I don’t see any problem with setting up an account for your son in that fashion. As previously stated, just make sure to log very clearly what you are doing and why.

Mine shows 1/1/2000 as the first find as well.
LonesumDove, it uses your logs on GC.com to compute the statistics. 😥
I got 1/1/2000 as the first find also, but other than that it was very cool to play around with…keep up the good work!
There is a known problem with the Palm M100 series when you change the batteries. I have a M105 and have to make sure that I have enough battery power to last through a day of caching. You can read more about it HERE
I found it also helped me tremendously when I viewed the link using IE. I typically use firefox. Very cool, though.
So far only one person gave me some caches in the Michigan forums…here is their post.
“This one in Illinois was a nice little break on I-80
Ghost Stories: Father Kellen Ryan memorial – GCGZJ9 Near Joiliett
Ghostly Outlets – GCPTE6 Ohio past Sandusky exit
Zichefoose – GCPC8X A little north of the outlets
Toledo is one of my favorite places to cache. They will have no trouble filling any time they have. I can think of 10-12 within a 1 miles radius of the intersection of I-80 and US-23.
the main problem with getting off I-80 in Ohio to cache, is that you pay an extra toll.
If I were routing, after leaving Toledo, I would take the Hwy that goes along lake Erie Is it 8 or 2? I would take that at least to Sandusky, probibly all the way to Cleveland. Lots of nice caching along that route. A prettier drive and no tolls.”
I personally haven’t cached in any of the areas you are visiting. But I have posted in the Michigan forums asking for help to find caches in the area that you are visiting. I would think that they should be able to point you to some caches in the Indiana-Ohio part of your trip, and in Toledo. I will repost once I have found out more from them.
Thanks for the good idea…I am new to making bookmark lists, I was just playing around with it a few weeks ago. I looked at your lists, and see some things that I now want to change with mine.
I recently made up a couple of lists kind of like this to follow U.S. 2 through the U.P. I have 2 lists, Irowood to Escanaba and St. Ignace to Escanaba if you are interested. Probably not as big a deal that I created these lists b/c it is not freeway, but I was bored at work one day, and I figured it would entertain me in the future. I did make sure to comment on every cache that we have done, to give travelers an idea of what the challenge may be. Here they are…
Let’s see if I can get this to work…

Edit: Trying to get my pic to load.

I know someone who had quite a few cache hides (approx. 10)in a small city. Last fall 9 of their 10 hides came up muggled. The only cache that wasn’t muggled was a puzzle cache. This spring she put out 2 more caches, and they were both muggled within the first week. It doesn’t seem like this is happening to any of the other caches in the area, so she is very frustrated. It looks like she will try to do a few more puzzle caches and try to do a members only cache. She figures then at least someone would have to either work or pay to steal her cache hides. It really stinks that something like this has to happen.
Edit: b/c I didn’t make sense

Well, up here in the U.P. we have only 653 unfiltered and 574 filtered…of course we have a whole lot of water within a 100 miles of the Escanaba area, but a good portion of those caches are in Wisconsin. We had a great 3 day caching trip down in Green Bay last weekend when we went to the NCAA hockey tourney at the Resch Center.
Before we moved to the U.P. in January, we had 2,436 unfiltered and 2,134 when we filtered out finds and owned in the Mt. Pleasant area (the central lower peninsula of Mich)
That stinks that something like that would happen. Kudos to you on time, effort, and $$ that you put into the project. Keep up the good work
Welcome to everyone! Hopefully you will find this activity as fun and rewarding as Lynn and I do.
+1, I spent a lot of time hand entering coords for big trips before I found a way to import waypoints to the GPS…not fun.
You bet I will mention the Rock Island event at the meet & greet in Esky. Since turnabout is fair play, I will also mention this event and post a link for the event in the events forum at the Michigan Geocaching Organization website. I know that there are at least a few members in the central U.P.
