    Hotdogs_off_trail,

Here is some additional informaiton about Sedona from the RCI reservation exchange site. Currently available units are the 1 bedroom (max 3, privacy 2) units with checkin on 10/22. Obviously if you’re interested, you wouldn’t need to use the entire timeshare week. The cost to you would be lower than staying in a hotel – possibly unless you only stayed one night. If you want to discuss further, you can contact me at “steve at karoleks dot com” or “skarolek at wi dot rr dot com”.

    Additional Information:
Each cottage unit at Sedona Pines Resort is air-conditioned and has a full kitchen, telephone, television, VCR, dishwasher, whirlpool tub, CD/stereo system, and microwave oven with convection oven only. 1BR units OCC: Max 3/Pri 2 have 1 bath, 1 queen bed and a queen sleep sofa. 2BR units OCC: Max 5/Pri 4 have 2 baths, 2queen beds and 1 queen sleep sofa. No pets are allowed. THE UNITS ARE NON- SMOKING. A credit card imprint of US$75 is taken at check-in for damage deposit. There is a charge for incidentals. PLEASE NOTE: With the 2 bedroom cottages, the 2nd bedroom is separated by a small porch; it is detached from the other bedroom. Resort is unable to provide an upgrade to a larger unit. The cottages are high quality modulars: 1BR units are 400 sq.ft. and 2BR units are 600 sq.ft. The resort has an on-site fitness center, lagoon spa that seats 20 and complimentarylaundry facility. Visit the resort website at: http://www.sedonapines.com

    Urgent Information:
UNITS ARE HIGH QUALITY MODULARS. 1BR IS 400 SQ FT; THE 2BR IS 600 SQ FT. THE 2ND BR IS DETACHED, SEPARATED BY SMALLDECK. BE CAREFUL CONFIRMING TO FAMILIES WITH SMALL CHILDREN. ALL UNITS ARE NON-SMOKING. NO PETS ALLOWED.

    Hotdogs_off_trail,

Sedona was suggested as a visit. Do a little bit of research on “Fairfield Sedona” and let me know if you want to stay there. I have an RCI exchange or two about to expire that might be able to get a week there very cheap (no timeshare presentation required

Thanks for the explanation. I thought I did a pretty thorough job of looking around for the referenced designs <:-) (that's me with a dunce cap and a silly grin)

Feeling pretty dumb here…lots of discussion of coin designs but I’m not seeing examples, links, etc. to the proposed designs. What am I overlooking?

Like other things, it is always good to ask if you have any doubts. Last year when I found a particularly challenging (terrain) cache (GCD) near Seattle, I found a really cool geocoin in it. The coin’s owner had her own logging scheme. When I logged it on her page, I noticed that it sounded like others had kept the coins they found so I emailed her and asked. She had been giving me hints and encouragement while I made several attempts at GCD and it turns out she went up there the morning of the day I finally got there knowing I was going and put the coin in it for me as a special reward for making it. That made that cache even more special and I cherish the coin, which she indicated was mine to keep or pass along as I saw fit, as a reminder of the cache.

A few weeks ago I was hiking at “Wallace Falls State Park” near Seattle, WA on the recommendation of a friend. There are 4 or 5 caches in the park but due to printing errors, I only had enough information to hunt two and one had been muggled based on information from the owner in response to my DNF.

Anyway, There were multiple trails in the park and I decided to do basically a loop…

The first 2ish miles were on a continually uphill railgrade from a long-vanished logging railroad, complete with some railway switchbacks. At the end of the line, there was a quarter mile or so nearly vertical drop to another trail – the “Woody Trail”. From here I had a choice, go left and hike about 2.25 miles up a mountain to view several falls (one cache I was hunting was at the middle falls). Then 2.25 miles back down to the junction and another 1.5 miles out to the trailhead, with a quarter mile detour to hunt the muggled cache .5 miles from the car.

I left my car in the lot the whole time. The next morning I was really really glad that all I had to do was take a shower and get on the plane home… I did not enjoy walking through SEA-TAC. I did very much enjoy the accomplishment of hiking 8 miles through some strenuous mountain terrain and seeing four beautiful waterfalls, one over 260 feet!

Hang in there and leave your car behind more often!

I guess I was TOO FAR from civilization Sunday if lack of GPRS is the differentiating factor. I did only see a dozen campers and about 8 hikers all day though. My cell phone still had a signal on the Pacific Crest Trail but my blackberry didn’t have GPRS or GSM signal. I was surprised at the lack of GSM…

Imagine my surprise when it started snowing while I was out hunting caches Sunday. Of course I was slightly higher in elevation than my ‘hood… I wasn’t at all disappointed that my flight got out of Milwaukee Saturday noon without any storm delays 😉

Was on the TV news this morning too. Made me think of all the times I head out into the mountains alone when I visit Seattle each June. I’ve found myself in more than a few places where I probably shouldn’t have been alone, but I doubt I’ll ever stop. I leave next Saturday…

Well, today I walked the Root River trail with my cub scouts and we were pelted by snow/ice crystals the entire time. What a change.

Amen Brother! Um, wait a minute, Amen Neighbor! No, that’s not it, how about Amen ex-Neighbor, longtime acquaintence and fellow scouter and geocacher!

(No disrespect intended toward Uncle Fun’s brothers, neighbors, etc..)

I believe that I brought a bug called Yellow TB Express or something similar to this area from the west coast. Its goal was to race from somewhere out west to somewhere else out west by putting at least 3000 miles or so on its map along the way.

I made arrangements to drop it in the Hotel in Waukesha – cool, I didn’t know it existed, new find – for someone heading to Vegas to take along. Lo and behold, the bug hasn’t left the area and is back in the hotel a few days ago, nearly a year after I tried to help it win its race. Shame on all of you who have impeded its progress!

The only thing that comes to mind is a horrible memory of a family that went cross-country skiing for a few hours with infant in a baby-back-pack and the infant froze. Otherwise I have no personal experience or useful suggestions. We weren’t very adventurous with our infants, both born in the winter.
