Well it looks like I got things running. I bought a Belkin PDA serial to USB adapter and once I downloaded the Windows XP driver off the website, it seems to be uploading and downloading at what appears to be the same speed as the direct to serial port connection. I bought this off of eBay and saved about 50% from what CompUSA wants. Also have a USB hub coming as I’ve got four USB plugs using two outlets.

Oh yes, Easy GPS and Mapsource both work with it.

I’ve been trying to get up to the CATO CAR Crash. I’ve cleaned up most things in the northern kettle moraine but wouldn’t mind hitting some over again. Also, wouldn’t mind passing by Lizard Mounds if anyone wants to pick those two up. I promise to keep my hints to myself.

I might be able to ride any of the days. I do have one limiting problem because Pat is still recuperating from her surgery. Let me know the plans. I should be able to do some riding and caching.

I’d like to upgrade to a Garmin V from my eMap only because of the autorouting feature.

Some of us use the Garmin eMap. It does pretty good in the woods and when it doesn’t, I hook up an external antenna, stick it on my cap and that does the job nicely. It has the advantage of having a pretty decent base map in it and accepts Mapsource maps which will then show the small roads and often many old access roads and some trails. I’ve added a 64 meg memory stick to mine and have the entire state and much of Illinois loaded into it. It fits into the shirt pocket nicely. Price is right, <$200 and often <$150 on eBay. Don't be afraid to buy a refurbished one. That is essentially what I have and it works great.

Geoclipping also works on the benchmark hunts. “Documents To Go” is a good program too. I can copy and paste an entire web page to MS Word and keep it. Also used the spreadsheet function to put the triangulation calculating spreadsheet in for future use.

Actually, that is my goal, when combined with usable hints. For the rest of the story, read my log at “Glacier Hills”

Ok, mine are hidden. I’m happy to see that Yawningdog only hid one because as I was going to place one of mine in a spot, I found that there was one already there!! You didn’t like the hornets over there either, did you? What are the odds? I was worried that I’d pick another spot on top of or close to his other one.

Shucks, and I was making a hat with antlers and a duck between them for a door prize at the picnic.

Agreed, but I don’t understand it. The knives, that is. When I was in grade school, we would wear our cub scout and boy scout uniforms the day of a meeting. Uniform included hanging the official pocket knife from the belt. Never had a teacher faint! Just didn’t like the shavings on the floor while whittling down a pinewood racer during class.

Thanks for doing the footwork. I’d like to participate in any meeting and discussion on the letter.

I’m fortunate that it worked the first time. What I do is =save as= into a folder and then use Palm Desktop to add it to the Hotsync list. I don’t put in any directory in the PDA and the file goes right into the ebooks section of Mobipocket. It’ll do what I want but I like the layout of the Geoclipping better.

As I type this, I’m charging up the battery in my Sony Clie that I just bought specifically for this purpose. I hope this does what I’m expecting. I had to choose between gambling $70 for a Palm M105 or go the more expensive but seemingly better value of the Sony. I hope you get your answer. These should come in useful for the picnic perhaps?

Wow, what a great time I had! Finally we found people in the woods stranger than us! If you didn’t come, you missed a wonderful gathering. Thanks again for your efforts. They are appreciated big time!
