I had not had internet (satellite) connection since last week.. sorry to any that emailed and didn’t get the camp lon/lat.. I think only Honeybunnies were waiting around for them but did find the campfire on Saturday night.

Thank you again Coastiegirl04 for bringing all together .. I have such great memories of this past weekend!!

My parents (yes my parents my dad wants to tag along on the hike and if its OK by Lil otter to have a camper there??)

I have a paved parking area for your camper to park on.. even electric hook up (smiles).. no tent campers so far.. room for you Jeremy if you’d like the floor (just teasin’) and save on the hotel room by staying here..

And I’m so glad it’s starting at 9am on Saturday at the Gauntlet.. I’m not a morning person but suggested 8am before because I thought that stating a later time sounded whimpy (grins) Thanks Jeremy!

(hobbling around).. I sure hope my sprained ankle is better come July 22nd about 8am .. (smiles).. that’s the correct time we are meeting up at the Gauntlet, right???

(I saw others suggesting a new forum topic to start to make it easier to find the date and time.. I couldn’t find a new one so answered here)

Also, for those wishing to camp here around my firepit can you email me (hopefully my spam blocker didn’t block any) I’ll give out my lon/lat in emails to those camping or wishing to hang out around the campfire..
LorrieUSA at aol dot com Use “Gauntlet – camping” as the email subject so I can spot it easily (if your email was left unanswered.. please let me know here and I’ll contact you)

And I think it would be a good idea to post a ‘note’ on the Gauntlet page letting others know about the gathering for the 22nd.. that way those fearful of trying it alone might reconsider and attempt it with us on the 22nd. I’d have done it but there was no set time decided and didn’t wish to confuse anyone..

Well.. you can thank everyone who’s helped me keep my caches alive.. everyday people ask me when I’m getting back into the sport.. the sad thing is.. “I never left it”.. just because I can’t jump into my car on a whim.. travel weeks at a time adventuring.. or take care of my caches doesn’t mean I don’t yet love each of my ‘spots’ like one of my children.. I’m like a worried mother with one of her babies with a “wet” diaper.. I feel guilty as “heck” because I can’t dash here or there to ‘change’ them.. I am so grateful to those that have helped me.. and I try to repay as I can.. i.e. was down in the Dells on a Home Depot run prior to my reroofing the house (Mother’s Day) and tried to help a few of EchoRangers caches out..

I spend more time now answering the hundreds of emails I receive weekly.. as well as working with Rangers and promoting the sport.. if it wasn’t for their helps and allowing geocaching.. we’d only have drive ups or mini parks and we’d be missing out why State parks/lands were created.. they are created around some of the best AREAS in Wisconsin.. those special spots are where most geocaching “Memories” happen..

What does it take to carry a bit of adding machine tape, duct tape and a few baggies in your pocket.. or have a few micros on hand to snug in temp to save a geocache? It’s not the “log” that geocache placers wished you to find.. but to experience the Area. I keep telling those that help me out.. that I’d rather there were two containers there, if others think it’s missing (til I could get there to find/fix it) than to have the memory of the adventure RUINED cus they couldn’t find a goofy container.. sometimes my hiding techique was a bit too tough for new players.. so I’d rather it be replaced by someone helping it out than to see anyone’s adventure tainted..

This is a very quiet area on the lake. The sites are very far apart.

If you wait until after Memorial Day weekend.. Buckhorn will have about 5 new caches.. two night-time ones as well as all geocaches focusing on the historical of the park.. I’ve been working with Manager Joe (Buckhorn’s and Roche-A-Cri State Park) and he wished me to create caches in Buckhorn.

The night time caches will also be available to those that don’t have a gps.. this way those that camp here in the park will have an adventure to do after dusk.

I have room around my campfire for 10 or so tents.. also if any wish to bring campers I’m on a road that would allow you to park alongside the roadway without causing any troubles.. Also my garage is big enough to hold us all if the weather turns ugly. My bf Bill cut down a few trees here too so that there’s enough wood for the campfire.. McD’s is a few miles away as well as stores etc.. bathroom is here (there’s also a laundrymat in town for those that want showers) and all that’s needed is to put up with me/Bill around the campfire (grins) and listening to my constant chatter.. I LOVE company.. so don’t even think that I’d be put out.. so feel free to camp Fri-Sat nites and use this as ‘home-base’ while you geocache in the area for the weekend..

After this last weekend of reroofing my roof over Mother’s Day weekend.. the few neighbors I have thinks I’m crazy doing it in the rain.. 20% chance of rain turned into more like 80-90%.. but it was a blast doing it with my family and made alot of memories…

I’m sure we’ll make some cool memories on the weekend of July 22nd (smiles)

I was the solo Adams Co geocacher since 2002.. til you showed up .. there’s not many in the Rapids either.. as for the Dells.. there’s a few of my caches then Echorangers put in some micros.. so no real “locals” there either..

I use WGA as my club (smiles)and I doubt that you’d want to just see “me” every other Thursday (chuckles).. we’re a good group here and I think that gas prices would kill any scheduled type club.. why not just make an event and get some social time in that way.

    Hope this helps..

I just had a CITO event (GCV78R) with no temp hides and had quite a turn out for my rural area.. no one gripped about not having temp hides to find.. and those that worry about getting caches could hunt the normal caches that are in the area and the drive to and from the event.

Also, I’m planning a hike/CITO thing for my 4th year Annv. at “Lone Rock” on the 28th.. I didn’t deem it necessary to make a new cache CITO event page or to lure others there with temp hides.. the cache location alone is the “bonus” and cleaning while walking with geo-friends for 5.5 miles means more to me than logging 20+ smilies..

We mentor through our actions.. and if Wisconsin’s temp event hide logs causes strife why paint our state a dark ‘grey’. Our state now has enough geocaches that any location would offer up many already posted/approved geocaches for those wishing to go to events to gain more insite about the area through finding caches.

I went to a Chicago event years ago that was only counted as “one find” but the approver had just approved about 20 “area” (within 15 miles of the event) hides within days of the event so it really was fun to see all the locations that geocachers were hoping to point out.. plus with those being ‘normal’ hides gives others unable to attend the event a chance to adventure there as well. To me, it just seemed a great way to coord the event with the release of new GC#####’s that show off the area for the visitors.

The last campout (year ago) I dragged my boyfriend through the night hunts.. had a blast but I’d not mind doing it just for kicks…

Our state parks work so well with us now that making a few normal caches within the park prior to WGA events might be the way to go.. so what if there are only a few to find. But others after the event then would enjoy the same location that the hiders wished to show off.

I remember when I was in charge of the temp hides at Devil’s Lake… the rest of the board thought me daffy (smiles) because of my excitement and odd thinking that “they” won’t come without geocaches massed in the area… there are now plenty of geocaches in most areas of our state that temp hides won’t be missed as much.. would love to see more social events without the ‘lure’ of massing ‘smilies’.. The trip there and back could gain enough finds for those wishing to add to their find totals.

Back years ago when geocaches were far and few between.. temp event caches made sense to me… but perhaps with gas prices on the ups.. people coming to events really want to come to enjoy the social or to clean a park etc as their way of giving back to the sport.

    Just my thoughts..

Add me to the list (smiles).. for those that wish ‘free’ tent camping sites for that weekend I can offer up my fire ring… it’ll be about 20 miles north of the first Gauntlet waypoint (near the Lone Rock cache)so if interested… email me through geocaching.com also don’t forget to fill up your waypoints of the surrounding area..

I’m also going to be celebrating my 4 years in the sport at Lone Rock this May 28th so if free come hike with us.. GC5E52 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=098dc521-dc4e-44fe-ba08-287b5e0ab9aa

I think there’s only you and I as geocachers in Adams Co area (smiles)

Are you starting up a geocaching ‘club’ in this area or just trying to find others to adventure with?

    confession??

    Eeks.. I have one (blush)..

When in my first year of geocaching.. most thought a single female out in the woods at night was very odd.. so when I tripped over a Park Ranger at about midnight… I told him I ran out of gas and had to use the park’s bathroom (grins)… he WAS so sweet that he actually got me gas and drove me to my van… after all that I decided to fess up and tell him the truth.. that I was in his park after hours but had a yearly pass..(blush) he just laughed but after that I never lied again about why I was out and about.. (night hunting was a very safe sport for me … most ‘no-gooders’ were either asleep or at bars and not on trails..) and every police officer I met up with at night always thought the same.. yet a bit surprised that I wasn’t one of the “drunks” out on the roads.. just someone enjoying the area without all the hustle and bustle of normal traffic.

    — added: only a few places that I KNEW not to night hunt in alone… NORTHERN woods of Wisconsin.. and down in Florida.. all those cute glowing eyes were black widows (grins)
