Regionalizing..
Actually any cache within the state can be nominated for cache of the month by any member of the WGA.. but those that are in the northern region really do not get alot of visitors… so they might not win.. but it’s still fun to see all the different caches that others enjoy each month.. I always try to make a point of checking right at the end of the month to see the list of nominated caches.

(chuckles) so that’s why you didn’t answer the phone (grins).. Here I was thinking I was having the fairy tale at sidnaw’s cache.. but you actually had cows trying to jump over the moon (smiles)

What I’ve been doing every weekend (grins) I enjoy working on my home.. still in the drywalling stage.. next the mudding/taping.. yet a bit of plumbing to glue.. then I can do the fun painting.. and woodwork stuff .. and I have amazing wall paper that will tie the whole area together.. so far of the 5 rooms in the lower level.. two are almost done.. I then plan on using all the extra pieces of drywall to finish off my 24×36′ garage.. I have a cool wood/tool shop.. so with all my extra wood from my home.. I’ll get creative and build another shed (grins).. oh.. were you talking about “play”?? I’d be kayaking or traveling like I already do.. I also quilt.. stamp collect and enjoy landscaping..

I always stop when it isn’t fun anymore.. I live by that rule and only geocache when I want to.. not because I have to.. I can go months without geocaching.. I know.. surprising isn’t it? (grins) and I can walk away from caches that frustrate the heck out of me.. and actually sleep that night without being kept awake by the lil geo-nightmare of “WHERE WAS IT?” (grins) I don’t even have searches delivered to my email unless I’m actually planning an outing.. And I have actually saved caches closeby (I have one that is 17 miles as the crow flies) for a special day.. like I did for another that was 5 miles away last year.. saved it for July 4th.. I can go for a month or two geocaching before I get homesick.. but at anytime I allow myself to say “it’s not fun right now” and I just head home.
Hopefully I don’t sound jaded because of my other postings.. but I’m still totally excited about geocaching.

OK, I’ve finally been sucked into this thread. I’m not attacking Lorrie here, but I think her statement illustrates the difficulty in sorting out caches. Life isn’t always sunshine and puppy dogs. If you really didnt like a cache, or even saw something “illegal” about it, why print a bunch of B.S. about how great it was? If you loved the cache say so. If you didn’t like it, don’t say you did.
I am so glad you understood my plight.. I have never been a one to duplicate my logs with just cut/paste words like TFTH, SL, LNTN, Found cache etc.. but having this last out of state geo-vacation ‘wake’ me up .. taught me that reading the cache page/logs just doesn’t work as to really being able to understand where the cacher is taking you.
I used to hunt as Team Kilroy does.. except I’d only ignore locationless caches in an area.. travel blind to the spot and enjoy the ‘discovery’ of where they wished to show off/take me to. I’d naturally first check if its been found recently/what type of container/cache page etc.. but didn’t wish to read logs because many would say “too” much and give secrets/surprises away.. I resorted to the logs etc if/when I hit a problem on discovering the cache hide spot.
I really don’t know the answers.. I don’t frost over my logs..or make sock puppets..etc.. I just got woke up to what geocaching is morphing into in some areas (that it’s not the ‘location’ highlighted.. but the only reason a cache is placed there is to hunt it down) and I had a heck of a time logging my finds .. but I did learn that ‘short’ logs do work and had to resort to cut/paste.. but I’d have rather had the option of not even having those types within my .gpx .loc files and just traveling through like a ‘tourist’ to see all the goofy stuff / statues /cool buildings / memorials / historicals etc within a new city while still enjoying their parks/bike paths etc. Virtuals used to highlight these locations.. now they are all mixed up into the micro mall/parking lot etc type hides..
That’s the only frustration I am having.. Did you know that there’s a record of a few cachers getting over 150-200 caches done in one day in a city setting? Sounds like a bunch of cool places until you realize that it’s just parking lots/malls/mailboxes/guardrails etc.. I’d rather find the “guts” of the city and enjoy its flavor.. I’m not against them.. just I don’t want to do them.. just as I am not against locationless.. but I NOW have a way to not download them. I have no way of really sorting out the others.. except to try/attempt to read into what is on the cache sheet or what others put in their logs..
I think geocaching.com or each state should be figuring out a way to highlight ‘cool’ spots to show off for the general traveler..
A lot of talk going around about the loggers being able to rate a cache.. but what if they had a few buttons that just said “cool spot” “historical” “Must do” etc that the loggers could click on.. that would then be allowed in basic search/downloads?? These then would allow a way to point to caches in a positive light instead of relying upon negative or simple logs to weed out the ones that only offer the thrill of the hunt regardless of the location.
Don’t get me wrong.. I thought Walmart’s horse hide was adorable.. but after it was mimiced then morphed into any commercial parking lot up for grabs under every light post/sign/guardrail etc.. with hundreds of such hides to wade through.. all I could take back with me for my memories was.. “wow” I hope it doesn’t happen in my state.. or how can I work around those types when it happens?

Miata.. I too.. felt as you do.. that my cache placements were under attack.. I know that I’ve been privately attacked/labeled by a few and called the “Cemetery Queen” “Virtual Queen” etc.. it hurt like heck.. but I realized that the person(s) that thought such about me.. really didn’t understand my reasons behind it.. Thank goodness that most logs done on my caches have been ‘kind’ for the most part..
I’d hate to see what would happen with “HONEST LOGS” as suggested above.. how that could really tear apart the geo-community as a whole.. And I know why some had/have created “sock puppets” to post a ‘nasty’ log because they’d really show their true colors if posting under their own handles.. I’d rather have a way (a better way than just reading hundreds of logs) to actually sort/download better suited caches to what “I” enjoy.. and others able to sort what suits them.
I am not into caches that have no reason for me being there except to just hunt down the cache container..(some containers do just ‘seed’ an area for counts) these have sprung up in Urban areas because of the lack of ‘traditional’ hiding areas/locations.. others do enjoy those types of hides..
It would make so much sense for geocaching.com to actually have a few ‘history/special interest’ ‘park/hike/scenic etc buttons to click when creating a cache page. This would give more options on tayloring .gpx downloads that actually would meet the needs of those that wish to cache in certain areas.

Why would you think that was a ‘crappy’ first cache?? I remember EVERY moment of that drive there and your land.. what was so cool about it was that YOU decided to share a bit of your world with us all.. The important thing was your excitement about why you wished a cache there.. all those memories you had and wished to share with us.. It had personality..
I’ll drive a hundred miles to see a painted rock on the side of the road that has ‘some’ memory behind it.. I am not bashing these type of hides at all.. I love them (smiles) My best memories are when others allow me a peek into their world.
As proof.. here’s my best memory log from my latest trip.. Double Rainbow Cache GCGBHF http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=0faa56ae-3d7b-4c4c-83d0-06aea0b8923e

I too enjoy the lil stops on the way that are 1/1’s .. but usually those places showed off something.. what bothers me is that geocaches mentor new players.. so that if all they ever get to see are guardrail/lightpole/parking lot mall-type hides.. they really then miss out on what our sport really is about.
It always used to be about a location.. or a special spot that someone wished to showoff to others.. I know there can be thousands of 1/1’s of these types in areas that do meet the needs of any with handicaps or younger children. So, why do we need to demean the elderly or handicapped by saying that we need these types that have nothing to offer except for Hide/Find count value? And why would we want our young children hunting by a guardrail (means it is close to traffic and unsafe) And those that just hide them in these types of locations to just seed an area for cache counts?? I know I’ve done what some have called “lame” caches.. but it was always an attempt to highlight the area.. I miss that when I travel now.. the adventure was always set on “what did they wish to show off now?” ..
And we are not talking about 30 finds per day.. but some can gather several hundred in such urban areas.. so it’s hard to wade through these and find the caches that do actually show off something of the area involved.
That is my only concern.. how to actually see something more of an area besides guardrails/malls/lightpoles etc..

I know how you must feel (smiles).. No, there are not alot of geocachers/caches hidden up in central Wisconsin. Where are you located?

It was a problem but I’m used to them now so it doesn’t bother me much.. I actually bought a case of DEET type spray on sale last fall (grins) and have several cans easily in reach.. I have ticks right in my back yard up until July.. then they aren’t a bother after that..
My first year up here was a TRIP (smiles) My daughter told me to have a small vial of rubbing alchol and drop them into it.. well with finding my first tick on my head.. I DASHED into the shower and started dumping the rubbing alchol on my hair.. until I realized I had a cigarette in my hand (faints) I never turned on the shower so fast in my life.. after that ‘stunt’ I now NEVER panic over the lil suckers again..
When I was in FL they had tiny lil ticks that actually would hurt after attaching.. I wish our ticks here would do that so they’d be quicker to locate/know about.

Awwww.. Thanks guys (smiles) I’m finally at a loss for words (grins) It was so nice to do my 3000th here in my home state.. and thank you Cachew for such a perfect spot for that memory and sharing it with me.
