok to continue my hiking very soon. Sometimes I have ideas and plans and can’t contain my enthusiasm, so I open my mouth too soon. Sorry.

Lacking local caches to go on, I spent all day Sunday hiking around my targeted area carrying a loaded up ammo box and three other smaller caches in my backpack expecting to place all but perhaps one of them. The result was two placed and three miles of hiking around trying to find the right spots. Four PM came and I was running out of daylight. So, had to abandon my second entry into the depths of the forest. Now, do I sneak out of the house Wednesday to do some more plotting?

But a question more to the topic. Several caches have popped up that require some distances to be covered that require driving from point to point. How would you all feel about more such hunts? Any recommendation as to total miles? I’m thinking a good winter time hunt would maybe cover a dozen miles or so and require finding some micro caches or existing information along the way to end up to the final cache. Sound like a possibility?

Well…I’ve long felt that users should pay. I’ve snuck into parks in the past but since I’ve started geocaching I’ve got state stickers on my car and motorcycle as well as a Waukesha sticker on the car. What frys me is taking my OTHER car or motorcycle to a park and I don’t have a sticker. What’s the big deal about fastening the sticker to the windshield using its own adhesive? My wife had a handicap tag for a while and it could be moved from vehicle to vehicle. Why not the same for a state or county tag?

Anyway, I’m just getting both stickers so I can breeze in and not suffer the wrath of smokey.

Bong came to mind. I don’t know if I put it in my log but when I showed up to locate the final cache, I was wearing blaze orange coat and cap. The attendant asked me where I was going and I mentioned ”the site”. She told me that there was deer hunting until 2PM but that I should have no trouble. That should all be over with. If you relocate it around there, everyone would have a chance to buy their 2003 state sticker.

While we could finagle an amplifier, I believe it would gain us nothing as far as usability. A stronger voice does not make for more sensative ears. Better radio performance is gained by improving the antenna situation. I got into the repeater at Gov. Dodge while five miles away on hwy 18. That was due to line of sight improvement. For example, there the best improvement would have been to put the system on top of Turkey Hill, or whatever that rock was called across the road from base. If you really want a wiz-bang system, lets get one of those event blimps and hang the system under that. I guarantee better range!

Loved the hunt and the idea. But I did wonder why you did not select a non-hunting area? For future consideration, perhaps we need to have some kind of press release for hunting clubs about something else that they may find in the woods and maybe even convince the DNR to make mention of geocaches in the rules booklets.

I was thinking of redoing stage two with a new log book and container as well as stage three. I think an ammo box is in order here. I see Bill-Bo is in Oregon now and has done a cache or two last month so they must be getting notification as logs are made. I wish they would speak up and ask for help.

Stage one was the easy one for me as I used the picture program to scope the cache site. Naturally in offsets, the remaining stages remain a mystery until you get there. As my log implied, I took the direct route to stage two and the trail rapidly deminished. It was .50 miles of stepping from dry spot to dry spot. When I got to the cache area, I slapped my head and said “Doh!”
