What a WONDERFUL suggestion! That’s a beautiful area down that way, and, even though it’s several hours from here, it’s a much more realistic drive for us than the location of this year’s get-together.

    Thanks for the post PCFrog.

The SAD thing is, for those of us that don’t live in a “metro” area, we don’t get nearly the visits to our caches that those of you down in the southern part of the state get… Should that preclude us from EVER winning the COTM? Just simply because we happen to live “way up north” with a lower population base to visit – and, therefore, vote? I would hope sincerely hope not. I have to believe that Geopink is right… My ONLY hope is that cachers can (maybe) see the quality of the cache by the time and effort I put into my cache description page, story line of the adventure (yes, I’ve actually gone for a “story line” in my cache which was nominated last month, “The Adventure Begins…”), and, if someone is in the area, hopefully they like the locations, views and the containers/swag/cache itself.

Just out of curiousity — Over the entire history of WGA’s COTM, how many WINNING caches (not just nominees) are within 50 miles of Superior? How about 100 miles? I think the answer might surprise some of you… then again… maybe not.

Believe it or not folks, there are some AMAZING caches – and cachers – up this way… Great folks like Tango90 and Eddyed have hidden some completely unbelievable hides! And, we’re ALL very proud members of the WGA!!

Thank you for the quick reply! I was mistaken that someone HAD to be a WI resident to be eligible to vote.

If, in fact, it reduces fraud, I think it’s a good thing… however, I wish there was a “fairer” (is that a word? 😯 ) way to represent those of us in the more outlying areas. All in all, I think you all do a very good job at what you do…

Thanks again – and happy caching to all,

At the risk of sounding like I’m whining… (which, I guess I might be a little bit), here’s a note I wrote to the board that I’d like to share with all of you… (in reference to: GCVM4W )

I felt I needed to write to express my disappointment at your new rule requiring that someone be a member of WIGCA to vote for COTM – and, that to become a member, one must reside in the state.

This has, in essence, made it so that nobody’s cache from a small, border community can realistically win the award. Superior is a small town on the border of WI/MN – and, most of the people who find my caches are from Duluth and the surrounding communities. However, these people are unable to vote for my cache for COTM. Further, for the people in Milwaukee, Madison, Eau Claire, etc. – the vast majority of those who find their caches will be WI residents and will be able to join and, therefore, be able to vote. Yes, some with be from out of state, but by far, most will be from within.

It’s sad when the small town caches have absolutely no way to compete with the larger city caches – especially those located in the heart of WI. Your current voting requirements skew things to those caches – and, again, the northern half of the state goes unrecognized.

I realize my cache (GCVM4W) is still “in the running” for COTM, but it seems unlikely to be able to pull it out in the long run, because most of our caching community up here happens to live in Duluth (the larger population center).

    Thank you for listening…

All the best, and happy caching to you all,

-Glen from Team Petey. (A Superior, WI resident)
