It’s a little bit damp out there right now in this part of the state.Ā I’m just glad it’s not that white fluffy stuff.

I think I’ll find at least one geocache today, even if it’s only an event.

This is quicker than 10 minutes for me on GSAK⦠under geocaching.com, click on get āget geocachesā. Select out what you want or donāt want, then run it. What I like about this vs geocaching.com, is that you can also select āgoogle mapā and put your center point right where you want it⦠but maybe gc.com allows this now? (been a while since Iāve done it through the website). Also, if you have puzzles you havenāt solved on a query, load all of them, filter down to puzzles, then delete the ones that you havenāt solved. A lot better than having all the puzzles loaded in, when you only have some that you have solved and want to load. In the last class we did, I discovered a way to circumvent the 3 day wait on gc.com to run āmy findsā and add them to my cache stats database in gsak. Refresh the cache data in the database in gsak that you used to do your cache run with after you send you publish your caches from your gps to gsak, select the found caches (mine are the yellow ones), then under ādatabaseā, move those caches to your cache stats database. No more needing to do a my finds pq!
I guess I see your point there about filtering out by cache type.Ā It’s just as easy, but not any easier than doing it right on the Pocket Query page.Ā I’ll just continue to do the Pocket Query thing and filter everything there instead of creating the Pocket Query then filtering things out.Ā Think of it as a one stop shop.

The argument from popularity, ie “everyone’s doing it”, really isn’t a selling point to me.Ā As discussed earlier in this thread, I think a couple of arguments are complete garbage.Ā I was looking for something that GSAK is actually better at than simply going on the GC website.Ā For me, that had to come from the Pod Cacher podcast, and not from here.Ā If you’re wondering what arguments are complete garbage, that would be needing GSAK to correct coords for you and also filtering out cache types.Ā Correcting coords on puzzles and multis has been available since at least 2008 when I first started, and for all other cache types since last October.Ā Filtering out by cache type/found caches/etc is actually easier on the Pocket Query page.Ā You simply take about 10 seconds to select the criteria you want to see and all others are automatically off your query.Ā Pretty simple, eh?Ā It’s a whole lot faster than going through GSAK and checking off the caches one by one and then deleting them from the list.Ā I timed myself one day, and it took me over 10 minutes to remove a bunch of puzzles from that list.Ā At least I stopped counting at 10 minutes.Ā The one thing I had to hear from Pod Cacher to find out about was logging of caches.Ā Of course, it’s easy as pie to log a handful of caches right on the website if that’s all you’re doing.Ā But if you’re doing a power trail, you’re more likely better off using GSAK to do that.Ā And you can get up and do other things if you have to without having to stop logging for that time.

It will all be gone by the end of the weekend, one can only hope. Maybe in time for my event on Tuesday in Green Bay. -The Happy Hodag!
Will there be new caches published? Door prizes for attendees?
Isn’t it enough that they get to hang out with me?Ā Okay, fine, the snow will be gone.Ā I think I went through all my cache containers trying to make you happy for the Solstice event and you go for them a good two weeks before.Ā I guess that will teach me how to work with the reviewers the next time I do something along those lines.Ā I can’t guarantee anything new unless the shop owner next door get his back end in gear to put together that cache he’s been talking about for the past year to put by his front door.Ā I won’t mention his name here, but his initials are Frizz.Ā I’ll also claim post number 13 for this page.
