I believe the “file” should be SD card in the GPSr. If you have the GPS connected, it should show up as a drive. In the GSAK file section dialog box, select this as the path.

    Welcome to our obsession!

I picked up my first Palm on Ebay for $8, and it worked fine for a while. Eventually the unit failed, however, and I decided to buy a new one from Palm for $90. I think Ebay is a good option if you aren’t sure you will use it, but the cost of a new one is low enough that its probably worth the expenditure if you are sure you will use the unit.

If this is software you use on a regular basis, I would suggest you upgrade. The biggest benefit is probably the new code for handling child (additional) waypoints directly. Child waypoints are those additional waypoints you see on caches, such as parking coordinates, questions to answer, etc. I wrote the macros to handle these in version 6, and I can tell you that the new version is MUCH better than using my macros. Other features are more subtle (Vista support, ability to better customize the HTML pages, split screen maps, form support in macros, etc.)

The best reason to upgrade, however, is to support the current and future development of this program. This program is well supported on the support boards (http://www.gsak.net/board) with issues being handled within minutes and patches issued regularly whenever problems are found. You will not find a better package or better support at any price. Unless you are destitute, supporting the software that you actually use is very good idea.

Is there some reason why you can’t officially disable the cache?

Oops, forgot one thing. The parking for Captain Klutz and Vista Trails is closed for the winter. You could park south and hike across Highway 142, but my recommendation is that you ask to park in the orchard just to the north of the Captain Klutz first stage and hike south. It might be nice if you buy some apples or wine or something….

The one that WOULD have given you trouble (“Whats in a Name”) has been archived. We found it in the winter after a 40 minute hunt. The far south caches, Bing Bong and Horsing Around, should be findable but more difficult. Depending on the snow level, The Adventures of Captain Klutz might be a little difficult, but should be easier now since the brush has been cleared. King Bong Reader Exchange, Blue, Yellow, Red and the finals for Poof and Santa Claus might also give you some problems depending on the snow depth. (If you need skis or snowshoes, these will be more challenging.)

“Geocaching – Its a Wonderful Life” will be MUCH easier in Winter, as the final is in some of the thickest bushwacking I have ever done (which I did as a night cache in the summer – almost didn’t escape!) Everglade Pitch and the two Troll caches should also be easier now, but bring your boots just in case!

Oh and don’t be surprised if you don’t have huge numbers. To find ALL the caches in the park, I believe you would need to hike on the order of 10 miles, and that assumes you take an optimum route. And don’t forget to grab the nearby caches in Brightondale Woods and the Burlington School Forest while you are there.

Zuma, they are already on there. Don’t you see them? See there is a Christmas tree right next to Einstein Park, and another right by Kelso Park, and one right by Arbutis……

    Oh.

    Never mind.

I think there is a difference between a flashlight and a pipe. Do you have permission to place this cache? If so, maybe adding the name of the permitter on the cache listing would be a good thing.

Same with us. We’ve even found entire towns that we didn’t know about.

That is the monkey wrench in the works… Multiple user names per user.

Certainly an argument for charging a nominal fee (say $1 or $2) for membership. The problem is that people who would be willing to cheat on a board election would probably be willing to pay the extra money.

This is one of those “depends on which Thursday” things, but we would certainly like to attend some of them. (Are there really any caches within a couple miles of 100 and Beloit that you have not already found, Dave?)

Wow, Brian, I really like your approach on this issue. By my math, that means that we would need to get guarantees for 620 plate orders to reach the $15500 limit. Nothing to say we can’t take multiple “orders” from one team/person, as long as they deposit the money. Same with “out of staters” who may want to purchase a plate. One thing about “repurchases”, however. I believe we would only get credit for the initial purchase of the plate, but not for when people renew that plate each year. Anyone know that for sure?

I hope you don’t remove my vote. If you do, the cache I voted for won’t have any votes…. Oops, so much for my secret ballot….

At a $3500 expense in the best case, I don’t see how this could be justified. As a no-dues organization, it is very difficult to justify large expenditures for marketing/recruitment. It would be different if we could recover more by selling more, but that just isn’t the system. I think almost everyone would agree that we could spend this $3500 more wisely.
