    If you can do it and prove it, I guess I have to award the points. Given the number of naked cachers in the other thread, the indecent exposure citations might be a real possibility.

    Can points be split between two or more teams if they team up on the hunt or is this an all-or-nothing-drag-out-death-match kind of thing?

    Finds count for everyone logging a find. I suppose if people team up to fix a cache, we can double up the points as well.

    Is there a prize for having the lowest points? 😀

    Cheezehead is in also. Ya, is there a prize for the lowest points? There ‘s not too many lonely caches around me, but there is one of mine and one I adopted. How would that play out?

    You can’t get credit for your own caches, but there are 12 caches on the list within 30 miles of Hayward, and only two are yours (Apostle Island and the Hayward Cheesehead and the 52 Pickup you adopted).

    Jay, I set the limit at 4 months, not 3, to keep the total under 500 caches. If your caches continue to be ignored, they will make the next game. 😀

    Everyone else,
    One of the problems with bookmarks is that long lists will sometimes break the program at geocaching.com. This issue has only existed for around 2 years or so. I guess they are working on it (NOT!) Usually it fixes with a reload or, better yet, change the “caches per page” to 50, which seems to work better. Just for fun, it would be good if everyone having this issue would send an email to [email protected] complaining about it.

    And yes, the idea is to turn this into a PQ and drop it into GSAK (or similar programs). This way, you can sort by distance, cache type, owner, terrain, etc.

    PCFrog,
    I don’t know about a low score award, though. I’m sure we will have a few people with 0, plus some people will try to win it by whining to get a big penalty, which I don’t want to encourage!

    OK, here is the bookmark list for the game. This might get a little shorter if someone goes out and find any of them in the next two weeks.

    Lonely Cache List

    I also have a map of the caches for you virtually inclined folks, but I have to upload it to my web server before I can add it here.

    And after doing a quick survey, here are the numbers of “Caches on the list within 30 miles of”

    Brookfield = 54
    Madison = 30
    Appleton = 46
    Green Bay = 39
    Eau Claire = 56
    Kenosha = 30 (That darn border and lake cuts down on the numbers)

    So, No Whining!

    The first paragraph is in reference to ABCDMCachers post. This forum is busy this afternoon.

    Believe it or not, there are a lot of these caches in SE Wisconsin. There are a total of 54 caches on the list (of 456) within 30 miles of “The Buggy Bug Hotel” which is quite close to your house, I think. Quite few in Oconomowoc, along the Milwaukee County Parkways, in the Kettle Moraine, etc. There is also a big chunk in Kenosha County. The whole idea is to focus on the really old ones. I did go through the list and weed out all the “obviously missing” caches, so most of these are there to be found. Since obviously people like this idea, I’ll get my bookmark list going tonight so you can look at it.

    On a related note, I have received a couple suggestions privately. First is a bonus for moving travel bugs (2 for moving, 1 for reporting missing). This seems like a good idea to me. Any objections?

    Second, someone suggested that we need either more or bigger prizes, and backed up their suggestion with a donation offer. I’m thinking maybe prizes for the top 5 or so. Any thoughts on this?

    Woohoo! Congrats and good choice for a milestone. Did you make the find in one trip?

    Also, I would highly recommend the GRR series across the river in Iowa. Lots of nice views of the river and nice big containers so you aren’t looking for micros all day. Also, right around PDC, we found a couple others we really liked, Fern Gully and Three Artesian Wells (or something like that).

    Ya know, I can think of a lot of people who would be within their rights to complain about this, but…..Marc……Uh……Oh, never mind.

    in reply to: Published caches ….which aren’t #1882062

    Remember there is difference between ARCHIVED and NOT PUBLISHED. Occasionally (I’ve done it twice) we retract published caches if no one has posted a log on the cache and it was published in error. These caches will usually get an email sent out (single cache insta-notify) unless it is retracted really quickly. On the other hand, it would be extremely unlikely that any of these retracted caches would end up on the weekly cache mailer. I’m assuming people have seen these on single cache notifications. Usually these are eventually published. A typical example was a cache I published in Menomonie which looked ok until I saw the second cache in the same series and discovered it was 60 miles away (nothing like missing the coordinates by a degree.)

    I did look for the cache mentioned by Miata, and it doesn’t show up on Team Bear Bear’s list of caches (even archived or pending publication). I do see a Pink Flamingo by Flamingo 4, which was active for quite a while before it was archived.

    in reply to: Pocket queries messed up? #1882039

    Or, if you are impatient and don’t like solving puzzles(!), you can send an email to [email protected] and they will take a look. It is possible that you have somehow created a PQ with no caches, but more than likely, something is wrong.

    in reply to: Pocket queries messed up? #1882031

    Slight correction to Zuma’s post. When the PQ generator runs, it gives priority to queries that were last run long ago (or never). If you ran your query recently, it will fall to bottom of the list. Even if you just ran the query a few minutes ago, it will EVENTUALLY run, but that might be 12 hours later. If they are really busy, it might even fall to the next day (where it gets prioritized towards the bottom of the list again!)

    So, making a new query works. So does being patient. You get to choose which.

    in reply to: Public Hunting Land…. not a happy cacher #1881917

    I have to say I’m a little amused with all the fear over hunters. Other than deer gun season (admittedly there are quite a few knuckleheads in the woods during that season), there is virtually never a hunting incident in Wisconsin. Why? Because, bow hunters, muzzle loader hunters, small game hunters, bird hunters, etc., are very dedicated to their sport and to safety. I run into these guys all the time in Bong, and while they are somewhat surprised to see a winter hiker, there is zero chance that anybody is going to get mistaken for a squirrel or a goose (or even a deer) and get shot. Usually they will call out to hikers to avoid startling them, as they are often in full camo.
