Can this be made into a sticky so the list can get updated and always appear at the top?
If you look at the 14 bookmarks that cache is linked to, you will see 5 other bookmarks that have something to do with “Oldest in the State”. Some consolidation might be in order. Which which of those 5 is the most current?
I’m opinionated about many things and the COTM is one of the issues that gets me fired up. Just like many other aspects of this sport, once the intent is side-stepped in favor of nepotism, the value of the results is lessened and cheapened.
The existing COTM is flawed for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the difficulty of getting an objective swath of caches across the state every month that have been visited by enough cachers for a fair contest. I agree that for the most part, caches that get nominated are worth it. But there are times when a ho-hum cache gets nominated, and even wins, when there are literally dozens of better and more creative caches within a mile of the winner.
I long ago proposed, and many others before me, a simple objective ranking system for caches that could be used to determine the best and brightest in the state. A system that would allow isolated, but exceptional caches to carry as much weight as a good and frequently visited one. The tougher the cache, the less likely it will get enough votes to trump a more accessible, but perhaps not as good one.
I was told a year ago that some form of evaluative voting and ranking system was in the works. I still think that this could be a valuable tool, for many reasons, even beyond COTM, and yes I understand that it too will be subject to the same miss-use and abuse. But what it would do it remove the favoritism aspect of the COTM, since no one would be nominating caches anymore and cache owner’s would know their caches were caches were up for COTM until the month-end evaluation of cache rankings.
I don’t know specifically how you’d set up the system to do this and by what time and area constraints caches would be evaluated, perhaps it’s all too complicated to pull off, but it is an idea worth exploring and since i haven’t heard or seem anything on the subject for over a year…. consider this a bump.
Love that Ice Cave. Wasn’t real big when I was there a couple years ago, but still VERY COOL. I wonder what it looks like this year?

I was expecting a smiley face configuration….. 😆
Smiley no, wave of water, yes….
Gotta run was trying to fly under the radar, and almost did!.. Seems like a whole slew of cachers reached a 1K mark during the coldest winter I can remember. I just happened to catch a couple before they crossed the line (got my EYES on you Team BC 😯 )
I decided to keep it low-key by upgrading a semi-normal hide into the special 1K tribute, for many reasons. One of which is the fact that gotta run was already familiar with the final cache, but not it’s upgrade and the other was his mention of this “gift-like” cache being on his milestone probability list.
It all fell into place after that. I might not be big on milestones myself, but I sure love to put out tributes. Now, who else is getting close?
I’m seeing a solution and happy medium. I may be unstacking all of mine, but only by variants of 22′. They may not appear unstacked until you zoom in closer on the map.
For most people this unstacking isn’t a big deal, but for me, just about every thing I come up with as a cache idea ends up turning into a series. I have more than 100 caches to unstack, so it may take me some time.
So, for those of you interested in this issue, take a look at the Laughing Waters series and tell me if you think that series of 12 caches, now unstacked, is an improvement and is the unstacked distance acceptable.
Some of mine I may not unstack because the final solution is based on manipulating the bogus cords, a topic that hasn’t surfaced yet in this discussion. Not sure how many I have like that stacked on each other, but there are bound to be some.
Anyway, please look at downtown Menasha and provide feedback, good or bad.
Welcome to TRyan, SalVo and sweet 17. If any of you spend any time caching in the Fox Valley or crusin through the forums, you will likely come across my name. Looking forward to some new blood finding great old caches!
Guess I’d like to see a poll first on how many find it irritating vs how many don’t care. I’d prefer not to, but I can be convinced otherwise.
If I did, I would probably just stack them by variants of a tenth of a degree in one direction, kinda like a hand of cards.

Appleton Unstacked. Kaukauna, Menasha and Neenah would look similar. Not sure if it would make much difference except that the map would just look even more cluttered than it already is. That many puzzles placed individualy look pretty daunting as well.
I see no reason not to stack, especially for a series. All caches need to be reviewed, stacked or not.
I’m going to try to keep this short – being the most vocal and opinionated about this topic, it’s very easy for me to get long-winded.
First. Thanks -cheeto- for breaking down the numbers in much the say way I see and interpret them. I know the poll has flaws but the results still speak volumes about the overall luke-warm reception of the new logo.
Second. Lets all agree that the current BOD did follow the agree upon process to go from initial logo concepts by the WGA body to a final vote for the final “concept”, voted on by the body, and finalization of that concept and final vote by the BOD. While some of us were not happy with the timeline, the degree to which information was presented or even the final color choice, it cannot be said that the BOD didn’t follow the process through to the end.
Third. We have the final choice of the “vocal” WGA body and the final version of that choice as voted on by the BOD. I don’t think there’s any merit in revisiting that process or talking about any of the other logos or color choices to date.
What does bear discussion and will soon be presented to the new BOD as a proposal, is whether or not there is anything to be gained by submitting the concept to the professionals, in a tight timeframe, for a limited amount of money, to see if a parallel contest could yield any stronger candidates then our internal contest did.
For all the reason listed, some of us do still care.

I think gotta run’s just showing off now.
And I think gotta run is conscience of what can happen when the point difference between contenders isn’t over 50…
It’s so cold
Sagasu won’t even chase a easy traditional FTF… now that’s friggin cold!
