Yes, go to your routing setup page and select “guidance method” and then choose “prompted”. At least that is how it works for my garmin 60cs. 😛

While it is true that geocachers can be tracked online I do not believe that is the only reason we are being picked on. As a long time hunter, I know that the DNR tracks my hunting activity very carefully. When I kill a deer is registered by them and marked in a small area of the state as to where it was shot. When I kill a migratory bird I must notify the DNR of the kill and where it took place. The state regulates the types of weapons and ammunition I can use when hunting. The state receives extra income beyond sales tax from every box of ammo I buy. I pay about $100 per year for hunting licenses.

In short, money talks and the other walks. We as geocachers do not enrich the DNR coffers beyond possibly buying an annual parking sticker. Even snowmobilers, boaters and others pay fees to the DNR which basically pay their salaries, etc. Yes, we all pay taxes but they don’t come close to funding the DNR budget the way all the extra fees do.

G&G, you have our deepest condolonces. Part of the Sean Connery team is Alex the geodog. We do not cache without her. She is a 10 year old Brittany. As others have said, our pets are our family. We are so sorry for your loss.

    8) Okay, I got my new GSAK registered but it is still goofed up because I originally transferred the waypoints and caches off the old PC by downloading them to my gpsr and then uploading them unto the new PC. This has given me a different looking database even though the essential info is all there. Instead of green cache boxes it shows yellow question marks on the far left. It also doesn’t tell me who placed the caches or who owns them. And when I add a cache, it goes on as a wildcard match which is more like a loc file instead of a gpx file. If you put a loc file into yours, you’ll see what I am talking about.

So again, any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you again. I guess I’ll owe you a geocoin when this is all over.

since we stopped logging the temp caches at events, we found the day much more relaxing. no more pressure to do as many as we could to get our count up. but we find running into people on the trail the best way to meet them. you just naturally get to talking as you walk. i don’t think it would be as easy at the base area to just start a conversation. (i’m basically shy you know) so i vote for some temps in great containers, with varying degrees of difficulty.

😳 After all, how else could The Bond Girl and I have seen djwini rip off her pants and do the red ant dance at the berry berry good temp cache. That alone was priceless though I suspect she didn’t find it so funny at the time.

    8) Okay Jeremy, we got closer this time. I did grab the database off the desktop and downloaded unto my new pc. However, my new GSAK still has me as unregistered even though I paid Clyde for it over a year ago. Also it is doing “wildcard matches” which doesn’t give me all my old database info.

Any further tips or suggestions? Thank you for your help so far. It is much appreciated.

🙁 Well, Thanks anyway but I’ve tried for the last hour and can’t get it to work. Team Deajay, I have no idea what paths or programs are. Understand I know very very little about computers and even less about GSAK. Even though GSAK has told me it has backed up onto my flash drive, it apparently hasn’t as I cant find it on the drive and the amount of free memory on the flashdrive is the same.

So, to both you and Jeremy I say thanks but I just don’t get it.

😛 Well I for one and the Bond Girl for two, we would love to come to a winter event at a state park or someplace similar. We do think that there should be some temps both for new people just learning and for those wishing to build there find count.

As others have mentioned, I too no longer log my temps finds but I used to and if others wish to do so, that’s fine with me. We had planned ourselves to mainly do the permanent caches but ended falling in with another group hunting temps and had a blast.

I like the idea of a raffle and putting your temps stamps in for extra chances, but please no stamps in the perms. You do get a smiley for those. Or why not do like Cheesehead Dave did last summer for his clue event and make the temps perms so they can be fully logged??? Just don’t publish the cache pages until the next day when the event is over.

Anyway, there’s our 2 cents worthX2. Sean Connery and the Bond Girl.

in reply to: Quest 2 or MAP60csx? #1764979

😛 I’d say save yourself $50 and go with the 60cx. Its got both color and mapping capabilities but no compass or altimeter. Thank you for choosing Garmin – their customer is the best I’ve ever encountered anywhere for anything.

    8) Actually, this disease has been around for a long time in the US. Mainly in the “4 corners” area where Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico meet. It is a Navajo reservation that has had problems with the plague for sometime.

    8) I see that TMJ4 news just profiled this t-hunt last night (7August2006) on their 10PM newscast. They interviewed the guy putting it on along with his wife and daughter.

According to John Malan back in the studio, it would be a piece of cake for a meteorologist to solve the puzzles as they work with maps and math all the time. Hmmm!

😀 If you go to the webpage: http://www.geocaching.com and register for a free account, you will be able to see all the logs on a cache page. Just follow their steps to open a new account.

Most of the idea sounds good. I would like to see you allow 4 weeks for an owner to respond rather than just 2 weeks. There have often been times in the past where I haven’t been able to view my e-mail for 3-4 weeks. 😛

in reply to: Pocket Query help #1762844

😛 Okay, here is how I do it.

    1. Left click on the zip file ( which is located on the bottom left of the e-mail)
    2. Save to documents.
    3. Open GSAK
    4. Open documents and drag file down to GSAK on tool bar, let up on drag and gsak opens fully again and does the rest. No fuss, no muss. (what the H … is must anyway?}

    8) Wow! Wasn’t last night fun. I would love to do it again sometime without all the TICKS. I think the final count was caches found by our group 13, ticks we took off ourselves and our clothes last night and this morning 24. The ticks win!
