I believe thats it. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the good advive. I’d hate to be a developer of cookie cutter Earthcaches.
I have a question regarding the science text on the Earthcache. If a developer has multiple Earthcaches that are similar formations such as an esker, how does one write up the text? They’re all formed the same, just the location is different. I hate to think I’d just copy and paste, but that would make it easier. I am doing the Loew Lake Esker, Mondeaux Esker and the Hemlock Esker. (and maybe any other esker I hike across) What’s the best way to address this? Thanks.
I’m sure Dolly will be agreeable on that. I plan on going back to the flowage this fall, which is not too far away. I have some unfinished dirt time on the IAT to cover in that area. One thing I need to do is come up with a series of educational tasks for the Earthcacher regarding the tunnel channel. Do you have any suggestions?
Dolly McNulty and I are also working on
Mondeaux Tunnel Channel
Mondeaux Esker
Hemlock Esker
Hemlock Erratic
Photos, coords, and placement authorization in place.I have a few I’m in the development stage now. I have coords, photos and placement authorization in place.
Devil’s Staircase – I’m working with Lostby7 – placement auth pending
Loew Lake Esker
Otten Preserve
Bear Lake Sedge Meadow
Lower Narrows
Skunk and Foster Lake
Hartman Creek Erratic
Mecan Spring
John Muir County Park – placement auth pendingIt sounds like we’d work well together then.
I am very enthused about this program. I’m up to level three already. I have several in the development stage right now. All the field work has been done, Coords, photos, tasks & approvals. Because I work two full time jobs Monday thru Friday, it’s only the weekends I have to do the educational written report end of it. My New Years resolution was to get more trail time under my belt. I want to finish the entire Ice Age Trail by July 7 next year (when I’m 50) I’v hiked more than half the trail to date. So staying in the house while the weather is nice is difficult. Gary I’d sure like to sit down with you sometime over a beverage and you can give me some pointers or we could co-develop some IATCC’s.
Thanks for the info. I do use the send to GPS function. So I’m deleting them that way, find by find or GC# by GC#.

To think I paid $249 just for the Etrex Legend unit in Nov 2002
I read Roadside Geology of Wisconsin. That’s where I get my information.
To this date, there are ten IATCC’s Most of them are in Southeastern WI. It’s a nice program to get Geocachers and Earth Cachers onto the Ice Age Trail. I’ve got a few potential spots in the early development stages. If anyone would like to give advice on developing an Earth cache I would greatly appreciate it.
I was at this event. We scouted out a few potential IATCC’s I’m kinda new to Earthcaching and not knowing the ins and out of developing a successful Earthcache/IATCC. This event was sponsored by the Ice Age Trail Alliance. I haven’t been very active on this forum for a long time. I’m glad I have returned. I see some helpful hints. One thing while I was up at this event. I came up with my own placement authorization form. Let me know what you think.
Dear Land Manager,
Hello, my name is Jim Johnston. I am a member of the Ice Age Trail Alliance. I am also an avid EarthCacher. http://www.earthcache.org An EarthCache is a geological site that provides an Earth science lesson. The EarthCache takes people to the site that can help explain the formation of the landscape. An EarthCache provides accurate but simple explanations of what visitors will experience at the site. The EarthCache must involve visitors undertaking some educational tasks that relate to the Earth science at the site. An EarthCache along the Ice Age Trail is known as an Ice Age Trail ColdCache (IATCC). The Ice Age Trail Alliance has developed a program as a goal to bring more visitors to the trail and promote public awareness, appreciation, and understanding of Wisconsin’s glacial landscape. Participants should not have to leave the trail, nor will they take or leave objects. We adhere to the principles of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics. The ColdCache program awards participants with certificates and patches for locating a number of land formations on the trail. If you would like to see some examples of IATCC’s you may visit this site http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?key=iatcc
I am contacting you because I am interested in developing a ColdCache site on your property that you manage along the Ice Age Trail. The land formation I would like to reference as a site is the ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬___________________ and would be part of the educational experience they will learn by visiting this site. N00 00.000 W000 00.000
As part of the EarthCache submission, permission must be granted from you the land manager. I am seeking permission from you to develop an EarthCache/ColdCache on your property. If you have any additional rules and regulations that you would like me to include, I would be happy listing them. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding this program.
Please consider allowing approval for this site. I have enclosed a ColdCache Placement Authorization Form and an S.A.S.E. for your convenience.Thank you for your time.
Jim Johnston
Ken,
Don contacted me while I was caching in Southern Kettle Moraine. Unfortunately I missed the call, but called Don back Sunday to arrange for an interview. I had a half hour interview over the phone on Monday evening. I enjoyed discussing geocaching with him and promoting the activity. Thanks for passing my name on.
