I agree with “Greyhounder” about the seminars and more knowledge being shared. We have picked up bits and pieces of valuable info going to some events but really wanted to learn more. Especially the planting do’s and don’ts. The question of how to log event finds, if there is a right or wrong way. Travel bugs and Geo Coins are all great, but how does this work? Perhaps having the Millenium members on a panel for other, less experienced cachers, to ask them questions would work. This would be like a live forum.

I have to agree with Outtahand’s comments entirely. It seems to be just as much work to find the “temporary” caches at the events I’ve been to as it is to hunt many other caches. Also, If you’re checking people stats on GC.com, it states they are event caches. At least I found them on my own (ok with Bond girl) but the world record holding Germans needed a local guide or two and months of advance planning to make their record setting hunt. In other words I vote for allowing event caches to be logged.

I’m not sure if the lawmakers in SC are upset that people are “playing” a game in their cemeteries or if they aren’t actually afraid of people with gpsr in areas with monuments etc. Unfortunately, in this day and age (post 9/11) people with gpsr’s in certain public areas send up big red flags. As for games in cemeteries, myself, my spouse and many of our friends remember either being given assignments by our teachers to visit cemeteries and find and record the oldest grave, largest grave, most unusual grave, etc.

We defenitely need to take a proactive approach to educate both law makers and law enforcement about our sport. If we can quell thier fears upfront we may not need to be offically regulated. However, it will take courtesy, respect, and not so common sense from everyone at all times. I hope we as the sport participants are up to the challange.

This sounds like a fun time. I would also be interested in camping information.
