Loved Kungfuhippie’s analogy. Perfect!!! As Judy Judy would say.
I guess I feel like the two previous loggers. I think after someone has put the effort into doing the entire series holding back the candy is kind of mean. If the entire series was Premium that would be OK.
I don’t want my caches to only get found by the “elite” but we do use the PMO option if we have had a cache muggled or outright stolen as has happened with our Portage and Wisconsin Dells caches. Some were taken several times until we made them PMO then moved the container to a slightly different location. It has just about completely solved the problem of theft. We probably have about 25 of 130 caches PMO for that reason.
Add our voices to the chorus of congratulations. Keep finding fun things to do together and help each other up the hills and down the trail.
When I titled this thread “what will kill the game” I meant that if COs become disgusted with the response they get to their hides they will quit hiding. If no one hides caches there will be nothing to find. There are a lot of good hides out there and they deserve to be acknowledged as such. No one who hides a crappy cache is going to complain about the log they get. I hope that the TFTC crowd will tire of the game and fade away or finally get what this game can offer and change their ways.
Timberland Echo points out an important aspect of this game. To be as inclusive as we can. We enjoy a nice walk and length is not to much of an issue yet. Uphill is another matter. We also enjoy taking our elderly mothers along for an outing. They enjoy a nice ride and cemeterys are a good choice when they are along. As far as park and grabs go we have several but we try to put them in a significant spot, either pretty or historic. We also try for a clever hide. I guess we will let some of our caches go and hold on to the ones that are near and dear to our hearts. Higher gas prices make maintenance runs eat into our caching funds. Oh well, thanks for all the feedback and the slurping sound you hear is team sloughfoot sucking it up. See you all on the trail.
We did not even get a “.” on one recent log. On 4/23 we received a log for GCV96H one of our “TOTS” caches. It is still out there if you would like to see it. It has nothing except a photo. The photo shows the cache spread out with the log visable. I’m glad it wasn’t raining or we would now have a “Maintenance Required” for a wet log. We sent the visitor a private message explaining why we hide caches and asking for a better log the next time. It was from a new cacher so we hope they will get better at logging.
No Beccaday, some caches are just numbers caches and the COs know this and don’t expect much. I guess I try to at least say something about the day I am having or some small observation, just to acknowledge the experience. I hate to sound so negative on an activity we enjoy so much. As another example. We spent the day at Devils lake doing 2 caches on the ice age trail. These are by hotdogsoffthetrail and Rocklady03. They were a great walk up a trail that was just difficult enough for two old guys like us. It was a beautiful day with the wildflowers coming out on a pretty rocky stream. The cachers ahead of us logged. TFTC. That really set us off.
Congrats on the 3K. I enjoyed reading your log and photos. See ya at the Cattail event later today.
Sloughfoot made a big pot of chili and Mrs. S added a loaf of beer bread. Nachos for later too.
I have heard of a mouse gun but never a tick gun. Lets see, wouldn’t your skin be the backstop?
I use several different loads for the 45 acp, sometimes I like to just try new things.
I have a Colt in which I shoot cast 230 gr rn bullets using 5.5gr of WIN231 powder. I always use Rem 2.5 primers. You can usually get the cast bullets at gun shows pretty reasonable.
I also have a Glock in which you aren’t supposed to shoot cast bullets so I use 230 gr clad or jacketed bullets and 4.0 gr of Sporting Clays shotgun powder.
I have a very nice Browning Hi-Power 9mm with a black slide and a stainless bottom that will shoot just about anything you put in it. I have used WIN231, Unique and I have even used Hi Skor 700X shotgun powder with good results.
I don’t load anything that isn’t in the load manuals or possibly someones favorite loads from a shooting magazine.
Congrats on the #3200 Dave.
Congrats on the milestone Lisa. It sounds like it was an appropriate cache, at least one you will remember for a long time.
My preference would be for the CO to state how far the hike is then everyone is forewarned. Some days I feel like a longer walk than others and the weather is a real consideration.
it is now 34 degrees and raining hard. What a day.
