Does a “Navman” have good accuracy like a stand-alone?
Are they reliable, etc.?(I’m pointing the friend to read this forum, so please help him out, if you have experience. He didn’t say what model of “Navman”, but that he saw one on ebay going for $165.)
Thanks!
I know 2 people that have tried this route. Both of them were VERY disappointed and ended up with dedicated handheld GPS units. Here is why they didn’t like it:
1) Battery life very short (2-4 hours)
2) Small antenna only works well in a car, loses signal with even the slightest canopy.
3) Fumbling with a stylus while you are walking in the woods leads to cuts and bruises.
4) Since it’s always in you hand, the chances of dropping it in the water or on a rock goes up dramatically. All in all, spend the $165 on an etrex not a NavMan.

I kinda figured, as many are complaining that the color screens on the newer GPRr’s are worthless in the sun.
The color screen on our 60C works AWESOME in the sun. Better than having the backlight on! This is all thanks to newer TFT technology (Thin Film Transistor). They actually use the sunlight to sharpen the display.
A good article on the technolgy: http://www.cs.ndsu.nodak.edu/~revie/amlcd/

Just kidding! The tent thing works for me.

Tent – Non group. Backpackers – U.P./Estes Park/Yosemite/Etc.
The 60C has the standard 4 pin round garmin connector on the back. The unit also comes with a USB cable which is sooooooo much faster for downloading maps and waypoints than the serial cable. (and yes the serial cord is the same as the 76)
We have a Garmin 60C and LOVE IT. We have owned a GPS 12 and GPSMAP 76S and the 60C is by far a superior GPS. We have also used a few of the etrex models and found them to be OK. The 60C has so many practical features on it that it’s the only GPS I recommend to anyone.

Doesn’t the 60 c/cs still have the round 4 pin connector on it, in addition to the usb? If so, we will just use the round connectors. It takes about 5 seconds to upload the waypoints to the Garmins. The added speed of usb won’t be noticed for waypoints.I would imagine I’ll have the USB drivers next week. I think they’re included on the disk for my new StreetPilot 2610, which is in the mail

New GPS, Sweet!! Yup, the 60C has the round connector, just curious about the USB. Thanks!
Nice job!! We’re looking forward to caching with you two soon.

Will you have the USB drivers loaded for the 60C/CS?We were all excited that we figured it out all by ourselves, rushed to the coors…No cache! Cut my head and found a dead bird instead.
(Did we do something wrong?) Hmmm…
Email houseofbrew… Doh!! Searching in the right spot, cache is gone!!! Don’t ya just hate that!A very well thought out cache. Voted for COTM.
Anyone for more eggs?
