Whoo hoo! Not often enough!!!
A container in an urban park would be more worrysome than one off the beaten path in a rural area. Many of us have forgotten or have never learned one of the reasons to place a cache. That is to take others to an interesting place or along an interesting journey.

WaukeshaKen is oh so right. Find balance in pastimes. I went overboard with geocaching at the expense of other things in my live. I still enjoy it but moderation people!

WaukeshaWhen I was a board member, I warned of the need to have a mirror site or regional sites to avoid the weekend bog down. Ask your favorite board member how they are advancing on it. I’m hoping someone has asked Jeremy Irish about it. I haven’t heard.

You asked so here’s my opinion. The area of a cache or the journey to it should have some redeeming qualities of being a pleasant or interesting place. That being said, I have enjoyed tracking down a micro on a college campus and ended up around a bus shelter. But the first type of caching that I enjoy is someplace in the country where I can hike a bit and my dog wander around free.
My preference for urban caches are to be within walking distance of a hotel or motel. When I’m flying into a city for work and don’t have a car, I’d rather spend my free time finding near by caches than boozing up in a lounge.

WaukeshaMultiple logs won’t increase your number of finds….. unless you log them on seperate days. At least it was that way the last time I logged an event cache. The work around is to change the date for each find.
Next thing we’ll see is active together on skateboards. Better get a helmet Ken. Protect what you have left. Ahemm…..
They’re so cheap now that when I asked for a donation of one for a project at work, four popped up on my desk within two days. I think most people are using pocket pc’s now, but I still get a huge amount of use out of my Sony PEG-360. The only reason I’d get a pocket pc is for a job application and it’d need a serial adapter.

WaukeshaWhen I retired the old Taurus wagon for the Forester, I took a hair drier and was able to remove the state and Waukesha county sticker from the Ford and reglue to the Subaru. Yes, all in one piece. Just go about it slowly and carefully.

A valid concern, but nature rebounds very well once the traffic has ended. This might be reason to put a one year limit on the life of a cache. Otherwise, the biggest problem with cacher paths are decreasing the difficulty of the find.

WaukeshaCome on people! Since before any of you posters began geocaching (Brian and Miata the exceptions) there was the provision to scramble comments and spoilers AND the warning that pictures may be spoilers. The fact that this person posted their thoughts on a seperate site is to be commended. Don’t be so insecure and thin skinned that you can’t handle something as minor as this!

I support the membership only concept. I liken it to getting a hunting or fishing license. As long as there are enough free caches for someone to determine if they are interested in the hobby, I’m for MO caches.

WaukeshaTo let anyone interested know, I did get help from two individuals via email. Solved the puzzles and signed the log yesterday.
There is nothing wrong with keeping a low profile or avoiding drawing attention to yourself from the authorities. I’ve been detained by New Berlin police (two squads) in Minooka park simply because someone thought I was doing something suspicious. All I’m saying is to avoid the hassle.
