Any small changes can be done this year but any point type changes, mileage points etc. would probably take place starting January 2016 correct? We are already months into this years game. Not that I wouldn’t mind extra points for running north of me over 50 miles as a crow flies. The Most Wanted could probably be added anytime too. There is no rush on this, we have some time to get it all figured out for the extra point side correct?

Quite honestly now that I know there is more to this game then just a stat for myself. I have played this game since I first heard about it but thought it was just for myself as a stat and didn’t know about an event for it. Now I know that it adds an extra incentive. I have already been eyeing up that Trapper Series for this spring and I know where a FTF cache is at. Thanks for pointing that out labrat. I was talking to scott543 at the event out that lonely little run. If someone like me learns more about the game and goes up north to grab some of these old caches it will move the game pieces around quite a bit I would think. SO that is why I am leaning towards promotion.
If you look at my logs for the lonely caches and the other 13 I just found the day of the event, I added a link to the lonely cache game page. Just doing that could make a little difference here and there when I am out hunting lonely caches. We need to find the ones out there to keep the game board moving around.

Right off the bat. The Badges and the Most Wanted List with a 5 or 10 point bonus that most likely would be tripled would be good due to the last found log. Sounds like good ideas. Getting into points is getting a little bit to far ahead though. I think an additional amount of caches added list to the 50 or 100 category might not be bad either?

I have some suggestions to help promote the LCG but I definitely would stay away from breaking the game up in quadrants. I am afraid it would lessen competition and make too many winners. Now that said a modified quadrant might work for quarterly winners or something but not monthly.
I would prefer to see a banner or graphic on the web page for the LCG that every year we have an event that gives out prizes to the top ten ranking that show up to the event. I would even say show up that way 11, 12 and 17 will show up because 3, 5-8, and 10 may not.
Every month on Facebook make a post ranking the top 3 creating completion and pats on the back. Bring more presence to the LCG.
I would do those things first before breaking up the state in quadrants for the LCG. Baby steps. A few modifications could go a long way and then move on from there. Too much modification would completely change the game altogether and I don’t think it needs a complete over haul as of yet.

How Does Weather Affect GPS?
The GPS system is designed to be unaffected by the weather, with the 1575.42MHz frequency chosen as it is not affected by rain, snow or clouds. In bad weather, there may be slight signal degradation, but this should not prevent a GPS receiver from receiving satellite data. Although GPS signals can penetrate rain, a coating of water on the receiver can block the signal, so you should keep the GPS receiver itself dry to ensure optimum performance. Unlike Earth-based weather systems that do not affect GPS, space weather events such as solar flares or radio bursts can temporarily degrade the performance of the GPS system.Other Considerations
As GPS requires an unobstructed line of sight to four satellites, any obstructions such as tall buildings or forest canopies can block the signal and prevent the GPS receiver from calculating your location. In these cases, changing your location to an area with no obstructions will allow your GPS receiver to obtain a signal. The power supply to the GPS receiver also plays a part in its operation, especially with mobile GPS receivers using batteries. In cold weather, or if the battery power is getting low, it can be harder to receive a good signal. For this reason, you should carry a spare set of batteries for the GPS receiver.Read more : http://www.ehow.com/info_12106197_weather-affect-gps.html

It wasn’t too cold for this group on Saturday with 40 mph wind gusts up at the Chippewa Moraine. GC5FZKD

I would love to get in on a group hike to any one of the lonely caches in Meade. No snowshoes, so I’m really hoping there are some snowmobile trails.
Is anyone interested in attempting Bad George? GCYVEF It looks like a little over 2 miles round trip.
Are you planning this after the event?

02/18/2015 at 2:29 pm in reply to: WGA Board and forum lurkers, too ….the gauntlet is thrown! #2035834I agree with you but it will take some time and the forums have some disadvantages you will have to make up for with content and reach that smaller groups might not get. It will take some thinking over.
Here are some excerpts from my response in the Candidates Corner.
If there is a topic in the forum that you want more input on. Post the link on every group page.

See the comment I placed under my plans for the LCG Event. That one post reached 101 people since I posted it 17 hours ago. My posts this week alone reached 1,488.

BigJim60 – I should be able to snowshoe up the little bear creek to Ursa Minor right? It looks like it is a slow flow creek so it should be iced over unless there are a lot of springs in the area. I have no idea. Never been around there before.

It is a 3 hour drive for me and if all goes as planned with getting TN Elliephant dropped off by 7:30 I am planning on starting at these caches at 10:30 going up to grab Ursa Minor.

And then after the event going to Gilligan’s Island

02/12/2015 at 11:19 am in reply to: 2nd Annual Snowshoeing at the Chippewa Moraine, Saturday Feb.14th #2035522The Event must go on. The 2014 photo below was at 15 to 20 below windchill’s and still 22 people came and snowshoed for a couple hours, so I will not cancel the event.
I have had quite a few people contact me about the temps (if you sent me an email or message you were not the only one) so I want people to feel comfortable with the options available at the event and the fact that I will be there and ready to go for whatever the group decides. If we want to follow the schedule then let’s do it. It is not like we can’t just turn around and go I guess it was to chilly. Snowshoeing itself will be fine for as long as you wear proper clothes and cover up your face. As least I don’t have to worry about signing any logs!!!
The meet up and plan the day portion of the event is still on from 10:00 – 10:30 inside the Interpretive Center. Take a photo and then by 10:30 we should have our day planned which might just be to play with the animals inside the Ice Age Center, go grab a couple park and grabs, see how far we can make it right behind the Ice Age Center, or disperse and go our own ways. I am very flexible on what to do but cannot reschedule. You still get a smiley for attending.
Things to do in the interpretive center, hold a snake, pet a turtle, dig for fossils, borrow snowshoes, watch a nature video, do a scavenger hunt, feed the fish a bug, discover how ice formed the Chippewa Moraine, try the voyageurs’ paddle race or play voyageurs’ tug-of-war.Next snowshoeing event will be in Barron Wisconsin on March 14th at 6:30 pm. GC5MBHX Moonlit Snowshoeing and Hot Chocolate Party
The 3rd Annual Snowshoeing at the Chippewa Moraine is planned February 13th, 2016. I was planning on going from Knickerbocker Lake to Horseshoe Lake but now could probably just go to Hodge Lake. I have all these nice maps already made up. I have time to figure it out.
Hmmmm?

I have lived within a 2 mile radius my whole life. I go a lot of places and meet people originally from Bruce or meet people that know somebody from Bruce because there is nothing to keep anyone here.
