RJ, I recommend you place that challenge in Korea. Be sure to put it on a railroad bridge next to a school, and put in lots of text promoting local businesses. Also, be sure to put some knives and firearms in the cache for good measure. Erik will be glad to help you with this one.

By the way, we had a bit of an issue with the upload so you may find that a few of the newer caches are not on the pulldown list (and also, all the old list is still there). Should be fixed soon.

First of all, you can move the center point if you want. Just say yes. And you can drag the center point all over the map or extend the radius. The reason that a small radius is used is because the map loads very slowly for people using certain versions of Internet Exploder if we use a radius that has more than a handful of caches.

in reply to: Fundamental Placement Guidelines #1959948

The old guidelines had language indicating that if you needed to use an implement (the actual words were “pointy stick”) to break the ground, you were violating the guidelines. Of course, that lead to people claiming that the 6 foot deep hole was made by scrabbling with their fingernails. I think they were just clarifying in this particular case.

Fire hydrants are dependent on the laws in particular communities. Some have laws prohibiting “tampering” with hydrants. I don’t personally have any knowledge as to which communities have such laws.

I’m 99% my cache isn’t an issue, given GC specifies highway bridges and the bridge in question isn’t a DOT monitored one, but in an attempt to be in compliance, should I pull mine from a covered bridge on a hiking trail?

By vehicular, they mean an Automobile bridge. Hiking trails, bike trails, snowmobile bridges, pedestrian walkways, etc, do not fall under this DOT issue. Note that they claim they inspect all vehicular bridges in the state.

Both years we have used our Bingo cards as a way to either sit out some rain or to meet people after we’ve finished for the weekend so there would be no racing for us.

I wondered if anyone was confused by the choice of words here. By “Bingo Card”, they are referring to the stamp sheet used to record finds, not the actual Social Bingo card we hand out to encourage socialization.

Let’s just say that Groundspeak is very aware of the backdoor and has yet to close it after updating the app at least 8 times. If it makes you happy, log it.

I have been using GSAK for 5 years and I havent mastered it yet. Where is the geocaching.com access selection???

You need Version 8 of GSAK.

This is a menu option near the right edge of the menu bar.

It has the menu label “Geocaching.com Access”.

The DOT prohibits caches on or under vehicular bridges. Basically they prohibit ANYTHING from being attached or placed under the bridges that they inspect.

I think people don’t report them bad caches because they don’t want to look like troublemakers or end up somehow in a fight with the hider even though if they go to the reviewer directly no info should be given out. What steps are taken when someone submits a bad cache? Is there a process the reviewers make people prove that they aren’t faking the report just to mess with someone?

My normal process is to disable the listing and give the CO a chance to correct the situation.

I think he’d be well suited to that position. 🙂

    I second the nomination! 😆

I just don’t know how he affords all that digital film!

Now why would they do that?

    Out of space maybe?

I was really hoping for a gun lock, but didn’t win one. Of course, I would have had a better chance had I put my tickets in the drum…

Of the units I’ve used, the best were the 76Cx and Dakota. The Oregon wasn’t as good as a the Dakota in that respect, and my old yellow Etrex was not in the same league as the others. I would argue that the positioning of the antenna, the other electronics used and the type of case will also have an effect on reception.

The rescue mission didn’t exist when you looked. It is the result of you not finding it.
