You are on the right track to get a serial adapter. Unfortunately, these can be tricky to use. If you are using a desktop, you might find it easier to get a serial port card for your computer (around $10).
Of course, there is nothing to stop you from just manually entering a few waypoints into your unit and going out to find a few boxes. It isn’t like you need to enter more than a handful to see if they will enjoy the exercise. Just hold down the “Enter” button to get to place where you enter waypoints, then use the rocker switch and the enter button to change the coordinates to your new waypoint. This unit is easy for the basics, so I’m sue you will catch on after the first couple entries.
The idea of the favorites is to provide a system where you can see what caches other people have enjoyed (and conversely, ones that were enjoyed “not so much”.) I’m hoping (crossing my fingers) that in the following update, the favorite number will be added to the GPX file, and thus available to GSAK, Easy GPS, etc.
This will be more helpful to those of us who combine travel and geocaching. Since the number of favorites you can post is limited, most people will not waste their favorites on parking lots, guardrails and other nonsense. So, if you want to find the best caches in the area you are traveling, just load your query and sort by “favorites”. Then, you can be reasonably sure to find the “Don’t miss” highlights of the area, rather than finding the lampposts and fire hydrants. I can tell you that I will definitely be adding my favorites to the system, and I would encourage you to as well.
Let’s just say that the phrase “Not Ready for Primetime” comes to mind….
If someone wants to keep up a public bookmark list of the caches on the list, I could add them. But in this case, keep up means keep up at least weekly, so that the bookmark is always up to date when I PQ it.
If you are logging on here using your old IBM, I am impressed.
Assuming you mean “opencaching.com”, not “opencaching.us”, the user name cannot include spaces. Try creating your name without the space.
I don’t make the rules (or even interpret them in this case). I would strongly suggest you direct your complaints to Groundspeak.
Here is the KB page:
No idea. This is their rule. I’d run that through contact to see what they indicate.
There is no problem with cross listing. You just can’t mention on the page that the cache is also listed elsewhere. They don’t want you promoting the competition.
Interesting. It appears that the “Awesomeness” rating is set by the owner, not by the finders. For some reason, I can’t sign up today.
We always allowed links to Flash pages in the past, but apparently there was a specific case where someone used a flash site for gathering personal info about the user. It was always not allowed on the cache page itself.

Found they work really well for teeny-tiny tick checks. 😯
Well there is a use I never thought of for it…
Hmmm, Where exactly are ya lookin for those ticks?? lol 😉
Maybe your next purchase should be a pair of pants to wear while in the woods?
While I was very tempted to invoke rules 11a and 11e, I changed the rule to read “1 year or more” instead of “more than 1 year” (2 year rule changed similarly) since that was how I was trying to enforce it anyway. As someone has recently been helping me with processing logs, he was enforcing the rules as written, so we can’t blame him for that. Everything is good again, go back to finding lonely caches!
I’m not going to argue with anyone’s opinion here, but if you would like the definition of the attribute changed, you want to either write Groundspeak directly (likely to work) or post to the gc.com message boards (not likely to work, but what the hey!). I do agree that “Available in Winter” is kind of stupid, as it would be disabled if it wasn’t “Available”.
