Good work, guys!
I’m thinking a beer on the front and cheese and sausage on the back. (Maybe we can commission Becky to draw those as well!)
I did an analysis of the membership list and divided the membership using the same quarters that the DNR uses to decide whether a property is NE, NW, SE, or SW. The N/S division is roughly just south of Appleton, while the EW division is just east of Madison/Wausau. The numbers are as follows:
NW = 116
NE = 137
SW = 121
SE = 509
Parts Unknown = 2 (One guy listed New Dehli, another listed “Vermont City” which, surprisingly, doesn’t appear to be an actual place on Earth)Now, there are duplicates and other problems with the list, but I think the ratios will hold true once the list is cleaned up. Its easy to see how someone from the northern part of the state would feel that most of the forum posters are from the southern part of the state, because most of the members are from the southern part of the state. I’m thinking that maybe we just need ONE more forum category, namely Northern Wisconsin (maybe defined as the region north of Green Bay?) for those special issues involving the northern half of the state. I don’t think any of us in the southern half are shy about posting our regional issues to the general forum.
Nice job! On to 1000! You should be able to make that by the end of the year.
I took a look at the Chequamagon campsites, and most of them look too small. The area itself is great, but there doesn’t seem to be enough room for camping. There is one farther east in the “Nicolet Side” (Boulder Lake) which might work. Now you COULD make an argument that the campout is going to be spread over 4 or 5 of these little campgrounds, but I doubt that many people would consider that a good idea. Maybe this area would be better for the Picnic.
That said, before you start planning an event, maybe you should try to attend a WGA event to get a feel for what this is all about. I, for one, was stunned at just how many people attend these things and how much effort is required to pull it off.
Also, as I look at past events, the last four WGA events were held in 3 of the 4 quadrants of the state: NW (Lake Wissota), NE (Peninsula), and 2 in the SE (K-M South and North). It would seem that the SW quadrant people have more to complain about. But in the prior 3 years, 3 of the 6 events were in the SW quadrant.
I believe this is a feature provided on most products produced in France. (Ever own a Renault? Similar behavior!)
I can’t believe that none of you SE Wisconsin geocachers have gone to pick up the green jeep travel bug we placed in Cache of the Day (GCJ3MP). Its’ been there quite a while. 😈 (Not to mention this is one very nice cache!) Give me a call if you have trouble with WP1.
You made it!!!! Congrats!
Good work, Jeff!
Thanks, Brian. We all appreciate your efforts.
I hadn’t been back since you added the nationwide counties map feature. This is very cool.
Ya know…..since we are at least “sort of” central in the US…. I’m thinking….What about the “itsnotaboutthenumbers.com ALL US COUNTIES Challenge Cache”? You could probably get sponsorship from Exxon/Mobil. You probably wouldn’t have to put the cache out in the woods for at least 2 years!

That being said I’ve used many a Garmin unit in some really bad rainy and snowy conditions and never had a problem (knock on wood).
Ahhhhhh …. but we’re you at an EVENT (ie. pressing buttons for a whole bunch of caches) or doing regular caching (ie. pressing buttons every so often) … it’s all about accumlative exposure (which is the reason The Beast and I always wear shirts while swimming outside).
I think Energy Saver might be onto something. We have been out in heavy rains a lot, but it was always for non-multi caches where we set up the GPS in the car and then headed for the cache. The constant button pushing you would do at an event would definitely contribute to the problem. If you were actually entering a bunch of coordinates in the rain, well, you are more persistent than me! Maybe we can get Jay to put his GPS in the sink and then push the buttons until it fails as a test. I’m sure that the boys in Paris would be glad to replace the unit after the test.
Another big number! Great job, folks!
Wow! Great job! I wondered what you were doing caching out in Wadewicz. I should have guessed.

Did you tip him?? 😆
I refused to pay him. When I got to my room, I called the cab company and relayed the story. Let’s just say he doesn’t drive for this company anymore.
