I only put caches I think are too dangerous on my ignore list, such as cache involving climbing dead trees.

When I first looked at these maps, I thought “They are allowing hunting in the campgrounds???” Then I saw the legend, where the grey area equals closed. The few I looked at all seem to have limited hunting to the rarely used areas. (We are the rare users!)

The reality is that your D/T rating are yours (as a CO) to do with what you want. You can change it every day and no one from Groundspeak will care. Now, admittedly, you might catch some flack from people in these forums, but something tells me that you wouldn’t mind.

I would say that I spend most of my caching time in areas open to hunting (state recreation areas and state forests) and have never had a problem. I do stay away the week of Thanksgiving (too many drunks and “once in a while” hunters), but other than that I’ve never had a problem. Just pick up an orange hat or vest and you will be fine. You are probably more likely to get attacked by a bear than to get shot by a hunter looking for waterfowl, small game, or pheasants. The deer hunters do worry me a bit, but the amateurs go back to their couches after the first week or so.

Hehe, if they put the info for that virtual in a book, it would be a REALLY comprehensive book!

I’d rather we spend our time making the site automatically lock threads with no comments for two years or more. 🙂

Hmm, if you allow virtual logging on a travel bug, you risk having it locked, not so with a cache apparently.

Actually, you very much risk having your earthcache/virtual/webcam being archived if you don’t check the logs. Eventually someone will complain about it and then we start looking at all the caches logged by the armchair logger. This is enforced much more often than the rule against virtual travel bug logging. Owning a virtual is a lot more complicated than a normal listing.

Yes, but if we told you about it, we would have to kill you.

Actually, this is really a legitimate question. That attribute does not refer to the old locationless caches from years ago. This is new technology, where someone builds a box that is hidden in one place, but will only open in another location. The other location is determined by the finder by either a puzzle or some other electronic circuitry in the box. Because this is very unusual, a special attribute for these is required.

This intrigues me, it sounds very interesting. Any out there in Wisconsin that you are aware of?

I don’t believe so. I’m also not finding the attribute anymore, but could swear it was added to the system. The two I have heard about are in Europe. I’d suggest asking on geocaching.com forums if you are interested in building one.

Actually Todd is referring to the initial puzzle on the cache page. Obviously we would be glad to help you with that part.

Why is (new locationless (reverese) cache) a option for instant notification?
    since they are no more.

If you set up your coin as “collectible” it means that no one else can grab it into their inventory. I also think you cannot drop it in a cache (but it can “visit” caches without being dropped.) Note that you can change this status as needed.

Interesting that these actually end up “owned” by the person receiving. I would have thought they would remain owned by the company (like Jeeps or the diabetes promotions.)

The point of this is that puzzle is no longer solvable as designed by the CO. In fact, the method used to solve the puzzle now is MUCH simpler than was originally intended. I suspect this cache will be archived soon, but I’m still waiting for correspondence from the CO.

That is why God invented Velcro…
