Hi Folks
Thanks for all of the pats on the back. There are cachers with much bigger numbers but we thoroughly enjoy each one that we do.Gotta Run is wondering about our name, a sentence from our Public Profile will explain, and no it is not a hockey move. They could use footage of Sloughfoot ice skating on Americas Funniest Video’s and I would have to change it to “Slewfoot”.
** Sloughfoot’s Name **
Team Sloughfoot (pronounced Slewfoot) owns a cottage on a piece of water called “The Big Slough”. You would guess that it had something to do with water.2008 was pretty much a year off for us as Mrs Sloughfoot’s mother went through a rough period but she is doing well and still likes to go with us when we cache.
2009 has been the year for “maintenance required” we have about 105 active caches including the most found cache in Wisconsin “Dam Pretty View #1 GC79B3. We have been plaqued with thefts in the Dells/Portage area and so have been busy replacing and making those caches members only. I have three that need attention yet again.
But we will keep hiding and finding and enjoying all of the meet & greets and all the fine folks we meet on the trail and I’m sure the numbers will creep up slowly. Everyone have a great end of summer and fall caching experience and keep hitting those Sloughfoot caches.
John & GailCongrats BQ on the 10K. Thats a lot of poison ivy!
Congrats Jim & Linda on the 1800th. We too have been working on and off on the MIB cache for about two years. According to Jim we have been real close to the final ourselves. Might try to get back there while big Jim’s tracks are still around!
The usual assortment of scratches, bite, bruises, poison ivy more then once but nothing that has required a doctor visit. Most of my mishaps seem to involve the assortment of electronics that I carry. I have been known to get diverted between computer service calls to find a cache or two.
I lost my company pager in the wayside just south of Laona but I made note of it in my log and about a week later Wheezer, Little Wheezer and Goofy2 found it and I got it back. On the same trip near Laona I almost got my white company Honda Civic stuck way off road. When I got back to Laona there was a big puddle right where US 8 and Hwy 32 come together so I made a few laps right in the intersection to get some of the mud off.
I found a cell phone in a park in Appleton. Turns out it was my own and I didn’t know I had lost it. Good thing I followed the same route out that I had gone in on. It was also company property.
I have lost the GPS60CSX at least twice. Once on a steep slope in Devils Lake Park where we were all sliding downhill on our butts. Took about 30min to find it. The second time was last winter while I was looking for a place to put a cache. That time took over 45 minutes to find.
So far it hasn’t cost much other then some wasted time.
You take a cache away from an Easter Egg hunter that found it by mistake.
It happened Easter Sunday when Team Sloughfoot and the 2OlFarts were looking for Scribners Mill which had gone missing. There was a hunt going on about 100′ from GZ and a guy was holding up a camo pill bottle when we walked by. 2OF intercepted it and we put it back where we thought it came from.
04/07/2009 at 1:11 am in reply to: CommanderUSN Sails the Seven Seas, and Scores his 1000th! #1905209Congratulations Steve. Always good to see you at the M&G’s. Lots more caches out there to build that count and motorcycle weather is coming. Hope to see you soon.
Team SloughfootThanks everyone for the congrats. We keep plodding along at our own pace. This time of year it seems like we get the urge to plant a few so we did that. Our new series is the GPS series that Pete mentioned. It stands for GravelPitSeries and there are now 7 of them, with 5 still waiting for a FTF’r. We hope to hit 2K by the end of the summer. First we need to get past the muddy spring. Happy caching everyone and we will see you all at a M&G or out on the trail.
John & GailCongrats from Team Sloughfoot to Team DigiFu. Looks like a great spot to be married and our best for your future together from John & Gail
Team Sloughfoot has had the same problem in the Wisconsin Dells area.
Two of our caches have been repeatedly stolen. We finally made them premium caches and will see if that helps. Maybe the game has had so much publicity that it has now attracted the attention of trouble makers.Hey Dave
Congrats on becoming a “Tonner” keep on going. Thanks all for the nice comments.
One of the nunsontherun was my sister before she became a sister to all the rest of the world. When we were growing up in a large family it was cheap to go for a ride, gas was about .17 a gallon. I guess we both still like to go for a ride. I know the nuns have enjoyed the DeLorme challenge and the County challenge as much as Mrs Sloughfoot and I.
We will find another way to put some mles on. Lets see, there is a Cabela’s out in Sidney Nebraska that has the sharpest fish hooks…..
John
Way to go Keith
Why are we generating two posts when we reply to a message?
This is a northern brown water snake. We have more than we need at our cottage on the Big Slough. They are quite aggressive and will bite the heck out of you if given the chance. Nonpoisoness thank god. They are also known as Sloughfoots nemisis.
