    Way to go Rsplash!

Does the kegger count as the last cache of the day? If so we will be there leading the pack.

Forgot to congrats you on a job well done! Way to go guys.

Should Geocachers as a whole, carry a “sharpie” along with them, and as we find caches that are not labeled simply write “Geocache” on them? It would seem that something as simple as this might have prevented the NFDL incident.

Obviously some common sense will be required but many of the caches out there could be quickly and easily labeled and therefore more readily identified.

You might try looking at his geocaching profile to see if he has attended any event caches. You could contact others that attended the same event and have met him. Maybe get a “reference” or two.

The BoB series is not difficult at all. It’s just something you need to do. Do 1 or do all 99. The series is so talked about and so close you just have to see what it’s all about. The caches are not simply every .1 mile apart, some are close to that, but we took a tour of the north side of Chicago that led us to some beautiful suburbs. One house we passed had a lawn that was cut like a putting green!

Robin & I did them in about 5 hours – just two of us. We also used DeLorme to navigate. Did the series just after a heavy rain/wind storm. Kept a clipboard handy to take notes of the BoB’s that needed maintenance, something Hutt & Loci appreciated. There was only one that we really had to look for. Typically we would guess (correctly) where each one was as we drove up to ground zero.

Signing is probably the most time consuming aspect of the series. Dated stickers are a must (or some other way to sign the logs). Avery 5667 return address labels worked great and can be trimmed to minimize the size. We got 4 stickers out of each label. The log “sheets” are rigid enough that a stamp could also be used quickly and easily.

It’s not about the numbers??? Sometimes it is. If your goal is to boost your stats, this series will do it. If you want to set a personal best for the number of caches you do in a day, this series will do it. If you want to find over 100 caches in a day, this series will (help) do it.

Have fun with it, I don’t care why you do it, it’s just fun. If you go let us know, we might just tag along for part of the trip then go off to get some other caches on our own.

in reply to: 6000 miles of geocaching #1767732

We were going to start doing the travel bug tracking with Bear Bear, but it seems to be a lot of work. If I’m doing it correctly, first you log your cache as usual, then you must log your bug in, then out of the cache. We thought this was a neat idea and a great way to log the miles you spent caching. However we just decided to do this and going back to log 300+ caches it turns out to be very time consuming.

Then we discovered It’s not about the numbers stats (Thanks Jim).

In the “It’s not about the numbers stats” it has an “Approximate cache-to-cache distance:”
Ours is shown as: 14,357.4 miles (23106 kilometres) this Excludes locationless and known traveling caches.

I’m not sure exactly how it calculates this number but for comparisons sake it could be used to accurately(?) measure your distance versus another cacher because it would calculate everyones miles the same way.

    Food for thought anyway.

in reply to: Want to BUY Delorme Street Atlas #1766797

I have uses delorme street atlas for the last 5 years now. Love it! Well worth the cost at best buy(about 100). Plus if you purchase the program some will have a gps in them. Again well worth it. In fact this is how we started caching with a laptop and gps. Found about 20 caches before I got tired of carrying the laptop.

We use gsak as a our cache source. From there I import a draw file to delorme. Now I have all links and locations in delorme for caches. If you have a wireless internet you can access the cache page on the road by simply clicking on the link in Delorme.

Delorme does have the ability to upload to palms. I have not played with that function as my palm will not sync with my new computer. (New toys that require technical help!)

Thanks guys! We really enjoy hiding and coming up with different or unusual hides. I am glad other cachers are getting enjoyment and sometimes frustration from them.

I’m not a veteran cruise affectionado (sp?), but I have gone on a couple, but not a Caribbean cruise.

In June of ’06 we went around Hawaii, Hawaii was great, Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) stunk! I would not recommend them to anyone. I can share details if your really interested.

In June of ’05 we went on an Alaskan cruise with Holland America Lines (HAL) and they were great, a terrific company to sail with! Easter time – when you want to see warm weather might not be the time to go looking at glaciers.

It seems that there are many virtual and web cam caches in the ports we sailed into.

Have fun, congrat’s on 30 years, and happy holiday’s.

in reply to: Unite for Diabetes Travel Bugs #1767358

3 out of 5 members of Team Bear Bear have Diabetes. We all feel fortunate that, if we are going to have a disease it’s best to have one you can control. We are thrilled to see awareness being raised in a “sport” that we have come to love in the last 8 month’s. Caching has become a great way to get out and get some exercise as we walk looking for hides

We received our travel bug last week. Its destination is Somesta, Egypt. We will be sending it on it’s way soon.
