Thanks for stepping up guys, bout time you high-rollers hosted one anyway 🙂
There’s no reason this has to happen in a restaurant either. There are lots of other options like VFW posts or Nature Centers or Libraries and the like. I know food is usually integral to these things, but even that can be handled pot-luck style.
I would have stepped up already, but I would want to host if close to home and I’ve already done that. I would much rather see someone from some other region of Wisconsin take the reins.
What about asking the UW-Stevens Point geocachers to host it in Point at the University. For that matter, any club in the state at a University. Lots a rooms, minimal fees and access to food courts if you schedule it right. Problem solved. This one I would help coordinate if I could get a “Point” person to host.
Seems like the possibilities for place are endless and that we should automatically limit ourselves to restaurants for these things.
Sometimes these things are easier said than done. I appreciate any effort to pull these types of events together and appreciate more the commitment of LCG players who inevitably end up driving through a blizzard to get to the destination.
I certainly hope that there is enough interest in this event to entice other players to step. There are plenty of places and organizations who would welcome the opportunity to host a gathering of this size and not be as off-putting at the place where this one was being staged.
Well, though I’m in no position to give any advise on what Android app to use for finding caches, I can tell you that I have had no issues using Geohunter on my HTC Android. I also tried Geobeagle but found the “canine” theme more irritating that useful.
I’m not an avid hunter and don’t do many of the field functions that others might from the phone, but the compass, map and data functions are flawless. Great little app and I don’t think I paid a thing for it.
Groundspeak is going to loose out if they continue to charge a premium for their app. Drop it down to $1.99 or $2.99 and you’ll get some support from people who download only free apps or apps for a $1. Keeping it at $9.99 is a death sentence in the app market.

Hrmm..I see I’m going to have to push Dave a little to keep finding just enough to drive Alex nutz so he runs all over at 3 in the morning…. that should keep the numbers flowing this year 😛
Can’t say I didn’t have fun caching twilight through daybreak in the north woods or going on 36-hour LCG binges, but that train left a long time ago. Last year’s windows were only open for a few hours at a crack, save one memorable over-nighter 😉 and this year… let’s just say I have only one LCG cache on my radar and right now I fear it is encased in ice!
Like everyone who gets sucked in, I did have a blast playing and the competition was always in good sport, although a couple times when I sandbagged it did get a little dicey. I’d encourage everyone to play, just make sure you balance the things that really matter in this life with this past time and don’t let it tip the scale too far.
I may be done with the 3am moonlighting for points, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find myself placing a cache at that early hour.
Year 5 is going to be a banner year for S|S!
Oh yeah. Congrats HP2 on your monumental year!
It’s all in good fun. I see I came in 6th place last year. Not bad for a year I didn’t think I was going to play at all.
Had to give Dave a little jab for enticing me back in the game early on last year when he brought up the ALL time lead thing, which I too never really considered part of the contest.
As much as none of us want to admit it, there is some element of competition in this or there wouldn’t be any tallies in the first place. How much influence that has on our state of play we each determine in our own way.
I let myself get “into” that ALL time lead chase and probably put myself out there more that I should have last year because of it.
Sure is nice to sit back and watch from the sidelines now. This year’s goal? Beat -cheeto- and come in 71st!

Well thankx to everyone who chimed in and helped me solve this puzzle, but it looks like I won’t be beating this dead horse afterall.
oh well, I can’t wait to get the new puzzle WA places here……….
I just got word it’s back in play. Hooray for us….
And they managed to do what I could not in just one year.
Let see now, if this game started in Jan of 08 and the leader of that contentious first month was not determined (the lead flip-flopped a few times) until the end of Jan, indeed on or about Fed 7th of 2008 and the current lead is unquestionable on Jan 10th and will likely not change, would the former leader actually have held the throne for 3 full years? I’m just sayin…
just seeing if Dave is paying attention 😉

Is the container still on place ❓
It is not. How do I know? I went back to grab it myself since it was me who put out the replacement ammo can in the first place. Gotta_run is right, however, my rather eloquent and sarcastic log of that LCG replacement was long ago erased along with all of my Bear Bear “found it” logs last fall.
TBB is one of 3 cache placing teams whose finds I wiped clean from my slate of finds as my own reflection of the level of respect they have for the sport and geocaching ethics in gerneral.
Made me feel good anyway…

Jay,
Received a message to join the WGA Facebook page, just a few days ago did a search and found the second one listed here, which one is the “official” one, and should the other be shut down if it is not associated with the WGA?

I agree!
I just noticed the link at the bottom of the home page!
I’d suggest hanging on to the FB page that has almost 2 years under it’s belt, albeit not much action, in favor of the brand new one. Someone apparently didn’t get the memo…

Question is, do I dry it out and replace the cache
No! Just put a needs archived log on it and treat yourself to a free ammo box in 31 days.
It’s a ammo box? It was a peanut butter type jar back in the day.
Maybe an LCG temp replacement?
Nah, then it would have been a film can and you’d probably still find the original cache when you went there anyway. 🙄
Read the logs and you’ll discover why it morphed from a plastic PG jar into an ammo can… and if you know the history of this poster and that owner, you’ll get some, if not all, of the subtle humor therein.
Stopped by today to see what the condition of the can was to discover that it has already been “rescued”…

I have given up, as the place I’d intended to have the final has been taken over and I don’t want to compromise and stick it somewhere else that has no connection to my topic and storyline. But I have all the hours of research, photos and storyline all written up in case things change down the road, and I’d still like to make it work. This was going to be the WRR 31 cache, too.
I’d like to help you out and am going to PM you on the particulars of this situation to see what I can do. I’d consider it another step in my own learning curve.
Also, while your final location is now taken, perhaps the workaround is simply one where you add additional task or stop at that destination with an additional “Congratulations, You just finished this Whereigo Cartridge” step with the inclusion of “now proceed to N–W– to log the final”. As with many of my own puzzle caches, where there is a proximity conflict, there are workarounds where I can still incorporate landmarks or historical POI’s, even within a dozen feet of another cache, without impacting either. Something to think about.
I see my outbox was full and perhaps that prevented my offer from coming through. Sorry about the unintentional implication if any, but I was thinking it might be something like that.
I’d PM’d you with an offer to assist the committee in generating some of the graphic elements that might be needed on present and future sight changes. TBC has replied on a couple of occasions that some of the proposals I have offered have merit and there’s no reason for me not to help out if that kind of thing is needed or wanted.
