I am going to move you over to the Committee I set up but one thing about forums is it does take a little longer for a response sometimes. I is still hard for me to get used to after many years.

We could do it all here but I did already set up the committee for those interested.

After much thought about this, all roads lead back to “staying relevant” as Walking Adventure stated.
The WGA needs to add value to the geocaching community. Helping in conservation like CITO’s or adding new challenges or games. To best portray this, why not share what we are offering today. This is the letter I keep current and send out to new member when they join. Here is what we have and can build upon to stay relevant in the geocaching community.

Forgive the formatting it is in Rich text and does not paste well..

Hello. Welcome to the Wisconsin Geocaching Association.

This is a Team Northwoods generated email not an automatic computer generated email. I am 1 of 9 elected volunteer board members of the WGA. I am also the chairman of the Membership Committee, therefore I email new members giving them a “little” information about what the WGA offers. The WGA consists of over 650 members.

The WGA is an all-volunteer geocaching organization: members, board members, committee members and geocachers that step up at events and in the geocaching community. There are no fees to be a member of the WGA. We have all come together to make Wisconsin a great place for us to play.

Make sure you verified your email address to become a full WGA Member. Adding your location to the profile is not required but it is nice to see the diversity of our group on the member map. You do not need to use your exact address just city and state, otherwise you can use coordinates.

Being part of the WGA will give you access to our members forum. If you have any questions or are looking for information this is a great place to start. In the forums you will also find a New Members Forum to introduce yourself; if you like at:

in reply to: Yes, I like micros! #2045711

I like to use micros as trail markers on how how to get to the ammo can miles deep. Give good hints and set the difficulty accordingly unless I want to make it evil and state so. Rare but some spots warrant it. Ammo can also cost a lot so some micro filler is much cheaper than all ammo. I find that nowadays that if you don’t have a few along the way your cache may never get hit. I enjoy the long walks navigating my own route but some don’t like that.

On the flip side if I walked across a mile of field or open hardwoods and found just an ammo can at the base of a tree than that is not always rewarding either. Sometime the extra search is makes it worth it if done tastefully.

Some people hear “micro” and think nanos and bison tubes. Those don’t belong in the woods, IMO. It sometimes depends on one’s version of “micro”. I have seen magnetic key cases called small, but in my book, they are micros. So are pill bottles (unless they are large enough to be called “small”) and matchstick holders. I call decon containers “small”, but they can’t hold much in the way of swag, and are definitely not ammo cans… but they are OK by me.

You mean Twin City regular sized caches! lol

Good job! Did you remember to sign my name on the logs as you did them? Too bad. Guess the search continues.

in reply to: Caching….the experience or the find? #2045263

I really like to make an adventure out of geocaching if I can. That is one reason I have switched to going out in search of many WGA Lonely Caches. They are lonely for a reason and it is usually because they are not easy to get to although the occasion PnG is on the list.

I know I may not find the cache but what I discover along the way is what I started to focus on. That is also why I started my own website. http://www.teamnorthwoodsgeocaching.com

The best part of geocaching is discovering what lies beyond.

I like to go out exploring and learning about my surroundings. Searching for that little known place just off the beaten path. My main focus is trying to discover unique geological features, flora and fauna and areas of historical significance.

Why geocaching? Because geocaches are almost everywhere now. I  grew up hiking and wandering before geocaching.   You looked at a topo map and headed out into the unknown. If you had a GPS along, you marked a unique area with a waypoint and there it sat all alone on your GPS. Geocaches give you a destination, a record of where you have been and a platform on which to share your adventure.

When out exploring you might find a babbling brook, nice little meadow or a lost waterfall. When I find these special little places I like to share the area by hiding a geocache. Now you to can make it into your own adventure.

Here is one example of a LCG Article I wrote. http://teamnorthwoodsgeocaching.com/blog/2015/7/21/wga-lcg-deer-run-special

The fall is always a very hectic time for me to try and geocache or do anything other than work but I have been able to get out there last weekend and hopefully tomorrow.  But I have to be honest if I do not find the cache or at least a remnant I am still quite disappointed even though I have DNF PRIDE!!

It is fine to have some sort of system like this but difficulty would have to come into play. The dawn of Skynet is imminent!

Chrome no longer supports the Plugin for GC.com. Chrome won’t work for me either. I have Windows 10 and use GSAK with no problem loading geocaches.  I rarely ever use gc.com
