My other internet based hobby has been considered odd.  Have you seen a Where’s George dollar?  Yep, that’s my other hobby.  I went to Saint Louis a year and a half ago for a Where’s George gathering and ended up caching with about half a dozen other Georgers who also are cachers.  I’ve even been able to sneak a few of my Where’s George dollars into caching events as well.

I have reasons for not posting on here all that often, it’s been the transition to the new page as of late.  Believe it or not, I’ve been doing more winter caching this year.  I went on my longest consecutive days with a find streak in November, could be due to the lack of white fluffy stuff we had at that time.  That reminds me, I should really post in the forums a cache I would recommend in Green Bay:  GC3CB86  I just found that cache a couple days ago, and it’s a new favorite.

Oh shut up, this lack of snow actually encouraged me to get out there and cache and cross days off of my calender.

No clue on the page right now, but there is a disclaimer on the cache page that warns it may not be winter friendly.

That’s what I meant. I found it in the middle of winter with no snowbanks around at all. My first thought was “Not winter friendly MY @$$” I might have even put that in my log as well. I’m pretty sure that was a warm winter that year tho.

Yet another recommendation, I would file this under “Better loosen up that belt!” If you’re ever up in Lakewood, I would highly recommend Anderson’s Supper Club. I just came from there and had their Friday night fish, and they give you a generous size fish, and you can get a heap of fries with that if you like. The service was pretty decent too. There is/was another one in Green Bay at the edge of Joannes Park. I was co-FTF on it with Frizz. Several days later, there were a couple of DNF’s, so I checked as I live nearby and the logbook was missing. Fast forward to yesterday. I was on my way past there again on my way to Green Bay East High’s homecoming parade and football game. The front window on the LFL was completely removed and what books remained were soaked. I’m not gonna take any bets on how long before this one gets archived.

Other than the issues I described, I think LFL caches are a great idea when done in an appropriate manner, such as what Team Deejay described.

I listened to that podcache on Monday after it was released, and my first thought was about your TB that I grabbed in July. I was thinking of entering the contest because I have that vicarious connection because of said TB, but I think it would be better if the book went to an out of stater. . .but hey, that’s just my humble opinion.

My reason for placing a cache before I submit is partially based on the guidelines stating that you have to do so. Also, if you can’t get back to place the cache after submitting, you’re gonna have a few disappointed cachers. Plus you never know how quick the reviewers might be. If your intent is to simply place a simple container, you might as well place it while you’re there getting the coords. The CO of the cache I’m talking about e-mailed me stating that he intended to physically place the cache on Tuesday and not Monday. I would say don’t submit until the day you intend to place.

That’s why I’ve never submitted a cache to be published until after the container was in place. It helps to know that we do have several FTF hounds in the Green Bay area.

I should mention that this post is about a recent FTF attempt I made on GC5D1MR. When I first went out to seek the cache, I didn’t find it. Then the CO went to place the cache and e-mailed me that he intended to place it tomorrow, and that I should pay attention to the date of placement before I look for a cache. I did end up making the find along with another cacher tonight.

A cache has to be memorable and/or have a view of some sorts to warrant a picture from me. The one I regret not taking any pictures on was Consolidated Fire Tower up north of Laona last year, man that was a great cache and so worth it in the fall. Perhaps I’ll make a pit stop there just for pictures, thanks for the reminder.

Like BBG said, it’s a great way to combine the two hobbies of photography & geocaching. I take a picture of almost every cache, even the lame ones. And like Sandlanders mentioned, I don’t post spoilers.

Why take/post pictures with my logs? 1. It’s a journal, going on 5 years now, of many, many adventures. 2. Pictures are my field notes. I’ve noticed some people I cache with write notes in the field in a small notebook on the caches they found so when logging them they won’t miss any and can presumably recall essential details. I essentially do the same with pictures. Every cache (usually) and every waypoint. It helps me to recall the cache, and more importantly the adventure, both when writing the log online, and years later. It only takes a few seconds to take a picture; it doesn’t have to take up a bunch of time to digitally capture that memory. BTW I also use the field notes feature on my GPSr to keep cache finds in order. 3. Very handy for when I get those PAF calls. 4. It’s a thank you to the cache owners so they are able to see pictures of the adventure that they helped create. Sometimes I’ll email the CO a fun spoiler picture of their cache that I cannot post with my log.

Thanks so much for those pictures on Cache Cow several weeks ago. Believe it or not, you guys were the first to post a picture with Babe the Blue OX – emphasis on ox for you city slickers. 😛 I believe you were only the third caching party to post pictures on that cache in the five years it’s been there.

Sorry for the cross post between two regions, but this might be right on the border between NE and NC. Last weekend before going to grab my first three souvenirs, I stopped at a place called Grudgeville Pub & Grub just south of Langlade. I had been there once before, and it has the typical out in the woods bar feel. Even so, they have a decent selection of beer. The burgers there are excellent too.

If you’re coming from the north, the place comes up on you quick. The coords are:
