I believe Becky has been working with the county board on this, and the “rules” are essentially on hold. To be honest, I can’t remember the last time anyone wanted to place a cache in Jefferson county parks. Most of the activity in that area dried up when grcarlson stopped placing a lot of caches.

The reason the page hasn’t been updated is that Steve is still working with the bureaucrats in Madison. Hopefully we will get more information this week.

Well, if you worked for my company and used this sort of device and were caught, you would be instantly fired. If you believe your employer is not entitled to keep track of their vehicles and employees while on the clock, I suppose this is a good choice. Just don’t ask me to pay your unemployment check.

Seems kind of unnecessary. Most posts requesting adoption are quickly snapped up.

The ones in the Worldwide category are listed by Groundspeak.

I don’t think that even Groundspeak should be able to issue non-location specific challenges. It even says that the basic premise of challenges is to “go somewhere, do something”. I can do most of the world-wide challenges that have been listed from my house.

I would seriously suggest you communicate your feelings to them. I know they are interested in the opinions of the players.

Really? I took the wording of Jeremy’s “DECLINED” post and the locking of the thread of nearly 2000 comments that players think the challenges suck, that the opinions of players did NOT matter.

I’m afraid that telling someone their concept sucks does not qualify as constructive criticism, no matter how many people like it.

This is usually ok, as long as it doesn’t come across as promotional.

How many flags does a challenge have to have to be deleted?

Top secret, but stick with flagging “no location” challenges as inappropriate.

For me, if the coords are off by more than 30′, I post corrected coordinates. Less than 30′, only if there is damage occurring or it is a very difficult hide.

I really think that the visceral reaction was the result of challenges being pre-sold as the replacement for virtuals. People were all excited about all the great virtuals they had found in the past, and expecting similar options for the future. Now they see all the couch potato challenges and other similar silliness and are disappointed in the results. Including them in the find count is just adding insult to injury.

I had hoped, like so many others, that it would have worked out to be something special. Instead, we get challenges to act silly, drink beer, file complaints, support various causes, etc., with very little involving special PLACES, which is really what this is supposed to be about. Of course, had we actually thought about what most of the geocaches we find today are like, we would have realized that those same people putting out guardrail and terrace hides are listing challenges, so we would have expected a similar ratio of quality to junk. While I do think Groundspeak could have done a better job of anticipating this and putting in better controls and documentation, the fault truly lies with the people actually listing (and logging) the bad challenges.

The one change I would like to see would be to prevent challenges from being logged (or accepted) for 24 hours after they are listed. This will give people to vote down the non-location based challenges before people log them. This is “supposed” to be like virtuals. It is not supposed to be like Locationless and it is certainly not supposed to be a “Take a picture of your cat” contest.

Really? I’m adopting a new bunny on Monday. I could get a smiley! 😆 🙄

Too slow. That one was already archived. (Keep flagging the bad ones, folks. They do need your help.)

The search is a 25 mile radius.
