I was thinking about doing a flash mob at the old Chip and Dale cache in Green Bay. For those who don’t remember, this was the one that got blown up by the bomb squad last March.

Very sad indeed. Just goes to show that you really do need to pay attention in this sport. I went digging for more info on this story, and found absolutely nothing, not even on the Washington State Geocaching Association’s forums. Nothing there even.

I will agree with the reviewer in the case of The Phantom cache, and others like it where a cacher just up and swiped the container. I don’t know for sure that this was the one initially in question, but I make reference to this one because Gotta Run brought it up, and I’m the one who swiped the container. As far as the cache placer (gibbonacci I believe), I just checked his profile, and he last logged in at the end of September. I certainly can’t speak for how often he logs in, or how regularly either. Seeing as how I have the container, and several log books right now, I will do my best to replace the cache as soon as I can get back that way.

Chill out… Jeez….
Remember, hindsight is 20/20.
If it was spread out all over the lawn, it was more geo-trash than geocache.
Plus, if the finder didn’t know where it was supposed to be, how could he have put it back?
If you are a local, and you don’t know where to put it back, it might be best to take it with you then get it back to the owner.
Conversely, he could have just walked away and let the park maintainence people throw everything away when they found it.
There was a small amount of geo trash laying around, and the fact that the container was laying in the open with a missing log book led me to believe that the cache had already been compramised to a degree. When I was making my approach, I saw two high school aged kids riding their bikes past the cache sight, so I have no doubt they had to have at least seen something on the ground, so I figured it was best for now to keep the container in the hands of a cacher until the safe placement can be guaranteed.
Conversly, I could have just lied, posted a found it note, saying TFTC TNLN SL, then let the next cacher log a DNF.

I believe the other thread is in reference to this incident. I didn’t see that until after I had posted this one. I realize now that I shouldn’t have removed the container, just left it there for the cache owner to do with what he thought was best..

10/25/2009 at 3:21 am in reply to: If you could create your ultimate cache, what would it be? #1915670I’ve had this idea in the back of my head for awhile called Wild Goose Chase. The idea is to have a multi that takes you great distances with the final being in a location closer to the first waypoint than you might think. I’m not quite sure how I would do this, but I think it could be done in Green Bay.

Personally, I’ve only posted a NM log once, and that was because I knew the cache was gone. It was one I had found before, and I was making a return trip to drop a Geocoin. I went directly to the final – nope, gone. I went to WP1 – nope, gone. So I just went back home to double check the online logs, and saw nothing by the owner, who at that point actually hadn’t logged in for several days and I hit the NM option.

Oh NO! You aren’t really a hodag and you used the name… fooled us, we were sure you grew up in Rhinelander… just a visitor… now we know.
TEI’m sure it was the fact that I also made it a point to find the three caches that were active in Rhinelander’s Hodag Park when I was there back in July.

I have been using my online name since about 2000 when I signed up for my first e-mail address. I have been using the following cut and paste explanation since about the same time:
Explaining The Name:
I use the name Happy Hodag! because The Hodag Country Festival is an annual event in Rhinelander, Wisconsin! Every year, when you go, you can usually find people saying “Happy Hodag!” to each other!

If the coin is not small enough for the first one gotta run mentioned, you can always go to the back side of the hospitals and drop it in GC1MK0Y

Right now I have three caches out – two in Green Bay and one in Lakewood. Right now, that’s about what I can handle. I’m sure I could put more out there, but I really don’t want to place another cache just to put one out. I like to have caches that are difficult to find, but when you find them will leave you saying, “How did I miss that?” I’m hoping to find several more locations like this around Green Bay later this summer or next year.

That was an interesting lesson I just learned on this one. I realized I wasn’t checking the “Add a waypoint to the log” box. So there’s a reason you hadn’t heard of a time limit, because there isn’t one.

Howdy Joey. Good to see ya’ over here too. If we ever have another George gathering in GB, we’ll have to get together ahead of time to find some caches.

Kinda sounds like a hobby I wouldn’t enjoy then. You know there are still letterboxes out at UWGB? Talk about permission issues, considering all the caches were yanked. Makes me want to go find them all and yank them myself.
