This will work for youtube. You need to use firefox though.
Just for downloading, or is this also for replaying? I don’t know that I will have access to Firefox at the location where I want to play the videos.
It will download the video from youtube to your pc. Unfortunately, the file type that it downloads is not compatible with windows media player. They give you the link to download a free program that will convert the original dowloaded file to wmv format (windows media player compatible).
If you used this method you could always save the videos to a jump drive and bring them to wherever you needed to play them. That way you could download them on a computer where you have access to firefox and bring them to a pc where you can’t add firefox.
The most we have done in one day is 39. We did that last year when we were in the Milwaukee area to see the Pistons play the Bucks in the playoffs. That day we only cached from 8AM to 4PM or so, because we had to get ready for the game. Looking back, we would have had no trouble getting to 50 if we would have cached all day.
I remember when we first started, we tried and tried to do 20 in a day and just couldn’t do it. The best we could do for a long time was 17. Then once we broke 20 for the first time we started doing it pretty frequently. After a certain point of experience caching, we were able to start locating the caches much quicker once we arrived at the spot and were able to do more caches in a day.

Thanks
Fu
I am looking forward to meeting all of you that are thinking about coming up.
FYI, Lynn and I went out yesterday afternoon and hid 4 new caches in Escanaba, which are yet to be published as of yet, so keep your pocket queries up to date. I am hoping to get out this week and hide a few more, but I will have to see what the week brings.
Also, our Little Bay de Noc View cache will be activated by the weekend. I stopped by yesterday to put out the container, but I brought the wrong container and was unable to rehide it because of that. It will be good to go by the weekend though.
One more thing. I have been talking with 2_UP_Geologists (event hosts) about the event. They have made a last minute decision to include a door prize table. We will be donating a fully stocked and camouflauged container and an unactivated tb dog tag. We also have one other idea, but I am not sure if we will be able to do it or not. If anyone has anything they would like to donate for a prize table, please bring it along!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Here are some of the cooler caches (IMO) in the Escanaba area (on the first 2 pages of search for zip 49829). Also, please bear in mind that several of the area caches are ours, so I will include them in the list.
Little Bay de Noc View is a fairly unique hide on Lake Michigan (this is our cache and it will be active before the event). ** Disclaimer – Our Cache
Peer From Here unique cache container with a nice view of the lake.
A Nice Walk On Aronson Island offers nice views of the lake and takes you to the public beach. **Disclaimer – our cache
Lookout!!! brings you to the Escanaba River and the third dam. ** Disclaimer – our cache
Remembering Portage Point if you only do one cache in the area on your trip up here, this is the cache to do in my opinion.
Escanaba River Portage Pretty spot along the Escanaba River, takes you to the canoe portage for the 2nd dam
Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot takes you to a unique spot.
Finally!!! A Decisive Voter Nice hide at the Gladstone Sports Park
Phantom of a Collage Road Trip Unique hide in the area, very near the Decisive Voter cache
Bored, go for a walk very pretty walk along Lake Michigan in Gladstone
Get Up, Get Out Of Here, Gone, A Home Run! Unique hide to the area, if the weather stays like it is I will have it active in time for the event. ** Disclaimer – Our cache
Ring Around The Days Nice walk in the woods along the Days River
Perronville IMO this is in a very interesting location. ** Disclaimer – Our cache
Inland Island A very neat boat launch in Rapid River
Roscoe Pratt Memorial Cache Very unique hide, a fun one to hunt. There are a few other caches in Escanaba and there is only one parking lot cache in town. Any of the other caches in Escanaba will probably not dissapoint. There are also quite a few caches in Gladstone.
Please note that I left out caches that are on the first two pages of 49829 because they are on the other side of the bay. If you decide to take a ride over there (Stonington Peninsula) it is a very pretty area.
Also, you can’t go wrong hitting any of the caches along M35 on the lakeshore.
Hope to see you there!

Very interested in going to your meet and Greet. Would also be interested in coming up on Saturday, and doing some caches. Are there any good caches around the Meet and Greet site?
Justin
Cool, I am glad to hear that you are interested on coming up, although it is not actually my event…but I will be there! There are some very nicely done caches around the Escanaba area, but the terrain in this area isn’t particularly difficult (not like Marquette or Copper Country caches, it is just a flat area). I will think about it and try to come up with a possible list of caches for you.
Here read the tutorial at this link. I used this to get myself set up and found it very helpful.

EDIT: BTW, purchasing GSAK is very worth the cost of the progam. Good luck
I was looking through the list quickly. I can’t believe there aren’t more Marinette County caches on the list. Quite a few of our favorites have been in northeastern Marinette Co. Basically, we enjoyed every lil’ otter cache we have done up that way, the only drawback to them is that they are almost all micros….but they are in fine locations. Specifically here are a few caches we liked…
Letterman Tripped GC2E9A
52-Pickup – WWF #25 (Long Slide Falls) GCG5R4
52-Pickup – WWF #26 (Pemene Falls) GCG5QW
52-Pickup – WWF #31 (Sturgeon Falls) GCG5RD
52-Pickup – WWF #32 Horseshoe Falls) GC858B
52-Pickup – WWF #29 (Smalley Falls) GCG5R9A couple of other caches we have bookmarked because we enjoyed them are..
City Park – Marinette GCNEA5
Arboretum Adventure GCH693Lynn and I are not into the coin fad…so I voted for the t-shirt. I always like having different types of shirts, so I think that would be the way to go in my opinion. However, if I collected coins I think I would rather get a coin than a t-shirt.
This all sounds very neat, thank you for all the updates Timberline Echoes! We look forward to finding time to get back over to north central Wisconsin caching.

All right… new question. Does anyone have a program (that is assuming that one exists) that will take a pdf file and work backwords and turn it back into some other type of file so that I can get the HWS logo off of it and use if for the new newsletters?
If you are just looking to take the graphic off the pdf image, the easiest thing to do may be to get a screen capture program. With this type of program you can select an area of your screen and save it as a picture file (JPEG, Bitmap, whatever). This would probably work for what you are describing. I use snag it, but it was preloaded on my work pc…I don’t believe it is free. There is free screen grab software out there, but I can’t really vouch for any of them.
I believe Open Office has a program that is comparible to publisher. If you were to open the files in the open office suite, you have the option to export your project as a pdf file.
Open office is free and available at http://www.openoffice.org
This may work for what you are doing.

Just a word of caution for any Lowrance users out there. There has been issues with using anything other Sandisk SD cards with some Lowrance units. I now for sure that there has been issues with the iFinder series. I have never tried anything other then a Sandisk so I can’t give firsthand info. The people that have tried other cards seem to be Knowledgeable and I have no reason to believe they are incorrect in their experiences. There has been some discussions with Lowrance and they seem to backup this info. No direct reason why, there just seems to be some sort of compatibility issue. This doesn’t make sense to me however it seems to be a real issue.
I have run into problems with 1 memory card that I wanted to use for my lowrance Ifinder. I couldn’t get it to work with the gps, but it worked with my camera. Finally, I noticed that the metalic pieces (connectors) were not flush with the end of the memory card, but all the other cards I had were flush. I think that may have been the problem. Maybe the connectors in the gps are a little bit off, which could cause the problem.
I typically browse the north central and northeast forums when I see new posts. Mainly because we cache frequently in the northeast and occasionally in the north central areas.
