I agree, a muggler sounds like somebody who would resemble the hamburgler only in real life –
Funny, that is exactly what I thought of when I saw the term Muggler.

If I ask someone to be my friend, where does it show up? Anybody know?
If you click the add as a friend button, you are prompted to send them a short message through email to add them as a friend.
Once they are added you get a small business card like box with their profile pic, user name, joined date, last visited date, and found and placed stats.
This is a nice feature because it will make contacting people I frequently contact a little bit easier by eliminating the need to search for them.
Agreed, thanks for sharing the trick!
We have 2 Lowrance IFinders and love them. We *almost* never have problems with losing reception under trees and they are inexpensive enough that we don’t mind beating up on them. The first unit we purchased in 2002 or 2003. We began geocaching in June 2005 and it has been with us for just over 1,100 caching finds and still operates almost like new. The 2nd unit we purchased in August 2005 and has been with us for almost 1,000 finds and still runs just like when we bought it. We have never had to have either one serviced for anything. We highly recommend checking into Lowrance units.
The downside is that they will not do autorouting for you, but we prefer to plan our own routes out as we go. The MapCreate package of maps for Lowrance does an excellent job at mapping out just about all of the roads correctly. We cache up here in the UP and northern Wis very frequently, and it almost always has even the little 2 track woods roads shown on the gps, it is quite handy.

Just as a piece of info… I am a member in good standing of the Michigan Geocaching Assoc (MiGO).
You are correct, you are a member in good standing with MiGO, but you are not a voting member. A “member” in MiGO is the equivalent of being a “friend” in the WGA. A “voting member” in MiGO is the equivalent of being a “member” in the WGA.

Section 2. Membership
Active Member. Membership in MiGO shall remain open to all interested persons who support the goals as described in the Mission Statement. Each applicant for membership shall be required to register online at the MiGO website, thereby providing the Organization with name, address, phone, email address and geocaching alias, as well as other information deemed necessary for contact and identification of a candidate. Once the applicant has provided the above information, the applicant shall be considered a member of MiGO.Voting Member. Any Active Member who is at least 18 years of age and a resident of the State of Michigan will be eligible to vote.

Some states make it pretty easy to sign up. Is this just to jump their numbers? But it would water down their memberships as well.
Basically, (in my mind) both organizations work the same way, they only allow citizens of the state the organization represents to vote in the elections and have a say in how the organization is run. They both allow people who reside outside of the given state’s borders to log in and use the features of the web site (which I greatly appreciate since we cache so often in WI). The only difference is in the terminology used.
I do know that when MiGO approaches organizations about partnerships, they use the voting member (equivalent of WGA Member) numbers, not the active member (equivalent of WGA Friend) numbers.
I can’t speak for what is done in the Florida association.

I do like the point that right now, the way we have it in the WGA, it can be stated that WGA truly represents WISCONSIN GeoCachers. Per my personal experience, neither Michigan or Florida can make that claim…
I vehemently disagree with you on this point, for reasons outlined in my above posting.
Wow, cached all day Saturday near Mountain and Crivitz and didn’t see any ticks. Guess it won’t be much longer until they are out in full force in our neck of the woods, thanks for the heads up!

A question for those out-of-state residents-
In your opinion, why is it important that you be allowed to become a registered member of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association?
Personally I don’t feel it is important for us to be full voting members of the WGA. I don’t feel that I should have a vote in the WGA elections, just as none of you should have a vote in the Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO) elections.
Since moving to the Upper Peninsula, about 1/2 our finds are in Wisconsin. If you take away a week long caching trip we took downstate last summer I would have to think that definitely more than 1/2 our finds have been in WI since moving up here. That being said, we definitely have a great interest in the state of caching in Wisconsin. I don’t see us completing the DeLorme challenge. For some reason, it just doesn’t excite me that much (which is weird because finding a cache in each county of the state is a goal of ours). I was just looking at the map tonight, and I figure we could accomplish that goal in 4 or 5 weekends.
This is something that we would be interested in attending as well, depending on when it is. 😀
Our goal at the end of last year was to find a cache in every county in the state of Wisconsin. We already have all the counties along the east side done, and figured with some well planned trips we could get it done and see some areas of the state we had not visited before. After finding out in December that we are going to have a baby we have amended our goals quite a bit, and they don’t include travelling quite that much. 😆

but I remember hearing something that a single cacher placing a string along a trail in this fashion was going to be frowned upon.
Yeah, because doing that is way worse than placing a skirt lifter or guard rail cache 😕

The 5 new caches that we hid in Escanaba on Sunday have been approved…make sure to update your pocket queries!
Actually there was suppose to be “6” 😉 😉 😉
Any info on my prize…Esky – FTF. I keep checking but nothing yet!! Just wondering.. no hurry!!
Fu
I know, it has taken a little bit longer than usual to get approved this time…I hid one yesterday that is awaiting approval as well.
Fu, I was debating on whether or not that was a cool prize for an event. Did you think it was worthwhile, or kind of dumb?
Ticks are about the only reason we miss living in the lower peninsula vs. upper peninsula. When we lived downstate (near Lansing) in Michigan we cached an entire summer without ever finding a tick. Up here you can’t hardly mow the grass without finding one. Growing up near Escanaba, I have several friends who contracted lyme disease while we were in high school. 🙁

That was a great Meet and Greet. I think almost everyone left with something as well. I do beleive there were more Wisconsinites then yoopers though!!!
Thanks guys for putting it on… If you have one again Next year, I will be there.
Justin
You are probably right that there may have been more cheeseheads than Yoopers there. It was kind of odd though, there were 3 or 4 teams from the Yoop that were there briefly and left before most of the rest of you got there. Almost like 2 seperate events…lol. Thanks for coming up!
Congratulations Justin, way to go!
I had to laugh when reading all your logs Marc. I could really tell that you are a cheesehead…we are Yoopers…not Yuppers. 😆
Hey, I just wanted to say I enjoyed meeting all you cheesheads that made the trip up here to da UP, eh? I hope you all had as much fun coming up to visit and caching in the area as we had meeting you all!
