Well, the PQ has been run, and most of the caches, besides the mysteries have been found very recently for the squeemish. Even the mysteries, including the one listed as down for maintenance, were found in late October. Marc_54140 and I will be there regardless, but it’d be nice to see some new faces in the parking lot.

Just noticed too, that there are Maintenance Needed and Owner Maintenance log categories now. I’ve got a little geen cross on my cache page for replacing the log. Nice feature that I’ll be using.

That’s Q.E.D. Marc. Or you’re free to meet me in Stevens Point and you can just ride with me the whole way. Six of one, half a dozen…

I will say that we should be prepared for some DNFs, what with reports of damaged containers, etc., although assembling a good group should minimize the hassles. Overall I’m optimistic, and Don Quixote I’m not!

If I get some solid yesses I’ll get a GSAK file together and pick a start point for our merry band.

All but the last were found this fall, well after they went offline. I’ll risk it. Also, there are the Fish Dinner caches in mind as well. I think I’m looking at a date of January 29th for this foray. It’s a dense little area, and I like the odds of a good group.

Oh, you sad sick monkeys. When they contact me and not you, I’m just going to leave with them and not tell you where I went.

Yep, just south of Portage off of 90-94. Lots of public land along the streams.

Or perhaps the last Sunday this month?

We like your resolution Katrina. I think our real resolution will be to spend more time on the caches that capture our imagination. There are some good series we haven’t completed and others like High Brass and Pain In The Cache that sound like really nice days out. The Mountain area has some great multis and There’s a 3-legged Dog barking on the west side of the state. We’ve always liked long physical caches, especially multis, so we’ll just keep on keepin’ on there.

Oh. And we’ll be cached out to 50 miles. That’ll be easy in Central Wisconsin. We’ve only got 17 left as of today.

Stepped on the scale yesterday for the first time in weeks. Down 10 lbs! Thanks to Trudy & The Beast for the late season prediction . As for this year, the caches will come. Hope to not lag so much on placing some.

Hi wzbt03, we haven’t had the opportunity to meet you yet. It’s valid that there are caches out there yet that lack that certain something for the experienced cacher, heck maybe even for the novice cacher. They’re not all gems. But they’re our people. Some caches have gained reputations over time, and they’re waiting for us. You haven’t hit the cache count you’re at without doing some serious caching, and I’d be interested in what caused you’re change of heart. If I said I liked them all I’d be lying, but I am thankful that someone enjoyed hiding all of our finds. The sport has changed, probably before we started playing, but is it really irredeemable? No matter where it goes we’ll still be walking in the woods and if we’re lucky we’ll meet you there.

Big ups from the Honeybunnies! We don’t get to meet our southern kin, but it’s us against the world .

Another hard earned mark! Just under the wire, too! Good luck in the New Year.

I had a long message framed in my mind about beautiful caches I have done, the vistas, the spectacular trails, the little mountain valley on the way back from a cache where I asked Ms. Honeybunny to be my bride, etc., etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum. I realized that all I was doing was apologizing for the part of me that loves the number hunt. It’s just a part of who I am. I may as well apologize for being born blonde-haired and blue-eyed.
Yes, there are lame caches. At the very absolute worst, I can thank them for adding one to my count. Somebody else may be thankful to be able to find a cache at the playground they take their kids. Or that their friends can log it when they visit their town, or that anyone logs the cache in their special place in the middle of nowhere.
Just like anything in our society, we can choose whether or not to do it. If I don’t like a cache I don’t have to do it. Someone else will. Treat it like the ability to change the channel if you don’t like the show rather than removing it from the airwaves.
My second cache, recently placed is somewhat experiential. In the winter, you will be swarmed by mallards looking for bread, in the summer it will be one of the easiest park and logs you’ve ever done, in a pretty unremarkable park. The people doing it now are getting it, and it shows in their logs. I doubt others will appreciate it in the summer. Do I take it offline then because it’s not fun? Where do I draw the line on style?
If the numbers went away, I probably would revisit more often some of the other great things I do outside. I wouldn’t look for waterlogged tupperware and rusting army surplus. And I’d still find the amazing vistas, beautiful views, interesting history and the place I asked Marie to marry me.

Oof! Your milestones pass so quickly I’m in danger of cramping!
