Looks cool! I’ll have to check it out the next time I’m up that way.

in reply to: How many of you Winter cache? #1897791

One big plus for winter caching is NO TICKS!!!!! Or other annoying insects. I started caching in the winter, but fortunately that winter there wasn’t a lot of snow. If I had started last winter, I’m not sure I would have kept going. Still my wife gave me snowshoes for one holiday or another last winter and I’m hoping to get more use out of them this year caching (I was sick a lot this last winter)! I try to keep a close eye on whether a cache is winter friendly or watch to see if anyone else has found it since the last snowfall. Even so, I’ve gone out and trekked a half mile through the snow and not been able to find the cache and still thoroughly enjoyed myself!

A great map to use is World 66 – http://www.world66.com/myworld66/visitedStates. You can select the states visited and they give you the html to put in your bug’s description. Once its in the description its easy to add more states – no need to go back to World 66 each time a new state is added. To see how the map would look you can check out my TB Forest Four Wheelin’

    Thanks,

That’s exactly what I was looking for!

in reply to: Deleting finds #1887361

I have had very good responses on my only EC (in Wausau). I did have one person log a find without emailing me recently. I waited a week to give the person time. I emailed them asking for answers. Waited another week – no response. I went to the cache page to delete their log and found it was gone! They must have deleted it themselves.

I have a couple of ideas for ideas for more EC’s near me, but haven’t gotten around to doing them. When I first did mine, it was the only EC within 50 miles. Since then Bandits created three new EC’s near me that I still need to go out and do.

    Lorrie,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having to slow down on geocaching.

I’ve sent you an e-mail with a list of Wood and Adams Counties caches I am willing to adopt.

As with most of the others, it depends on the date, time, and place, but I would definitely try to fit it into the schedule and be willing to drive a reasonable distance.

Thanks! That’s it. This time, I’ve bookmarked it so hopefully I won’t lose it.

How much is a starter kit? Maybe I need some GPS coordinates, but I don’t see a price anywhere.

    I e-mailed my Representative.
I’ll let you know what response I get if any.

Thanks for the heads up on the Red Jeep. I’ve been under the weather since my trip south (7-8 weeks of bronchitis). I’ve finally kicked it, but now my wife has it (although we’ve already started her on the antibiotics that helped me finally). Anyway, I haven’t done much caching lately and probably won’t for a few weeks. I’ve added it to my watch list. We’re hoping to come to the La Crosse area for a weekend jaunt in August. If so, I may have to go hunting for it on may way through.

The shuttle launch was great! Too short, though.

    What’s your time frame?

My wife and I just returned from a month in Florida helping our son’s family after his wife broke her ankle very badly. We’ve both contracted some sort of nasty bronchitis bug.

I would love to help, but I don’t think I could until August. Let me know if you need help then. I also have some friends who are new to the game that may also be interested in helping.

I am really sorry to hear that geocoins are disappearing. I love to find and, when appropriate, move them around.

I was in Georgia last month and drove down to Florida to watch a shuttle launch. Of course I cached down and back. I stopped at the Florida welcome center on I-95 and happened upon a cacher and her grandson looking for the cache in the woods. We joined forces since the coordinates were a bit off and the clue was ‘near the base of a large tree’. The coordinates put us in the middle of a forest with the trees all relatively the same size. We started a spiral search and found the cache 30′ from ground zero according to my GPSr, 60′ from hers.

The cache was new and had been liberally stocked with TBs. I found the one I was interested in (one whose goal was compatible with my travel plans). The woman and her grandson each grabbed one also, but he made a comment that gave me pause. I made a casual comment like, you know that’s a travel bug, don’t you? His response was ‘What’s that?’ I gave a quick lesson on travel bugs, but I still wonder if the one he took (and the one she took?) were ever moved along.

Now if I could just find a Red Jeep 😉

    Okay, I feel a bit convicted. 😕

I have often posted something to the effect: been there – found it – thanks and God bless.

Like many others, here, though, my logs reflect the nature of the visit. If I enjoyed the cache or if something unusual happened, I usually log to that effect.

I guess this is an area where being a relative noobie (since late December ’06), I wasn’t aware people were really interested in how my visit was other than condition of the cache and what not.

I will certainly endeavor to write more about my visits.

I too use paper instead of a PDA (even before I broke the screen on my PDA and write notes to help myself remember, especially things like what I put in or took out or whether I chose a poor direction and pushed my way through a bunch of sticker bushes.

in reply to: Anybody up to a Meet & Greet? #1872775

The event hasn’t been published, yet.

What time are you shooting for?

We have plans that day, but may be able to stop by for a while.

    I enjoyed the caches there.
