They’re all REAL 5 star ★★★★★ Terrains… None of this 5 star Wisconsin stuff.

I don’t believe there is a single genuine 5-star terrain in this entire state.

Hmmmm…. I think I almost agree, save Broken Dam and Nifty Fifty, 2 underwater caches that CAN be done without gear, but not recommended…

Just a word of caution to watchers and would be seekers of the series. I was recently informed, by way of cache notes, that the approval of the series was perhaps a little premature on the part of the Environmental Coordinator at the Y. The expectation was that the caches would be relatively close – not close enough to be discovered by other trail users but close enough to comply with the preserve’s “stay on trail” policy. Apparently some are not and some might be close to “trails” but not the identified trails.

As that individual completes the series, he may have us relocate some of the series finals. If this happens I will work with the cache owners to relocate. I am also going to suggest to the cache owners, all relatively new to the sport, that they DO NOT MODIFY their puzzles! Partially because it is not simple to work with HTML and partially because many may have these solved and are just waiting for an opportunity.

I will suggest new final locations and we will remedy the solve issue by incorporating GEOCHECK solves which will contain the revised “offset” cords within the congratulatory SUCCESS message.

For now, and until you hear otherwise, game on…

My personal preference is that multi’s should be just that – a series of containers where the coordinates say they are. Anything that requires any kind of research or solve should be classified a puzzle / mystery.

I agree with CodeJunkie. Any cache that doesn’t take you directly to the cache, or at least to a set of coords that eventually bring you to a cache should be listed as a puzzle.

Or you could just list them all as puzzles to avoid any confusion…

    Congrats Ed!

Glad to see that your personal goal of 1/3 of your finds being puzzle caches is still going strong as well.

It’s gonna get tougher, buddy. But let me know if your in dire straights. I’ll need to know what’s let for categories when you get close to 1K. Some of the pieces are already at play, but I may need some tweaking if the only thing you have left by that time is a Whereigo! (working on it…)

I looked at a sampling of my caches and didn’t see any “auto” attributes. They all looked like one’s I would have set (or the original owner would have set). That would be rather odd four Groundspeak to automatically apply attributes to caches.

Even better than the P&G attribute is the “not P&G”. I used this one to add some irony/humor to one of my sons caches.

Well, either it was a fluke or someone at GS realized what was going on and remedied it as soon as it was brought to thier attention. Earlier today I opened a few in my Great Story series and they all had a set of new attributes applied, all with “not required” line through them. It was very weird!

But, I see now that everything appears to be normal. So everyone can simply go back to caching…

I did a UV light required one at the Cash Bash and I own one that requires one. I know there are a TON of them in california, I did a few when I was out there.

I used a few of the new ones last night when creating a new puzzle, and I like the changes for the most part.

That would explain it. I haven’t done any that require UV but have one on the workbench that does. Just out of curiosity, of the one’s you’ve done, are you using UV to read UV reactive ink or are there other UV elements I’m not aware of.

I guess I’m still curious why there’s a whole category. We also now have a “Night Cache” attribute and a “Flashlight Required”. With the “UV Light” I think we’ve got the night caches covered…

Going through the first 10 or so caches I own, I’ve noticed that somehow, my attributes have been picked for me. For instance, Match Head states its a medium hike, and so does Fish Hook. Both are true, but I didn’t put that attribute in.

Another good example is a cache I adopted from a cacher who passed away. There are 7 attributes there now that were not there before. All of them x-out attributes, like no rest rooms and no stroller access.

In another case, I’ve noticed an attribute or two missing. It’s going to take a while to go through them all and fix the errors. Not sure I should start now though, in case it changes again? Then again, I don’t want cachers misdirected.

As far as the Auto-assigned Attributes, I am not AT ALL happy about this new situation, PERIOD. If our caches were going to be modified, should we not have had an opportunity to OPT out or at least have been forwarned? I didn’t see this until you pointed it out, TyeDyeSkyGuy, and I am now anticipating a #)(&%^storm from cache creators who specifically set Attributes to match their cache listings.

Now I have to go through 150+ listings and remove all of those attributes I don’t want and replace the ones that were pulled? Are you kidding me? That’s probably 4-5 hours worth of work that I don’t have, WTF! Whose brilliant idea was that?[/b]

Speaking of Pulp Fiction, a fav of mine, when is the sequel going to be done. I’ve been waiting more than a decade to find out what was in that briefcase! 😀

Are you asking, seriously? It is what you want it to be. If you are like me and have a sense that what was in the briefcase was priceless to Marcellus, then you assume it’s his soul extracted from the back of his neck (Chinese mythology) and hence the band aid on the back of his neck, the combo on the suitcase 666 and the apparent protection of Vincent and Jules miraculously saved from a barrage of bullets. We don’t know how the kids ended up with the briefcase or how, when and why Marcellus had his soul extracted in the first place or indeed how he got it back, but we do know Quentin is heavily influenced by far-eastern mythology through his appreciation, understanding and use of Chinese and Japanese film plot lines and cinematographic tricks.

Of course you can believe it is anything you want. It could be gold (although too heavy to be believable), could be the Diamonds from Reservoir Dogs (if you like tying elements from separate films together (a good alternate to the most common speculation of his soul), could be Elvis gold suit or a bunch of unwrapped Twinkies for all it matters. In truth, neither Quentin nor Rodriguez will ever tell is, insisting instead that it is only a MacGuffin, meant to move the plot along without ever revealing what it is and letting us ponder it for a decade… or more!

Nothing new to cram a bunch of “star” names in one film. (Can you say Pulp Fiction, Robert Altman films of the 90s, Oceans 11…12…13…) Usually “action” heroes have too much of an ego to share billing. In this case, I have a feeling that most of them will just be cameo appearances with Stallone and Statham getting most of the screen time.

This is true. At least Pulp Fiction has something novel to it’s cookie-cutter storyline and was fun to piece together. I loved the cameo by Walken detailing the history of Willis’ watch 😉 A well written and acted script didn’t hurt either. Everything after that by Quentin (or with Quentin sharing the bill) has been less impressive and some of it almost worthless, but then Terrentino borrows heavily from his predecessors too.

Ditto on the Altman films, couldn’t agree more. The key word is “usually”, not all mega-casts turn out bad. X-men series, Sneakers are some examples where a thick cast did not result in a thin film.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Pack that many action hero’s into one feature and you’re bound for disaster. And seriously, when have any of these guys been in decent action flicks save Li, Statham and Willis? This is not going to be a “Collateral”, “Run Lola Run”, “Lock Stock & 2 Smoking…” or “Bourne…” caliber movie. Those were worth seeing in a theater.

Do you not recall the pain of sitting through Con-Air? A million “cool” explosions and wholly unbelievable action sequences does not a good movie make. A well thought out and cohesive plot on the other hand… And, to be frank, these guys are all so typecast none of them will be bringing anything new to the screen, just 2 hours of repeat characters.

Now why couldn’t they have taken this line-up and cast it for another remake of 12 Angry Men, that would have been interesting! They could have called it 12 Angry Has-Been Action Heroes.

    @Team Deejay wrote:

The problem is, if you find “remnants” without a log, how do you know that it is the cache and not just random garbage. I see this all the time, where people log “I found your cache, but the logsheet was missing. TFTC!”, immediately followed by “Tricky find, took me three visits to find it. Trashed out empty yogurt container that someone had pitched near GZ. TFTC!” Remnants indeed! If you don’t sign the log, you didn’t find the cache.

I think I stand on this side of the equation. Like most, I don’t waste time verifying physical logs unless it’s real obvious that someone is sidestepping. Since I own almost exclusively puzzle caches, the final log is not so critical to me if you’ve gone the distance on the solve. Ergo, if you find a final of mine with a wet log and can’t repair it, if you find a canister frozen in place, then by all means log a find and also alert me to the conditions, but please leave the physical cache alone. I’ve had too many broken caches in the past to strictly enforce this requirement.

On the other hand, if you find a nano with cords and go to the cords to discover that you have to crawl through a drainage pipe to sign the final, don’t post a Found It saying, “we saw the cache, but didn’t want to go in there to get it”! That kinda defeats the intent.

My ground rule is this. If you can physically put your hand on my final caches, than you can log a find, particularly if you think getting into the cache may damage it.

When you hide caches, it is best to avoid residential areas. The idea of this game is to get people into the forests, prairies, mountains, and marshes. We have lots of beautiful places to showcase with our caches that are NOT in someone’s backyard. Please try to take advantage of these. Your finders will love you for it.

Just to clarify, this is a single well camo’d cache in the middle of a 2-3 arce city park. It is a micro and wouldn’t be suitable for an 8-ball, much less any other common drug. Unless crank and meth are taking over the valley, there isn’t any reason to mistake it for anything but what it is. I suppose I could see misinterpreting it as a drop for a prescription drug drop, but what idiot would put something like that in the middle of a city park? I am surprised that a PO would inspect the cache, see the log sheet, and determine that it is anything but a geocache, and then elect to remove it.

The problem here is not the sport, but the paranoia that pervades our society. We’ve all experienced it, the questioning eyes upon us as we try to find a cache. No matter how obvious we might make our actions, somebody looking from afar will automatically assume the worst because that’s what has come to be expected of us in our Neighborhood Watch’d neighborhoods.

Whatever can be done to inform local Law Enforcement is a good thing, but it won’t stop the “suspicious activity” calls to the Police. However, it might mean that I won’t have to sit in the back of a squad with those dang shackles on as often… as that’s a good thing 😉

    High noon
Oh I’d sell my soul for water
    Nine years’ worth
    Of breakin’ my back
There’s no sun in the shadow of the wizard
    See how he glides
    Why he’s lighter than air
    Oh I see his face

    Where is your star
Is it far, is it far, is it far
    When do we leave
    I believe, yes, I believe

    * in the heat and the rain
    With whips and chains
    Just to see him fly
    So many die

We built a tower of stone
    With out flesh and bone
    Just to see him fly
    Don’t know why
    Now where do we go

Hot wind moving fast across the desert
We feel that our time has arrived
The world spins while we put his wing together
A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky
    Oh I see his face

    Where is your star
It is far, is it far, is it far
    When do we leave, yeah
    I believe, I believe

    *

All eyes see the figure of the wizard
As he climbs to the top of the world
No sound as he falls instead of rising
    Time standing still
Then there’s blood on the sand
    Oh I see his face

    Where was your star
Was it far, was it far
    When did we leave
We believe, we believe, we believe

    In the heat and rain
    With whips and chains
    To see him fly
    So many die
We built a tower of stone
    With out flesh and bone
    To see him fly
    But why, it don’t rain
    With all our chains,
    Did so many die
    Just to see him fly
Look at my flesh and bone
    Now look, look, look, look
Look at this tower of stone
    I see a rainbow rising
    Look there on the horizon
    And I’m coming home
    Coming home, I’m coming home

    Time is standing still
He gave me back my will
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
    Going home
    I’m going home
    My eyes are bleeding
    And my heart is weeping
We still hope, we still hope, oh
    Take me back
He gave me back my will
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
    Going home
    I’m going home
    My eyes are bleeding
    And my heart is weeping
We still hope, we still hope, oh

Take me back, take me back
Back to my home, oh, oh…
